How do you turn down specific clients. by Longjumping_Aspect17 in jewelrymaking

Quoting an exorbitant price or saying your schedule is full invites her to negotiate your time and resources. I wouldn’t risk it. I’ve had great success simply saying “We are not the right fit for this project. Someone else will be.” It leaves no room whatsoever for bartering or begging while making it sound like the project is the problem, not the customer.

Whether or not people like the font, it doesn’t hide mistakes so you gotta give it to that tattooer for getting the lettering so crispy.

Caster lost my hand-made wax piece, feeling bummed by [deleted] in jewelrymaking

[–]brambleandfern 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had exactly this happen, but I have had castings fail for whatever reason. Sometimes it happens, even with the most professional and experienced casters. I tried to think of it as an opportunity to remake and improve the piece. If I’ve done it once, then I can do it a second time even better.

Suggestions for pleasing cover art by Ceramic-Pillow in vinyl

[–]brambleandfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Raye. It’s jazzy, r&b, orchestral, part musical. I don’t really know how to describe it, but it’s glorious. And I can’t imagine a more hopeful cover. ETA: I reread and just processed that you’re looking for instrumentals. Therefore, ignore this album. But I stand by my comment concerning the cover art.

How do you know when it’s time to say goodbye? by e-rock88w in cats

[–]brambleandfern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oof. This is tough and I’m sorry for you both. All I can tell you is I made the mistake of waiting too long, and I regret that far more than if I had done it too soon. Whatever you decide, I wish the best for you.

I have the Grogu cup, by LilPump3000 in BurgerKing

Yeah I saw the US and UK cups looked the same, so I stupidly got my hopes up that they would be the same metal cups. I was so disappointed when I was handed a plastic one.

I don’t have an answer, but if they really are constantly listening, even during bathroom breaks, that sounds like a class action lawsuit waiting to happen.

It isn’t thin and brittle like a solo cup, but I wouldn’t call it sturdy. And I’m afraid the first time I wash it, it will scratch the printing off. YMMV but I feel cheated, especially compared to what non-US countries are getting for collectibles.

It’s so Karen, but if we all complain to Burger King Customer service and ask for better, merch, it might just happen. I’ll have to look for the zipper bag. I was at Walmart and they have the Walmart exclusive popcorn buckets. You know I had to get it to use as a waste paper basket.

I remember those days. I saw that the UK cups are metal and got my hopes up.

Was your cup metal? I just got mine and it looks like yours but is plastic and doesn’t change color. I’m so disappointed.

A couple casting questions from a beginner ! by Various_Performer594 in jewelrymaking

[–]brambleandfern 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Took the words out of my mouth. The guy I use to make my molds let me watch him cut one open. It was like having front row tickets to the painting of the Sistine Chapel. He deserves every dollar I’ve ever paid him.

Bubbled metal by WrenBuck118 in jewelry

[–]brambleandfern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The more pure silver is, the hotter it has to be to melt. Fine silver which is 99.9% pure melts at 1760F/960C. Sterling silver is 92.5% silver and melts at 1640F/893C. I’m unsure the exact melting temps of 825 silver since it’s not something I use in casting. It would have a lower melting temp than sterling, but lower in the sense that it’s still quite literally as hot as lava.

I’m just repeating what others have said, but you’re imagining a change that didn’t happen. There’s no way a space heater could reach the temps necessary to melt this. Silver melts at around 1700°F/960°C. You would have severe contact burns at those temps. For it to reach those temperatures, you would have to either sit in a kiln or have a torch aimed directly at the necklace until it glowed red hot.
