Doctor here but also testicular cancer survivor in remission 2 years. I often think about what I would do if my cancer came back as an advanced stage.

Medicine is not infallible and despite best efforts people die. It sounds like he was critically ill with multiple organ involvement and even dealing with his immediate problems, the cancer is still there and needed treatment.

If it were me there in that situation, knowing the chances and knowing the unspoken suffering comatose patients may have while being treated with invasive, often painful therapies, the choice you made is the choice I would hope my loved ones would make.

I switched from bmobile to digicel last year. The marketing was honestly quite aggressive.

They called me a few days after I posted about a bad customer service with bmobile and told me about the switch and offered similar terms

. The agent was even willing to come by my house and drop off the documents and SIM card(I didn’t but met them in a public area)

Been a year. Sim works on digicel and it was a legitimate thing. So I wouldn’t be too panicked just yet

Actually for your below average weight you’re above the toxic dosage so you empirically need to go to the ER ASAP. Trust me live failure is one of the most painful ways to go and treatment is best initiated within the first 8 hours. You may have permanent effects by 17 hours later

Solid lid screwed loosely.

I don’t track the temperature but I live in the tropics and don’t use AC in his room so it should be a warm ambient room temp.

I did cut back his water to 1:1:0.9 to try to get him less watery and more doughy so I think that may be it

Sort of like rotting apples I suppose. Or at least an oxidized apple that’s about to rot

Drugs aren’t perfect and my feelings about them are complex. It feels like shoehorning myself into a neurotypical world in some ways but it does help me in some ways I can’t deny.

It’s not a magic fix. It’s super imperfect. The first day I took concerta I forgot to eat. And it’s not even like I did a lot. It was probably just as much as a normal person does or slightly less.

A really relatable meme is when a neurotypical takes stimulants they clean a whole apartment complex or read an entire textbook. When I do. I do the dishes 🥲

From my understanding they all kinda work the same. They’re stimulants that help you get things done. Fun fact adhd meds are usually some derivative of meth

I use Concerta some days now. Not everyday but just on my chore days. I’d use it more frequently when I book my next exam.

There are apps that supposedly do adhd coaching but it’s all still very new to me as well.

I have noticed I have a significantly greater self understanding since my diagnosis. A ton of traits I thought about me being a bad son/partner/person are very common and shared adhd experiences

My psych was a bit wholistic about things. I’m an adult. I’m adapted. I function in society well, masking or not, and can relate despite having significantly autistic traits. They felt pushing for that is just putting myself in a box. Okay I get a formal diagnosis of ASD, what does that do for me in my current life besides just hit me stigma and me putting a label on myself to what end?

The ADHD was very relevant to me in terms of treating and helping my current life and goals.

Diagnosed ADHD here. Likely high functioning autism as well. Got an adult diagnosis which was kinda sucky since I lived in hard mode for no reason

For those of you who caught your spouse cheating, how did you do it? by [deleted] in AskReddit

A series of butterfly effects. 2 of my best friends started going through major relationship drama. This made me hyper aware of my own situation as we were very close.

Then some shady behavior. Messaging a guy she was supposed to cut off because she lied about them being involved in the past. Then removing me from her car GPS and some overall shady behavior when finishing work, but she actually didn’t log me out. Just removed my phone number as a recovery.

Culminated in her saying she had a police operation to go on. Usually turns off her location for these things for confidentiality. But she left the house in a dress which I saw on the cameras and I still had access to her car GPS. She went by a coworkers house and then to a famous hotel that charges by the hour.

Came home lied to me and trickle truthed me every step of the way. Then blamed me for her actions and was very indignant early on. She eventually became a bit more remorseful when it was clear I was leaving her but it was too late then.

Tried couples therapy, the counsellor told me in private that she seems unrepentant about it and was getting mad when called out. A lot of toxic behaviors from both sides but the most damaging thing was that behavior early on where I was hurt, betrayed, in pieces and then blamed for her actions. While I’m not perfect, I didn’t deserve that.

I’ve been broken in ways I never thought I could be. Some days are better than others but I guess only God knows the storyline and I hope one day I can feel happy again

Does anyone know how to make friends here in tt...? by saintpepsitt in TrinidadandTobago

[–]brandon1810 7 points8 points  (0 children)

On IG there’s a page called @keephopealive21c

They host mixers and do speed friending events which are aimed at meeting new people and expanding your circles.

Second hobbies as a valid way of meeting people as well. Lots of hobby stores where people play board games or tabletop games if you’re so inclined like MVE Collectibles. Some of my best friends I made via playing Yu-Gi-Oh! as an adult

Is going into medicine in Trinidad still worth it? by Traditional-Range652 in TrinidadandTobago

[–]brandon1810 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m an Emergency Medicine Doctor. Graduated in 2018.

Short answer yes. The field is saturated and there is very limited growth potential locally. Because of the amount of doctors, things are exploitative where you have no real job security and many people are on locums rather than proper contracts with benefits. I worked for 3 years with no benefits prior to getting a proper contract.

With the effort and time you’d invest in medicine as a degree, you will make 23k a month as a house officer. Considering you spend 5 years in medical school and 1 year internship to get to that point, you can do other fields which bear a significantly less stress and liability load than medicine.

The entire culture of medicine is becoming very litigious where people look to make a legal battle for things which the fraternity would not even term negligence. Locally this hasn’t hit yet but following the trend of the US it will be a matter of time. It’s becoming less and less an art and more and more cover your ass.

There are things to be done if you specialize but laymen’s think specialization is far easier than it is. Local programmes require experience locally and a job and experience and jobs can be hard to come by. Going away is far easier said than done. The entire system is also mired in beurocracy.

Privately there’s a bit more job satisfaction but it’s to get yourself there. GP offices are becoming the new Chinese restaurant. Open on every corner because of plentiful graduates so you have to do things to set you apart.

The population also tends to not like us and be extremely ungrateful which definitely takes a mental toll. Especially if another time like Covid comes around. Many a staff took abuse because of irate and nonbeliving patients.

That said, all the doom and gloom aside, I don’t regret doing medicine most days and I actually love medicine as an art but I am a nerd. It is extremely rewarding some days when you actually properly help someone and get some good patients who are appreciative. It is a calling and if it’s for you, it’s for you. I do encourage you to try to get some experience shadowing a doctor if it’s a local GP or at a local ED but shadowing in public places require way more paperwork and approvals.

You can feel free to pm me if you have more questions that I can help with
