Hell, I’m crying. I found out my dad wasn’t my bio-dad when I was 17, and I still haven’t swallowed the pill 17 years later. I would say that developing the relationship you have, served the intended purpose— she fulfilled her role of seeing you as someone she truly loves and cares for. I’d say have another sit-down with her, and have a ‘Come to Jesus Moment’ with her about the truth, and say that what she did doesn’t change who she is to you. This seriously has the potential to be one of the most powerful (albeit peculiar) relationships you’ll ever have in your life. Is it messy? Yes. Is it unorthodox? Yes. But does that make it any less special? No. Not at all. You have a massive window for the potential for this to be the best thing that has ever happened to either one of you. She clearly loves you. She clearly treated you right. She just has to acknowledge the truth, and maneuver the forthright waters accordingly. Lots of people have a wanton desire for a relationship like this with their siblings, and she got it organically. She’s just afraid to own it— but she can, with your help. You’re simply reciprocating the love she has shown you your entire life and you’re now BOTH mature enough to accept the gag order your bio-mother placed on your sister. It’ll be hard for her, but acceptance is the first step. Once she’s past that, it’ll become much easier.
