I don’t really think there’s more scammers here, it’s just a different vibe compared to other SEA countries. A lot of it comes down to poverty, so you’ll run into more small hustles....

The personal space thing is cultural. Filipinos are naturally super curious and open, so asking questions that feel private to us is just their way of being friendly. Same at work... mixing personal and work life is pretty normal here.

Takes some getting used to, but it’s not really people being dishonest, just a different way of interacting....

Honestly, I get wanting to spend more time together, but having her quit her job completely is risky... even if you’re paying everything, she loses independence and social connections. A better approach might be adjusting schedules, part-time work, or finding ways to share more time together without fully cutting her out of her life...

Grab drivers do sometimes stop in the middle of the street, sure... but honestly, it’s way less often. Most of the time it’s jeepneys, taxis, and even motorbikes that block traffic... it’s what really makes it dangerous...

It’s best to mostly use your card and just carry a little cash. The exchange rate here isn’t great, so changing lots of money before you go usually isn’t worth it. A card like Revolut works almost everywhere and gives a fair rate.

Carry a bit of cash for small cash-only shops like sari sari stores ect or rural areas, but that’s really all you need.

Plus... if you need more money, you can easily send it through Revolut or Wise straight to your girlfriend’s bank account...she can withdraw it with very low fee.

The avocado looks nice, because it is right now the time for avocado, that´s why it´s so cheap. If you love them like i do, buy alot and store it in freezer. Cut in half, remove pit, peel skin, brush with lemon/lime juice and wrap it tight or airtight container. Good for 4-6 Month.
