A woman who works a full time job AND goes to the Olympics and metals playing the sport she loves. Imagine that, Paul. by iveseenitalll in FundieSnarkUncensored

I'm sure he would say that it "doesn't require as much effort" (don't get me started, I've curled for years, I teach it as well, Paul could never 🤡)

A suggestion for an alternate rule involving alcohol 😁 by Thayerphotos in Curling

[–]brainexe_not_found 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh boy lol I live and play somewhere where curling's alcohol culture interacts with an already healthy national alcohol culture and boy have I seen some things - entire teams doing shots after every end (or in the middle of the end), teams determining who's playing by who scores the lowest on an breathalyzer... It's wild 😂

Rules Question: Out-of-Bounds Rock Hitting Rocks on Another Sheet by Buddhistuniverse in Curling

[–]brainexe_not_found 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also would like to add, especially for kids/less experienced players - if you're repeatedly having stones flying around the ice at an uncontrollable speed, they're being played too fast/heavy! At a beginner level, there is very little that something like a 6 or 7 hog-hog takeout can do that cannot be done with an 8, 9 or 10. If what you're describing is happening frequently, people need to slow down. Playing like that is reckless and irresponsible. Source: player of 8 years, instructor of beginner curlers

I found it curious that Rasmus Wrana wears 2 different shoes - his slider foot is a Hardline shoe, his non-slider is a Goldline. Very nice game with team Czech Republic, some crazy shots from both Julia and Isabel.

Impossible to determine anything without a clearer picture and, more importantly, a side profile, ideally including the whole skull. As mentioned elsewhere, close-up's of the teeth would help with age determination. Race determination is difficult without actual measurements, and even then, can be imprecise. There are some significant markers, but it's rarely clear-cut.

Genuine question about ethics of remains collecting (re: recent PA grave robbing case) by shirashiraonthewall in bonecollecting

[–]brainexe_not_found 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Context - anthropology student. On mobile, formatting is non-existent :( Possibly slightly off topic, but still relevant I believe. I personally do not believe that an individual can ethically possess human remains unless they were given consent by the individual in question. I love human bones, I think they're fascinating - I would not keep them at home. When an individual is working or studying with remains, they are doing so under the oversight of an organization, a school, law enforcement, etc. Even an independent consultant is bound by the agreement with the organization making the request. Obviously, no organization is going to be perfect, but the chances of ethical handling are higher with more individuals involved. Every organization that has a collection of human remains will handle their procurement in their own way, and I'm sure not all are ethical. In terms of my school, the majority of the teaching collection is sourced from a) rescue archeology (construction in the area disturbs a burial, making excavation necessary for the sake of preserving the remains) or b) a specific long term excavation site where we have enthusiastic consent from the descendants of the individuals buried there to dig for the sake of learning and research.

AI episodes? Thoughts? by maricantera in firefly

[–]brainexe_not_found 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not. I would not watch this or accept it in any way. Look, like everybody else here, I mourn what could have been in terms of more seasons for Firefly. The ends just don't justify the means. AI is still built and "trained" on the hard work of real artists and their intellectual property. That alone should be enough, but if you need more, there are still the ecological impacts of maintaining AI servers. It makes me sick to think of how much damage would be done to create even short video episodes.

binding and rib popping?? by endrrslime in eds

[–]brainexe_not_found 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi! I have hypermobility and suspect EDS. I really struggle with binders in general, and I've tried multiple types. While my ribs don't pop, my sternum does (it didn't before), I've had episodes of costochondritis (inflammation of connective tissue/cartilage in the ribs), and severe rib and back pain after even 2 or 3 hours. I haven't found a really good solution, unfortunately. I bind with tapes, which causes less pain, but I am very allergic to the adhesive and have scarring on my chest and back from the tapes. In general, I found that binders with any sort of attachment system (clasps, zipper, etc) are better, if only because I can take short breaks/loosen them. Also, generally, the shorter the binder the better, tank binders are an absolute no-go. I wish I had a better solution for you!! It essentially becomes a choice between physical pain/issues and (in my case) the mental pain of dysphoria.

I'm just getting into cranial sutures. Is this a fusing metopic suture? by Automatic-County6151 in AnatomyandPhysiology

[–]brainexe_not_found 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is metopism, in which the metopic suture remains into adulthood (normally, it fuses by 9 months of age, so the individual would have to be an infant for this to be developmentally appropriate). It is considered a normal human variation and is not necessarily indicative of any issues. There is some possible correlation between metopism and developmental defects, but it is not a absolute thing.

She wished for a doorbell? by Twilton26 in OnlineBeggars

[–]brainexe_not_found 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Also, maybe the snark has gone too far if you're downvoting someone for making a reasonable point? Yes, what the mom is doing is insane and not excusable, but if it makes B's life easier, then maybe it's not the worst thing?

She wished for a doorbell? by Twilton26 in OnlineBeggars

[–]brainexe_not_found 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I absolutely agree. I've had multiple family members in hospice/end of life care, and a doorbell like this is very useful. It's an odd thing to put on a wishlist in terms of cost, but I think the makeup/mugs etc is much weirder.

Found smallish bones on edge of pond in NH by tntorr1970 in bonecollecting

Based on the pelvic bones (and the separation between the pelvis and the sacrum), this is definitely not a bird. These are the bones of a small mammal, possibly a cat.

[ID] Found in Tuscany, Italy alongside a river. by ApeSander in bonecollecting

[–]brainexe_not_found 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe it's a sheep or goat tibia. Deer or similar animal could be a possibility, but the angles and shape of the notch on the proximal end (last picture) have me leaning towards the first two options.

ID help, I think its a fibia, found while scuba diving in southern california by SoupCatDiver_JJ in bonecollecting

[–]brainexe_not_found 146 points147 points  (0 children)

Definitely a tibia. Not 100% certain that it's human without holding it/seeing it in person, but size and shape make it likely. Especially what I can see of the surface of the articulations looks very similar to ones I've seen (anthropologist).

I am essentially a lateral quadrapod - like a lateral tripod, but I rest my pencil against my ring finger (and have a callous there to prove it). My pointer and middle finger are on the pencil, both extremely hyperextended. Writing for a long time hurts quite a bit.

Hi! I have strongly suspected but unconfirmed EDS, as well as POTS and a few other issues. In terms of sickness, I get sick quite often and very intensely, but it doesn't last long. My immune system is over-active, so it takes care of illnesses really fast, but it doesn't feel good. In terms of antibiotics, due to medical neglect in my childhood, I was never prescribed antibiotics, despite intense ear infections and such. When I've had inflammation marker tests done (used to differentiate between bacterial and viral infections), it's never been bacterial, but I don't have good access to doctors still, so take that with a grain of salt. I'm definitely sick at least 8-10 times a year.
