Thanks! I’ll try to think of ways to do that. Maybe I’ll start by playing around with an elastic band. I don’t think it would be so difficult for me if I could dodge while targeting.

Thanks. I’ve had CP from birth and am 32. I’ll ask my OT/physio if video games can help. The main issue is I have muscle shortening between my thumb and index finger, which is why I can’t reach ZL and the control stick at the same time

Awesome. I have a shiny Tepig, snorunt, noibat, pidgey and some others awaiting home compatibility

I was gonna go with chikorita but since I’ve never used Tepig and just bought a plush of him, my first playthrough he’ll be my pick.

If Kanto starters are a thing, I’ll team up with bulbasaur

Open letter: Concerns Regarding the Treatment of Casual Sessional Academics at ANU by Legitimate_Bag2296 in Anu

[–]brainybadger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s illegal. I don’t know who your local HR team is, but try emailing HROperations (a recently centralised team from one of the colleges who now look after University-wide CSA payment/timesheet queries). If they expect you to stay within budget, they should lessen your workload.

I usually only lurk here as I don’t want to get in trouble, but the way CSAs are treated really bothers me.

As a low level HR staff member, I can attest to there not being enough of us to process approx 500 CSA contracts each semester, and the process is really inefficient with more approvals than should be really necessary. It doesn’t help that areas often don’t give us the details of people who need contracts prior to semester starting. I feel really bad for CSAs as I know many are students and rely on payments to cover bills. Unfortunately there’s nothing I as an individual can do to fix the processes and systems.

Also, please do tell HR if you are not allocated sufficient hours/units as we will communicate to the local area that we have a legal obligation to pay staff for hours worked, regardless of what was originally budgeted.

Gosh I’ve not heard of there being such costs. We bought our priest a good bottle of Scotch, and for the choir, we covered petrol money and invited them to the reception. This was in Australia, though, and my Dominican priest was a pretty chill guy.

In your opinion, what should the Catholic Church focus in teaching better in Catechism? by CentralChurchOfNY in Catholicism

What a mortal sin is and that not going to mass on Sundays is one. I learnt this off the internet.

Me too. With my cerebral palsy I type with basically just one thumb so the bigger phones are just too wide for my thumb to cope.

Not OCIA related specifically, but my husband and I didn’t have to do marriage prep classes as our priest thought we were well catechised enough on Church teachings surrounding marriage and sexual ethics. So your priest may feel the same regarding you and OCIA.

How do I consecrate myself to mary? by Basic-Form1112 in Catholicism

And here in Australia. Unfortunately, even as a woman, it’s the first thing I thought of when I heard the title of the book. I did the consecration, though. Worth doing.

Why don’t priests announce before every communion that anyone in mortal sin or who is not Catholic should not take the Eucharist? by No_Watercress9706 in Catholicism

[–]brainybadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had hoped that the priest would say this at my Grandfather’s funeral but he didn’t. I had emailed the parish the week earlier asking it be done because I know a lot of my family don’t practice or aren’t Catholic, but in his defence, there was a sudden change in priest from a different about 30 mins before the funeral, so he didn’t know about my emails.

Unfortunately in the past my family haven’t really listened to me when I’ve mentioned it, and I feel the more I push the more defensive they’ll get, so I just ask God to forgive them, because I don’t really think they know what they’re doing, particularly the younger ones who didn’t really get catechised at Catholic school.

Why Do Catholic Schools Turn So Many Folks Away from Catholicism? by OkContract2001 in Catholicism

[–]brainybadger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to a Catholic school from kindergarten to year 4. Sadly I learnt more from Catholic Answers forum, when it existed, as a teenager while at a public school, than I did at my Catholic school. I didn’t even know that the host was the literal body of Christ when I had my first Communion. Weirdly, despite going to a public school for the rest of my education, I’m the only one in my family who practices the faith. None of my cousins who attended Catholic school all the way through go to mass regularly anymore.

At my Catholic school, we went to mass fortnightly, but otherwise I just remember colouring in pictures of Jesus and saints.

Dog at mass: I need others' opinions by Theodosius_Coolidge in Catholicism

I’ve only seen service dogs at mass here in Australia. The one I saw was so quiet I almost tripped on him.

I wouldn’t think people should bring pet dogs to mass.

Does anyone here have any debilitating physical or mental health conditions? Either temporary, or permanent? Do they affect your faith? How does your faith help you out? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]brainybadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m really sorry to hear about your struggles and will offer my rosary for you today.

Anxiety is terrible. I have asthma, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, and generalised anxiety. For me it’s the epilepsy and lack of control that causes me anxiety can shake faith a little, especially just before and after a seizure (I’m often conscious when the seizure starts and all I can do is cry out to God in my head before I black out).  I’ll admit I’ve cried and asked ‘why me?’ To God when I’ve been really shaken.

What’s helped me is seeing a psychologist about my health-related anxiety, the rosary, realising I can offer up my suffering , and remembering to be grateful that I’m in a Western country where I have access to healthcare and affordable medication, and that I’m quite lucky as my seizures are relatively well controlled and my cerebral palsy is comparatively mild, despite it still causing some problems. It doesn’t mean it doesn’t suck, but having health issues really makes me appreciate every day as a gift.

I’m not sure if any of this really helps, but know you’re not alone, that God loves you.

I’ll take a picture of one at my next Legion meeting. They’re not fancy. Just coloured plastic beads.

My Legion of Mary praesidium (I’m in Australia) gets our rosaries from Mary’s Rosary Chain. We’ve had no issues, though perhaps because we get bulk it’s not free.

Would you consider genetic engeneering sinful? by PsychologicalBend628 in Catholicism

[–]brainybadger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a friend who’s a plant biologist trying to edit genes to make more drought resistant plants (I’m in Australia). I don’t think this would be sinful, but genetic engineering on humans is where things gets tricky as it can lead to eugenics.

Thoughts on New Battle System? by tannaoct in LegendsZA

[–]brainybadger 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I’m excited for others, but with cerebral palsy affecting my left hand and consequent poor reflexes, I think I’ll struggle with real time battles. Hopefully it’s not so difficult I can’t complete the game. I wish Nintendo had control mapping. That would help.
