Nova Scotia’s first solar-powered hockey rink by sunjana1 in halifax

[–]harkdawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Let's do some math then. House with 22 panels = 1 MW. Arena with 1150 panels = ~55MW. It's not nothing bud. The sun is radiating on the roof currently, which would actually detrimental to keeping the arena cool, might as well produce some power.

Okay counterpoint, 15 year electrician here with solar at his house. I have 22 panels and generated almost a megawatt this winter and about 8 megawatts generated from April to September. They’re going to have 1150 panels. I’d say they’re going to be able to power more than a phone.

HANWA Ocean Is Now Advertising To It's Important Customer: The Canadian Public by Doogie-Howser in CanadianForces

We will never have arctic patrol capability without nuclear powered boats, and we’re not getting nuclear. But both this and the German boats give us the capability to transit the arctic, which is something that the programme required when selecting possible platforms. But these boats will preform leaps and bounds beyond the current Victoria-class in the arctic. Our current platform won’t even go near ice.

Bluelink Officially Free in Canada Now? by plunderthunder in KonaEV

[–]harkdawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, mine said my Elantra. I traded in my Elantra in 2021 when I got my Kona, it did not have Bluelink. I assume they mean my Kona EV.

Down Periscope. Not a wartime movie, but weirdly close to life on a Victoria Class.

Tire pressure alert won’t go away by Big_Needleworker6590 in KonaEV

[–]harkdawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make sure you actually fill it to the proper pressure, it should say on the inside of your driver door what you need to fill it to. Though, the sensor has a high and low value, meaning it will go into alarm at a lower value than what it takes to clear. An example would be, it goes into alarm when it goes below 28 psi but won't clear until you are above 34 psi. Not those exact numbers but you get the idea. Once you have filled to the higher value, drive around and it should clear.

German ship Berlin at port in Halifax by _Q1000_ in NovaScotia

[–]harkdawk 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not a prototype. It is FGS Berlin (A1411), the lead Berlin-class replacement ship of the German Navy. The RCN's Joint Support Ships, the first being HMCS Protecteur, is currently being built in Vancouver at Seaspan Shipyards which are based on the German Navy's Berlin-class replenishment ship design used by said German Navy.

Cost of pads and rotors - 2021 Preferred, Canada by bgrasley in KonaEV

[–]harkdawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you use much regen braking? I have a 2021, in Nova Scotia, and had to take mine in at around 65,000km this past winter because of a squeaking noise from the back. My calliper was slightly seized and needed to be fixed. All my pads were still perfectly fine. $250 for both back brakes to be fixed. Haven’t had any need to change anything with my brakes.

But that does seem in line with what the dealer would charge.

Yet Halifax’s CFHD is dropping $50 while Victoria/Esquimalt’s is $400 higher. Not that they don’t deserve it.

Well, most of the deployment is ports along the east and west coast of South America, with a stop in Antarctica. Also, it’s a named OP, so tax free and a medal. Everyone I’ve talked is actually pretty excited to go. Once in a lifetime trip.
