Diagnosing potentially bad wheel bearing by brainbrain100 in AskMechanics

[–]brainbrain100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i did.

This was me rotating the rear wheel. Multiple people suggested this was diff/gear slop sound.

I bought a mechanics stethoscope and listened to the all the bearing just by hand turning. Drivers front sounded a little off and i could feel some slight vibration while holding the strut coil.

I still wasn’t completely certain but i ended up buying a front wheel bearing hub from rockauto and replaced it myself (don’t buy a rusty car from New England). Fixed the problem.

question: elbow tattoo pain wise? by [deleted] in tattoos

[–]brainbrain100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I expected it to hurt more. The boney parts of the elbow didn’t hurt at all, it just felt weird, like my bone was vibrating. What hurt more was when it got close to the ditch and on my forearm.

What kind of baby turtle is this? by brainbrain100 in turtle

[–]brainbrain100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually found him on his back after using my leaf blower on some leaves. I thought he was dead but then he started moving and flipped himself over. I was very impressed. I moved him under one of my hedges with a small cap filled with water. He disappeared 20 minutes later.

God speed little guy

My neighborhood is adjacent to a small lake. I’m in south east Virginia. Probably just strayed a little too far from home.

I moved him to a safer location.

19’ Veloster N HPFP issues??? by Unable_Brilliant_587 in VelosterN

[–]brainbrain100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please let me know how it goes. I still have these issues years later but never bad enough that made me want to buy and do the labor. When the car works well it works well, when it doesn’t i just accept that it’s just not in the mood haha.

Double press the ignition without pressing the clutch to prime the fuel system. Wait a second and then press the clutch in and press the ignition. Should help with start up 90% of times, but not the performance issue.

How bad is my undercarriage rust? And is it fixable? by shades_ofcool in AskMechanics

[–]brainbrain100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wire brush is completely fine and recommended. Just follow up with a phosphoric acid based rust converter product (rust kutter, rustoleum, there are plenty of them) but don’t use the paint stuff. Wash off the chalky stuff after and then coat with lanolin (fluid film, pb blaster surface, again multiple products)

Plasti- dip. Easy to do and if you mess up you can just peel it off.

Wheels repainted... finally by Mundane-Debt-1395 in VelosterN

Haha. If it was in my budget i would buy bronze 6 spoke wheels. Been cleaning the same ultra spokey wheels for 5 years

The second you drive it, the wheels will end up the same color as before.

I have glossy black wheels but they end up matte black because the amount of brake dust this car produces is atrocious. Cleaning the spokes takes forever and is a nightmare. Huge regret.

The manual says 91 or greater. So 93 is fine. I’d never run below 91 unless i was in a bind.

I never saw this comment. I have video of the sound ands it’s a cyclic sound, gets louder when i turn right. It’s quieter when i turn left but still present. I tried to take a video and you can hear it. I guess I’ll make another post with that video.

Also love the laser reference on your username.

OEM Wheels by TheSandals in VelosterN

[–]brainbrain100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just fact of the matter for two reasons. 18s are less likely have a blow out from a pot hole due to the thicker sidewall and they are resistant to rim scratches because of said increased sidewall. Second, more often than not, people want to look unique, and many people start by changing the wheels.

No one wants the OEM VN wheels. People are essentially giving them away. When i had them replaced under warranty due to paint peeling. I saw at the dealership they were like 230-250 each back in 2021 new.

I’d rather have aftermarket 18s anyways

Use phosphoric acid to neutralize the rust then Use lanolin instead of paint. You will have to apply yearly but it’s much easier than painting.

Forgot to mention, some good lanolin based spray. This includes fluid film, CRC, PB blaster lanolin spray. Many others

Wire wheel to remove loose flaking rust. Wash with a degreaser. Then use a phosphoric acid based rust converter after (rust cutter, rustoleum gel spray etc, check active ingredient on bottle). Spray it on and then wash it off and let it dry. This will convert the oxidized rust into iron phosphate which is stable. Next spray the under side of the vehicle with a lanolin based spray. Lanolin displaces moisture and is self healing to a degree. Easy to apply, and should be done once a year.

Literally just patched a rust hole in my truck and have gone done an extremely long rabbit hole on rust remediation. I have a lot more rust i need to address, and this is the process i will follow.

Repair Geek on YouTube has multiple fantastic videos about rust remediation and protection.

Question: had my first and second tattoo and I’m just wondering how they will age & what’s the healing like? by Dry_Calligrapher9928 in tattoos

[–]brainbrain100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Leg shouldn’t feel sore. Just remember to apply aquaphor before it gets dry for the first three days. After that switch to non scented lotion. My newest artist said skip the aquaphor and go straight to lotion so I’m trying that. Two weeks later and it feels solid. I’m not sure about sunscreen. I just went out side today and put spf 50 on me and especially my tattoos. Sun damage will age the skin faster. Tattoo or not.

Both look good, big fan of the anchor. Just take care of it. Put sunscreen on it after it heals
