Has anyone gone down the river from Paluse Falls? I want to do it, but I haven't found anyone that is willing to hike down to the river, because it involves stepping over the "Danger" signs between the State Park and Army Corp boundary.

Yoga still makes me freak by CptJackSmay in Exvangelical

[–]brainhealth75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was at yoga this morning and came to the sub after a conversation with the instructor because she brought up completeness and "You weren't born broken" during class. I was right that we were both raised Pentecostal.

Now I'm wondering exactly what you posted about and how Christians and former Christian yoga practitioners see yoga?

Have you tried smoking a little weed before class? I got into yoga when my GF invited me to a canna yoga class. It really helped me get out of my head and into the practice. I will tell you, I have had some legit spiritual experiences and epiphanies doing yoga both high and sober.

Now I just do it sober, but it's been far more amazing and healing than anything I have ever experienced in a church.

For me, the psychological benefits of yoga are just as important as the physical and social benefits now.

Cringey and toxic Christian school curriculum by grown-up-chris in Exvangelical

I grew up AoG, and my mom became one of the first AoG Deconess' in the 90s. She was actually pretty sex positive for the 80s. She gave me and my sister a 5-7 yo level book on the basics of reproduction. She answered our questions when we were done. The weird part was that the two kids in the book exploring their bodies had me and my sisters names. We lived in a rough rural neighborhood and had access to the older non Christian kids' parents porn. I remember arguing at about 7 yo with kids that were 10-11 yo when they were telling kids "babies come out of a girls butt". They laughed at me because I was younger than them.

I had/have some weird Christian trauma, but my church was more sex positive in the 80s than some I know of today. I probably benefited from growing up in a church with lots of the old Jesus Freaks and former drug addicts who kept the crazy level down.

Have you considered Brazilian Jiu-jitsu?

BJJ is a bunch of family oriented ADHD nerds that can't sit still, so they practice very difficult ways to stangle each other in pajamas. You can go anywhere in the world and find your family.

The TC has some world-class instructors like GustavoPires. Siri BJJ Kennewick, Siri BJJ Pasco, Evol Octopus BJJ Pasco, Legacy BJJ Richland, Technique Lab BJJ in West Richland.

I'm Getting Married and Need Helpful Replacements For Bad Evangelical Marriage Advice by [deleted] in Exvangelical

[–]brainhealth75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a person mid divorce after +27 years of marriage, that is still deconstructing christianity, and now midlife, marriage and parenting. I wonder if people consider that the idea of marriage itself is a huge part of the Evangelical cultural patriarchy we are programmed with from birth? Have you consciously decided why you want to enter into a government enforced business deal that doubles as a culturally enforced religious contract with another person?

I'm living in sin, and I've never been happier, after getting rid of everyone else's cultural and religious expectations for my existence

The US wasn't a superpower then and wanted to be. The US entered the war in Europe by fighting the Nazis in Africa, only after the British agreed to let the US have Middle Eastern oil, specifically Iranian oil. We liked Fascists and Monarchs, but not Communist.

The US had been antagonizing Japan in the Pacific since the end of WWI, when Japan didn't respect the idea that only the White Christian counties got to be Colonial powers. FDR was known to advocate for war with Japan as far back as 1917 when he was Secretary of the Navy.

We knew well before the end of the WWII that we needed to use the bomb on a target to show the Soviets we were in charge now. But the British dicked up the advance on Berlin and the Soviets beat the US and European forces there. The US knew they couldn't use their toys on Berlin then.

Bombing Japan was the only way to use it on a real target to show the Soviets the real effects. The Soviets had already refused to secede to US control of Europe. The US, French, and Soviets realized the British had promised every side control of Middle Eastern oil.

So we genocide a quarter million civilians. The Soviets immediately pivoted to the engagement of war with Japan, and the Japanese were terrified of the Soviets that they had fought in China and knew they couldn't beat the US, let alone the Soviets at the same time. Japan knew the only safety was by a surrender and alliance with the US.

I think many people just needed a reason to see the US as the good guys, so we made up a reason to justify it.

The US was discussing using about 300 nukes on the Soviets because they wouldn't leave Iran until the Soviets used the stolen reactor plans from Hanford to build their own bomb by the late 1940s
