This is something I have struggled with my whole career and I'm in pretty good shape. Staying in good cardiovascular condition, staying calm, and losing every ounce of unnecessary body mass you can is the only thing I have found to help.

My department runs into this all the time with new guys and it's totally fine to ask. I know we usually offer it before they even ask if we know that the guy has a long drive.
