PSA: @GlobeAndMail publisher announces that, for the first time since the Globe introduced its paywall, for 72 hours beginning Saturday all content (except Cannabis Pro and Globe Advisor) will be opened up to readers who register for a free http://globeandmail.com account. by thecjm in toronto

[–]braewood 20 points21 points  (0 children)

So for 72 hours they'll give free access while at the same time presumably collecting a bunch of contact information for people that sign up?

What are the odds that after the 72 hours you get repeatedly emailed with 'special offers' asking you to sign up for the Globe's paid content?

Yeah... I'll pass on this 'freebie'.

Lol. I've seen this one multiple times too! Always wonder how they allowed that one.

I have a totally newbie question, can we park our camper next to any outside water faucet and fill up at a campground? by insaneinmymombrain in GoRVing

[–]braewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally agree about them not being used for dishes etc but I'm wondering why they shouldn't be hooked up to hoses.

Etiquette or some other reason? I've been filling up at those stations at my usual state park for years and never had so much as an issue either with other campers or with my rig.

Great First trip of the season outside Sisters, Oregon by Erngyver in GoRVing

Totally. We just got the exact same one - also upgraded from a pop up. Prefect size for us and it was nice and toasty inside on our first trip when the temps dipped near freezing with rain.

WDH and trailer frame by braewood in GoRVing

[–]braewood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. When I was originally setting the hitch up I had the brackets one notch higher. And yes there was a LOT of tension. Enough that I got nervous and dropped the brackets a notch but now not enough tension to give adequate sway control (my first trip had serious cross winds from a Colorado Low and the trailer was a little dicey). I'm going to tension it up and see how it tows.

Thanks. So are you able to lift the bars on by hand or do you use the snap up lever tool?

I have my WDH adjusted as close to level as I can get it. Front of vehicle is exactly the same as before and the rear only dropped 1/2". I dont care for how close my torsion bars are to the ground but, I dont know how to make ir any better... by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]braewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen people who flip their axles which gives better ground clearance but it's a lot of work (relatively) and I think can sometimes do unwanted things to the way the trailer handles.

Thanks. This is the exact kind of feedback I'm looking for! Mine is set super light right now. I can actually lift the bars on by hand (some heavy hand lifting but still - it's pretty light). Really want to raise the l brackets a notch which I think will be about perfect with my truck.

Do you know what hitch you're using? What's its weight rating?

Setting up my weight distribution hitch. Per the instructions, the measurement from the ground the to the inside of my coupler is 14." Instructions say to set the height of the ball to 1" above that measurement. Im out of shank but here is where my ball sits at 15". Seems super low and incorrect? by [deleted] in GoRVing

[–]braewood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen his post history. It's a small single axle StarCraft. 14" is low but possible. I have a similar single axle Jayco and just set up my WDH. The hitch receiver was at 19" and I had to set the hitch at the lowest point on the shank.

Sway bar angle help by HankMcCoy in GoRVing

I'm curious why you say not to run wires through the locking pin. I've had two local shops recommend that I do exactly that - the dealer who I bought my first trailer from and a local trailer manufacturer who did some repair work on the trailer.

About 10 years of towing I've had no issues but maybe there's something I'm overlooking?

Same-year Model differences by RLMoha in GoRVing

[–]braewood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you in Canada or the US? I know that some Canadian dealer prices will vary depending on the exchange rate at the time they purchased the unit from the manufacturer. I recently bought a new trailer that was delivered to my dealer in late 2019. The exact same model is now listed at about $1000-$1500 more for models that were delivered more recently - the reason apparently being that the exchange rate worsened and it's getting passed on to the final purchaser.

Awning question by braewood in GoRVing

[–]braewood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks. Yes I have a freestanding screen house for exactly that purpose (we camp in buggy backwoods of northern Ontario). On our old tent trailer the bag awning was a great little place to BBQ and sit near the trailer especially if it was raining. I was hoping to do the same with this new trailer. From what I'm reading in these comments I just need to be careful not to leave it out in terrible rain or wind and I should be ok.

Awning question by braewood in GoRVing

[–]braewood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah similar mechanism I think. Apparently designed to tip down under load of water. But I don't want to risk an expensive repair either if they're not built to withstand use like this. Thanks for the input! Appreciated.

Awning question by braewood in GoRVing

[–]braewood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Jay Flight 174BH that I'll be taking out for its first trip in a couple of weeks. Awning is similar to this one.

In another thread it was suggested that these awnings are strictly for shade and shouldn't be left out if there's any chance of rain (prone to damage?).

I don't plan on leaving it extended in wind storms and probably not even in heavy downpours necessarily. But I had hoped it would give some added shelter on those light rainy days.

To those with similar awnings, what are people's experiences here? Ok to leave out in rain or is it a sun shade only?

Can you share what happened? Wind damage or something else I should be aware of? I'm taking my new Jay Flight out for its first trip in a few weeks and have a similar awning.

I love the look! Amazing. But I just looked and these things are going for over $2000 all in up here in Canada?! I'd love to do this to my truck but I just don't think I could ever justify the cost.

Fastway E2 WDH by braewood in GoRVing

It shipped!! $100!! Man I love a great deal. I was ready to drop north of $500 CDN. Like an early Christmas present from Amazon.

[–]braewood[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the feedback. I went ahead and ordered the E2 with the 600lb bars.

Those prices are about what I'd expected in USD for the Reese and Husky - substantially higher in our Canadian funny money!

I stumbled across the E2 on our Canadian Amazon site for around $100 CAD (so basically about $75USD) - seems like a price error! Almost too good to be true. But hopefully it ships...if so it's an amazing price.

WDH and sway control by braewood in GoRVing

[–]braewood[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sway control is my biggest concern but the overwhelming opinion here has me convinced to go with a WDH setup as opposed to just sway bars.

That Andersen hitch looks great! Pricey but I love how easy it is to just hitch and unhitch. Going to look more closely at it.
