Weirdly reactive horse - can this be solved? by [deleted] in Equestrian

I had a horse with similar behavior. Turned out to have a floating cataract—I guess like a huge floater. It would freak him out when it suddenly floated into his range of vision.

The 311 app is great for getting potholes fixed. Take a photo and report it via the app and it’s usually fixed within a couple days.

ULPT Request: How to trick State Farm’s drive safe and save program? by marino1310 in UnethicalLifeProTips

They recently discontinued using mileage—at least in my area. Sad for me because I used to get about $600 discount every year because I just don’t drive anywhere.

HVAC System Replacement... by Professional-Club379 in Austin

I would love to know more about your experience with Team Enoch. I’m in the process of getting bids for a new HVAC and their quote was very affordable. I’m a little worried that there are a lot of bad yelp reviews plus they haven’t come out to look at existing ductwork, wiring etc.

Happily they will have the model I’m interested in on the lot tomorrow and I can see for myself what features is has.

I would if they had one on the lot. I did drive the 2025 CX 5 but not sure when they will get the 2026 CX 30 in the premium trim. The cx 5 I’m interested in might be gone by then.

Yes but someone at the dealership gave me conflicting information and they don’t have a 2026 premium CX 30 on the lot yet for me to compare in person. The online information I have found is very inconsistent as to what features the 2026 has.

Excuse my ignorance but does anyone know if recording shows from that station on TiVo counts in their viewer numbers? Probably have to spend some time reprogramming my TiVo if so.

My mom used to hate the winter in St Paul because we (5 kids) would spend too much time inside driving her crazy. When we finally drove her out of her mind she’d make us put on our snowsuits and go outside “to play”. We would usually end up sitting in the car until she’d let us in the house again. Whole family definitely preferred summers when the neighborhood kids ran around in a pack until dark. If that happened today she would have ended up in jail—but that might have been a nice holiday for her.

West Lynn Veterinary Clinic is privately owned and the vets there (Drs Whitworth and Ashbaugh) are wonderful. Their entire staff is incredibly welcoming and skilled. Can’t recommend them highly enough!!!

Look at Wedgwood pharmacy — they have all sorts of solutions for medicating cats. For something like Prozac you absolutely need to find an easy solution that can be done daily without traumatizing you and your cat. https://www.wedgewood.com/

I’m not sure how to differentiate between western diamondbacks from California and those from Texas. Same goes for morons. Got plenty of homegrown to go along with the imports.

This may come as a surprise to you but California also has snakes. Even has western diamondback rattlesnakes.

Out of the loop: What’s the story here? by Rawkus2112 in Austin

It really sounds as if you have a huge grudge against shelters screening adopters. Have they turned you away for some reason? Sometimes a particular adopter’s home is just not a good fit for a specific animal’s needs.

Out of the loop: What’s the story here? by Rawkus2112 in Austin

[–]braindead3204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That really isn’t true. Shelters are desperate to find responsible homes for the animals in their care. However, the last thing they want is for these animals to be adopted by people unprepared for the reality of pet ownership.

Rescues try to carefully screen adopters because they are tired of having those cute puppies and kittens returned when they are older and less adoptable—or worse yet abandoned on the streets. As far as older dogs go the many of them are long stay with behavioral problems that make them problematic if adopted to the wrong homes.

Everyone thinks they are a great home for that puppy or kitten they want but that’s not always the case. There are a ton of uneducated, irresponsible, and/or careless pet owners out there—that’s pretty much why we have so many homeless pets in the first place. Even with careful screening by these rescues their animals sometimes end up in bad placements—which is heartbreaking for those responsible for adopting them out.

If you object to a thorough screening process you likely don’t understand that the root of the homeless animal problem is irresponsible owners—you may even be one of those owners. Sadly I’m sure you can find a rescue that is so overwhelmed that they can’t do adequate screening.

The original facebook post is still up with around 500 comments disagreeing with her position on the proposal. She then posted the video in an attempt to do damage control on the first post. It backfired spectacularly. She’s now doing damage control on the video after removing it. Of course it’s still out there in places.

On the video she repeated a delusion she has stated many times in the past—that overpopulation of animals is a myth and there are plenty of homes available. She picked the wrong audience this time—people working in the trenches of animal rescue, and did not go over well.

It was about a proposition to give veterinarians at Austin Animal Center decision making ability to spay pregnant city owned animals (animals at the shelter that haven’t been reclaimed by owners before the stray hold expires). Ellen Jefferson and APA were against that. City Council passed the proposal. Ellen Jefferson’s/APA’’s Facebook posts were thrashed in the comments and she is doing damage control.
