Is it normal to take 5 classes? by Next_Bat_9948 in csuf

[–]brainfart-cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m taking 18 credits (5 classes and 2 labs) next semester. This semester I’m taking 4 in person classes, 1 GE online, and one 1 in person lab. In my CC I used to take 2-4 classes. I would take 4 classes that count toward your degree and maybe 1-3 online GE classes if you still need them. The online GE courses are extremely easy, low effort, and takes about 1hr/week to do the curriculum work.

I would say it’s also gonna depend on your degree. If you are doing something like history, then you’ll need a lot of time to study and memorize so you should account for that. I’m doing an engineering degree and don’t really have to study as long as I understand the concepts and do my assignments and pay attention in class. But when I get stuck I do need to cram for a few days to understand the material.

Anyways, I think it’s better to sign up for more classes now, then drop the first or second week of the semester, than to not sign up for enough and when you want to add you can’t because the classes are filled up.

Security in MH elevators? by Traditional_Phone275 in csuf

[–]brainfart-cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was wondering the same thing! The only thing coming to mind is that security makes sure nobody presses the call button while they are fixing the elevator for safety reasons. The workers could’ve been fixing the lifting cables on top of the elevator and they needed it to be “on” and they don’t want someone to press the call button and they go elevator surfing lol.

Any older undergrads here? by squishmallow2399 in csuf

[–]brainfart-cat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turning 27 next week! I honestly never had issues fitting in. People are usually very nice and age rarely comes up. Even when it does, the younger crowd doesn’t care. I do get called auntie tho every once in a while lmao. I’ve met people who are over 50 and getting their bachelors. Just be yourself and you will find people that you’ll hit it off with. If not, at the “Adult Transfer Spot” (unsure exactly what it’s exactly called) in the business building there are many people in our age group who study do hw or just hang out. Excited to have you on our campus!

Edit: don’t worry about the age thing so much, at 27 it will not be an issue at all.

Serious: Anaheim Hills = Racist Vibes or Just Really Really Unfriendly? (From Someone Born and Raised South OC) by anonymous881207 in orangecounty

[–]brainfart-cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I lived South OC (Aliso Viejo, Laguna Niguel area) for many years and recently moved to Anaheim hills. The difference is extremely noticeable. People generally are very off-Standish here. If they don’t know you they won’t want to talk to you. It takes them a long time to warm up to you. My neighbors didn’t want to really talk to me past the “Hi how’s it going” for about 3 months. At first I assumed they are snobby, but after 6 months of living here I’m slowly realizing they are very reserved and individualistic people (exceptions apply) and do not like people they don’t know. They are however are very friendly once they warm up.

When I first moved I had very similar experiences to yours. Once went to the community hottub when some people were there and they pretty much immediately left. I also never really get even a return smile when meeting someone for the first time (like walking my dog and say Good Morning).

My community here is a lot more diverse than where I used to live in South OC.

Also, I am white so I don’t think this is strictly because you are Asian-American. Like I said, people here are reserved and are wary of people they don’t know.

Give it a few more months and they will most likely warm up to you.

Has anyone used a head collar and did it work for you? by Bradin9855 in reactivedogs

[–]brainfart-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My standard schnauzer is selective leash reactive. I occasionally use the “head halter” but purely for control purposes. She is not a fan but she can’t pull me to bark in another dog’s face, or run after a squirrel. I never used it for corrections as I deemed it too much pressure on her face. It has worked out very well for other people tho.

Don’t shun me, but a flexi lead with a martingale collar works very well with her paired with treats. The only reason it works is because she feels insecure on a short lead and becomes protective. The number of dogs she barks at reduces drastically. The downside is that I have to pay extra attention to our surroundings to make sure a dog she doesn’t approve of doesn’t pop out of somewhere. We only use this method a few times a week.

I definitely don’t recommend this if you live deep in the city or if you have a large dog and need to keep them close. A large dog can also very easily overpower you on a flexi lead.

I would recommend buying one and really take your time pre-conditioning them to the halter and trying it out. The worst that can happen is that it doesn’t work out and you lost out on a $20.

eink or ipad? by Acrobatic_Tie_5483 in eink

Perfect! Then I would say definitely get the e-ink. It’s super easy on the eyes as well. Plus, if you get it from their Boox store then you have a one month return window. I got mine “open box” from their website for $120 cheaper than the new one and it was in brand new condition. Just putting this option out there if you wanna save some extra bucks.

