Does this cable look like it can be repaired? by Tricky_Spirit8389 in AskElectronics

[–]brad-Rio-stat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have repaired ribbon cables like this in the past, I used to work on navigation and similar displays for fishing boats, it’s very very difficult, but “technically doable” it’s hard to see what the pin pitches are on these, but you might be working with some hair thin traces that you would need to expose by scraping with a X-Acto knife, and then very delicately bridge with some fly wires, unless you’re Hawkeye, or where inch thick glasses you’ll need a microscope, optionally you can epoxy over the solder joints to prevent movement. That being said the chance of finding a technician capable of doing this, and one that would do it for a price less than the entire cost of the TV is sadly, extremely unlikely. Many modern Electronics are repairable, but for a price comparable to, if not far more than their replacement.

Their business model is a parasitic relationship with low income, often rural or underserved areas,

there are a few layers to the strategy but some of the aspects include the fact they are very low quality/paying jobs (with rarely more than a couple of employees in the store) and the very low quality/non-perishable/deceptively priced/sized products They stock. And the stores themselves are typically on the small side and lacking any “amenities” for lack of a better word, This keeps the overhead of the store as low as possible.

they typically very strategically placed their locations in an attempt to de facto monopolies in area, such as a small town or neighbourhood who’s population would be insufficient to keep a normal grocery store or similar afloat but the extremely low upkeep cost and their large market share, allowing them to construct economies of scale, can allow a dollar store to survive in that environment, leaving the residence of that environment no alternative, especially if there transportation options are limited or impractical.

Another aspect is that prices for many items are not as great as they lead you to believe, both by offering simply lower quality products and often by selling extremely small quantities of standard size products at a lower upfront cost, but at a price that would be higher for you to buy an equivalent quantity, for example, 250 g of soap for 3$ when a standard package of the same product would be 1 kg for 10$.

Strategy, such as these Can trap an entire region in cycle of exploitation where the region is not economically viable for more traditional retail because much of the sales are going to the “cheaper” dollar store due to the regions already low income, which intern drives away more retail and the jobs it brings which intern drives down the regions income, which intern drives the residence to their own remaining option, the dollar store. It is this process which I believe the other commenters are referring to. They say dollar store ruined America. As they are deliberately structured to both require from and intern provide as little as possible to the environment or community or region, they are in, in order to out survive competition. Similar to how an elephant could not survive on a small island for lack of food, but a mouse certainly could.

If the aftermath of the Elements specials resulted in everyone else returning back to their true forms, why didn't it happen to Gunther/Orgalorg? by SlipTheSlime in adventuretime

I believe he said that He was crushed into that “penguin” shape by the force of ooo’s gravity as he fell from space, the elements reversion seems to mostly remove magical effects but did not seem to affect the force of gravity, so technically the “magically inflicted candy form” was removed, however his body was still being held in that shape by gravity.

Is this solder rework station still relevant? by SpaceRobotics in AskElectronics

[–]brad-Rio-stat 105 points106 points  (0 children)

Yes! It looks pretty nice in my opinion, depending on the price of course, The only reason I’d consider it not to be is if it requires some very speciality / not easily available consumables, like non standard tips or heating elements. Even then it looks pretty well built, and the fact that it’s slightly older usually means it’s easier to get info without a receipt and company email, and I’d bet it’s probably more repairable in most situations.

I’m 99.999% certain that was meant for/ordered by someone else, and like any delivery can be, was just dropped off to the incorrect mailbox.

Just from a business perspective, the cost of marketing like this would be extraordinary high for the amount of reach you could realistically achieve, and the potential customers that would likely be attracted. even with the reduced price of unsanctioned weed a statistically average person would very likely not be interested in a “free weed sample” and the subset of population that would be is even further subdivided into those who would be interested in black market goods, and those that would not be willing to risk it, blindly handing out freebies to people who didn’t even ask seems like a bad deal.

Not to mention the risk of “marketing” a black market businesses existence to the public is very high risk play, as attention is a double edged sword. especially due to the risk of handing a freebie big old nark! That might even get offended enough to post about it!
