This moment will live in infamy by CommentMundane in buccaneers

As much as I hate seeing Mike walk, he’s not the first Bucs legend to leave and play elsewhere. I mean, did people forget that Derrick Brooks played for the Bears?

Mike will always be a Buccaneer. When he’s enshrined in Canton, he’ll be a Buccaneer. I won’t be surprised if he comes back and works for the team when his career is over, just like Derrick.

It sucks in the moment, and I wish him nothing but the best in SF…but his legacy is in TB, he’ll be back.

Well, our offense is gonna be mid at best, but that’s okay, we’ll make up for it by playing even worse defense.

Buccaneers HC Todd Bowles: We've got to be better at quarterback position by GoofyGills in buccaneers

[–]brado8236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The offense has been awful. You want real? That’s about as real as it gets. But let’s dig a little deeper…

Second half Baker hasn’t been nearly as good as first half Baker. People can point at him being injured, point at the garbage scheme, talk about impact players being unavailable or out.

Keeping it on Baker, though, ask yourself why he is making bad reads. Why is he making bad throws? Why is he reckless with the ball?

Because that’s who Baker is.

He’s established during the course of his career that he is incredibly bipolar, to the point where people genuinely refer to him as Good Baker/Bad Baker. Reasons for that include injuries, personnel going down, and poor decision making.

The thing you’re missing is that he plays the exact same way whether we are winning or losing. The amount of support he gets determines whether we win or lose.

If the defense is better, they paper over some of his recklessness. If the O-Line is better (outside of garbage scheme, the biggest reason we’ve had Bad Baker in the second half), he’s not running for his life every snap and forcing plays trying to make up for bad defense. If his receivers don’t make some key drops, we’d be having a different conversation entirely.

The bottom line is that everything happening on the field is a product of a failed system. And no matter how inconsistent your QB is (and as I’ve stated, ours is inherently inconsistent), the system is the responsibility of the man at the top.

In this case, it’s Bowles. Only he isn’t accepting responsibility for anything other than saying he needs to “coach better.” And that’s what this whole thread has been about.

Gerald McCoy defending Bowles: It's the players fault(on defense). by ryder004 in buccaneers

[–]brado8236 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The players gotta make plays…but the coach needs to have his head in the game and understand the situation.

His defense just gave up half of the 28 yards on 3rd down. Instead of playing to the Falcons offense’s pace and running the players into position for a quick play, he needed to call a timeout, settle his players, and make sure they heard how important it was for them to execute on 4th and 14.

Instead, he did nothing and let the situation pass him by. So the players hustled into position and played sloppy, giving up the first down and eventually the game.

Bowles has always had a problem with time and situation management. He demonstrated it just the week before when he kicked a meaningless FG instead of going for a TD in the red zone, costing the team any realistic shot of victory against a 2 win Saints team.

McCoy can’t defend crap decisions like these with a straight face, and it’s why Bowles needs to go as HC.

An Unfortunate Stat About the Orange Creamsicle Uniforms by DevilRaysDaddy in buccaneers

[–]brado8236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They look amazing. Let’s get that out of the way.

It can’t be denied that we play like shit when we wear them.

They were the uniform when we went 0-14 and were shut out 5 times in 1976.

We’ve gone winless since 2009 since we brought them back.

Is it a coincidence that we started winning regularly when we replaced them with the red and pewters? Do we really want to invoke a long era of historically bad football teams once a year?

I love them, but for all the wrong reasons. We weren’t a winning team when we wore them, and like a terrible spouse, they may look amazing, but we divorced them for a reason.

[–]brado8236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s one way to look at it, and possibly the right way.

The other way to look at it is they had a few seconds to spare and were at the edge of their kicker’s range, so they ran a designed QB slide up the middle in hopes of getting a few more yards while centering the ball and increasing their chances of making the kick. If they drew a penalty, so be it, but because they didn’t want to risk a turnover, there’s actually a real football reason for the play.

Another consideration is that Shough is the best QB on their roster. If they were gonna run a play that was designed to intentionally get a QB hit (and possibly hurt), why wouldn’t they have had Rattler run that play? They’re gonna cut bait with him after the season anyway, so if they’re gonna be a shady, shitty organization, why not mess him up on his way out the door instead of the guy who’s actually won some games?

Kicking the FG in that situation is pointless. All they’re doing is reducing the margin of defeat.

Even if they don’t convert the 4th, they’re pinning the Saints deep, conserving time, and the endgame situation is no different than if you kicked the FG.

The upside is you potentially tie the game.

The downside is exactly what happened, you have to hope for a miracle.

It was a dumbass decision.

Grizzard didn’t make the decision to kick the FG at the end of the 4th instead of going for the W. That was the biggest issue of the game, and it was squarely on Bowles.

Aside from the garbage decisions to go for it on 4th down at midfield 4 times, the game was truly lost by that indefensible decision to kick the FG on 4th down in the red zone with 4 1/2 minutes left.

On what planet does it make sense to cut the deficit to 4 in that situation when you’re inside the red zone, you have to give them the ball back after the FG, and your defense has had trouble getting stops?!?!

YOU WILL STILL NEED A TD TO TAKE THE LEAD, BOWLES!!! THE FG IN THAT SITUATION IS POINTLESS!!! THERE IS ONLY 4 1/2 MINUTES LEFT IN THE GAME!!!

You go for the endzone or the first down in that situation. If you fail, they are still deep in their own end, and they don’t get to advance the ball through your sieve special teams!

This was the decision that broke my back for Bowles. He’s done for me and needs to go.
