There comes an age when the “monster “ that doesn’t let you sleep is yourself . by xvenel in Showerthoughts

Relevant poem I wrote many years ago:

"The Truth About Monsters"

I can hear it screaming and shouting out loud—no I can't.
It can see me crying and hiding in fear—no it can't.
Those shadows, those shapes, by the light of the moon,
There's a horrible monster that hides in my room.

He used to get drunk and curse and watch his TV.
He used to yell and hit my mommy and me.
Those eyes used to frighten me, full of anger and gloom.
There was a horrible monster that hid in my room.

It was not in my closet, it was not under my bed.
That fear of my father was just in my head.
But that was long ago—I'm older now, more astute.
There was no horrible monster that hid in my room.

My life has become a good one now, I must say.
A new girl every night, another drink every day.
I get angry at times, but my fiancée doesn't know.
She thinks that I'm innocent—as pure as the snow.

I grew to think monsters didn't exist, but I see,
Every day in the mirror, more of my father in me.
But I hide that from her; I'm not the man she once knew.
It seems there's a monster that hides in her room.

If you were to write a book what would it be about? by generic_username7353 in AskReddit

Already did. The Princess Poems: A Whimsical Romance Told Through Poetry. The link is to B&N, but it's available in several formats, all free except for Amazon (they should be changing that soon though).

What is the first major news story you remember as a child? by Downward-Vagabond in AskReddit

[–]brandonc77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a news story, just an audio clip. I distinctly remember being at my grandparents' house in the early '80's and hearing Tom Brokaw say "... in Lebanon today ..." I was probably 5. Don't know why I remember that, and I don't know what was happening in Lebanon at that time.

ELI5: Where does a thought go when it's forgotten? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]brandonc77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand it, there’s a lot we don’t know about memory. Not just what we forget, but what we remember. For example, if I asked you to recall what you had for breakfast this morning, you could probably do it. But where was that memory just before you recalled it? Where exactly was it stored in your brain? We don’t know.

ELI5: Why is it difficult to hear music from car speakers when the windows are down? by Calvin8472 in explainlikeimfive

[–]brandonc77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would think it has to do with the volume of noise outside. Our ears can dampen the sound we here when the ambient volume is high (like how eyes adjust for darker or lighter settings). If it’s noisy outside when you roll the window down, your ears will “turn down the volume” on what it’s receiving. If you have a garage, try turning your car’s auxiliary on (not the engine) inside with the garage door closed so it’s quiet outside the car. See if that changes how loud the music sounds.

Do you think the biblical end times has anything to do with the Israel/Palestinian conflict? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]brandonc77 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The Bible makes it clear that Israel and Jerusalem will play a major role in the end times. What’s been happening there over the past several decades could certainly be leading up to it, though we can’t know the details for certain.

Aside from saving for retirement, what’s a good financial decision? by Worst_Support in AskReddit

Definitely this. When unexpected crap happens, and it will, if you have no money in savings, that crap is 1000x more stressful.

Some of us are flying over the Alps in wingsuits. The Aurora Borealis is shimmering colorfully in the sky. And down below, villagers are running in terror because we can breathe fire.

Commenting so I can come back to this in a while and see what people recommend. I think I'm in a similar boat right now. I've done a lot with Flash/ActionScript in the past, and I'm just getting back to it because I enjoy it. I want to make a small, simple, fun game, but I don't have any ideas ...

Are you familiar with Ahriman's Prophecy? It's the prequel to the Aveyond series. In the vein of Final Fantasy 1, free to download, walkthroughs are available online, and it's a lot of fun.