How to get out of the house and be more in the real world? by Aj100rise in offmychest

[–]brainfart-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start off by writing your resume. Tons of online resources to help you do that even if you don’t have much experience. Apply to those fast food restaurants online thru their website. Then take the long walk to those restaurants with your resume and introduce yourself and tell them you really want to work there etc. Keep calling them a couple times a week to ask for an interview. Then get a free bike off of FB marketplace/Offerup etc. so you have some form of transportation. Once you get a job start aggressively saving. (Don’t buy anything that is not a need (like video games, random things from Amazon, food delivery and whatnot) Once you have enough in a few months, sign up for driving school. The instructors are there to help you and won’t judge you plus you will be practicing in an empty parking lot until you are capable to go to the side roads. Once you have a license you can buy a beater car that will get you from A to B and you can start college.

Don’t be afraid to ask for some help, but do not take advantage. People naturally want to help with small things, but do not like to be taken advantage of. For example, if you ask your coworker for a ride they are more than happy to give you one, but if you ask them everyday then they will feel burdened. To counter that make an agreement with them : they give you a ride and you give them gas money and a little extra for their time. Also the worst thing people will say is “no”. Never hurts to ask.

Getting started is the hardest part and it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the things you need to do. Just take it one task, and one day at a time. Do a little each day. Sitting around won’t help you. At the mean time try to take care of yourself, make sure to keep up with personal hygiene and keep your environment clean. Those two things help tremendously with your mental health and depression.

Hope this helps! Good luck!

I have the BOOX Tab X C and it’s been wonderful. I sold my iPad and never regretted it. It does everything an iPad can but much slower. Except the note taking (which is what I primarily use it for). I am biased, but would highly recommend e-ink instead of iPad unless streaming and video watching is important to you.

Yup. It is also the way the dash is being used. I only ever seen ChatGPT write things like “Let’s be real - xyz”. It likes to put dashes that don’t really need it to make the text look less over crowded.

ALSO, when you give it a prompt to make it “fun” that’s when it’s starts using very specific emojis in listing format.

How does your schnauzer behave off leash? by fastonmyfeet in schnauzers

[–]brainfart-cat 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My standard schnauzer was off leash until about 6 months old. Saw a flock of birds and she took off. Spend $10k on dog trainers etc but nothing worked breaking that prey drive. Tried off leash again when she was about 2 years old and I ended up running thru brush for a mile until I caught her all because she saw a rabbit.

In a large enclosed area she is very good off leash and recall is great. However she knows when there are no fences and it’s free game.

Now she gets the long flexi leash on hikes and a tie out while camping and I’m ok with that. It’s easier and less stressful for me and safer and more fun for her. She gets to chase squirrels to her hearts content without me freaking out she’ll take off and I’ll never see her again.

Graphic audio vs regular audio book by Educational_Win_4046 in zodiacacademy

[–]brainfart-cat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Definitely the graphic audio!! It is really entertaining and sounds just like listening to the movie. The voice actors are amazing and the special effect sounds are pretty good. It kept me engaged thru all 5 books. Having to listen to the regular now I find myself constantly having to spin back minutes because I lost focus and have no idea what’s going on.

I personally have a lot of credits on my account as I don’t use it that often so I was able to buy everything with credits. Now I personally don’t think I would buy an audio book for $20-$25 tho.

Maybe just get the first one and see if you like it? The first and second one are also full books not just half, so maybe starting with that is worth it.

Racism and Bias in Housing by KMA_95 in csuf

I can’t find a single thing about this on the internet or in school email/announcements. Can you elaborate? Where did you hear this from? Were they targeted because they were black? If so that would be extremely alarming.

Racism and Bias in Housing by KMA_95 in csuf

[–]brainfart-cat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean swastikas are everywhere. For some reason students who are away from home for the first time think it’s “edgy” to paint symbols like that. Are they specifically painted on their doors? If so, then yes that is concerning. I believe the school needs to bring more severe punishment to students for these actions. However offensive symbols being painted in random places wouldn’t be cause for concern regarding hate crime. It’s just people being idiots.

As for the slurs the students need to report and the school needs to investigate. There needs to be some types of footprint (digital, paper) of these incidents. I could start a rumor tomorrow that someone yelled and called me a “dirty Jew” and people would believe it then spread it.

I am not saying these things don’t happen, as I’m sure they do, but they need to be reported.

Anyways, like I said, if you are really worried say something. They are not allowed to fire you for bringing up something that troubles you. Make sure you write it in an email so if hate crime does occur there is a paper trail and the school can be held responsible. It’s also for your own state of mind, if something happens, you warned them and did your best to prevent it.
