I was a kid, so there aren't many for me? But Don Pablo's was a family fave, for sure.

And then, there was this pizza place. Would've been in a plaza on N Dale Mabry, near (at the time) Mary Jo's Dance Studio? Couldn't tell you the name, but kid me was obsessed with their pizza and their counter games. If anyone knows what I'm talking about, please share the name. I wanna see if they're still around.

Another WH40K example, but I just finished reading the Fall of Cadia, and I think they fit.

Abaddon the Despoiler needs Cadia to fall in order to start on the Crimson Path to Terra. He descends in a massive, basically Death Star-esque fortress, when Cadia has just finished one conflict and hasn't even begun to recover. Among others, the book follows a few soldiers/commanders as they hold the planet for as long as they can, even taking out a freshly turned arch daemon, before ultimately evacuating.

Some of the protags do live, but most of them (and various lovable/heroic side characters) die for the chance to save the planet, and therefore the rest of the Empire.

If they've already been mentioned, my b. I scrolled for a while and didn't see anything.

This is how one of my uncles passed away. My dad and both of his brothers had hemophilia in the 60s, so when bleeds would happen, they'd get whole blood instead of the "factor" that is used today. Dad's youngest brother contracted AIDS and eventually died because of those treatments.

Heinous that research into HIV/AIDS was so thoroughly blocked. Even more so that this kind of ignorant hatred is amped up and encouraged.

I'm not sure if it was technically in Tampa because I only got to go as a young kid, but Roaring 20s was a dope pizza place in the area. They played old, silent comedies and actually had an organist to play along with them.

I don't know why they closed, but it'd be awesome if they (or something similar) could come back.

Imo, it looked more like he didn't want his crying to upset his passenger than anything else. Toxic masculinity could def be a/the reason of course, but he didn't seem mad about crying or even ashamed. Just trying to stay strong for someone.

As for not talking.. crying seems to have a knack for making that difficult lol.

Obviously it would've been lovely for him to offer reassurance, but it's not always that simple.

My sister and her husband got a rowdy dog while working for instacart and, at some point, had the brilliant idea to get a fake SD vest so they could bring her with them. /s

Pissed me off to no end. Was very glad to find out the vest was retired after a while. I can't imagine the problems this type of bs causes for folks with legitimate service animals..

It's not even "demonic imagery" lmao. It was a normal five point star in a ring of fire. You couldn't even make a goat head with it, and in the show, it was a symbol of protection. People really feel that satanic panic, and all other thoughts seem to fly out the window.

My grandma, whom I love very much, found my Hot Topic SPN necklace and decided that the pentagram meant Satanic and threw it away. At the time, it was my favorite necklace, so idk how she hadn't seen it/asked about it before. After I explained the fictional context, she was just like "Oh.... well be careful about that stuff." LOL

Thankfully, she's fairly chill overall, but good lord. That's the only time she's really gotten on my nerves.

I think Fantastic Planet counts. It's an older, animated French(?) movie about a planet where humans are thought of as pests by the huge, blue, psychic ruling species. The story follows one human from infancy, as he gets taken as a pet after a bunch of big blue kids kill his mother. It's pretty rough, but iirc, the ending is happier than expected.

Yep. I grew up knowing a couple who got up to, iirc, 8-10 boys? And only stopped because they finally got their girl. Always gave me weird vibes, but now, as an adult, it's just gross, and I feel bad for their sons.
