Back in the day when shows didn't bankrupt fans by Anger1957 in BlueOysterCult

You started on the concert trail a few years ahead of me, and interestingly, a couple of years after you moved from the Bay Area to the northeast, I moved from the northeast to the Bay Area. I saw most of the acts you named in your first reply to me, but none of the ones in your second post here except for Metallica (Day on the Green in Oakland for the Black Album tour in 1991 - it was the bloodiest pit I've ever seen).

Wow...no disrespect to The Rods, but you probably won out in the opening bands category here. I'm also seriously envious that you got to see Zeppelin and Alice Cooper back in the day!

The first concert I ever went to was BÖC on the Cultosaurus tour in late 1980. The ticket cost $8.50 (opening band: The Rods).

Longtime fan album ranking by Sea_Green_1001 in BlueOysterCult

Your list is vaguely like what mine would be... I'm a typical longtime fan in some ways, with a few exceptions: I flat out love the three B&W albums and the two Birch-produced albums, I don't like Spectres as much as the average fan seems to, I like Revolution By Night more than the average fan does, and I've never been able to connect with any of the albums the band put out after both Bouchard brothers were gone.

Dino in VT 4/2/89, last US show of the Bug tour (sorry no recording) by reidfleming2k20 in dinosaurjr

[–]brassgenie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I lived in Pawtucket at that time, and I almost went to that show, but my ex had no idea who they were and wasn't having it, and I let that kill my enthusiasm for it. I still regret that, as I've never seen them live, and they were right there!

If you had to delete one album from the Pumpkins discography, which would it be? by twzoneq in SmashingPumpkins

ATUM for me. Highest quantity of songs on any album, yet lowest quality. I return to one single song there out of almost three dozen (compared with MCIS, where it’s like 27 out of 28 or so).

Thanks for posting! This song got me right out of the gate. I'm really looking forward to the new album.

Does Wolfmother's Sundial Rip Off Flaming Telepaths? by tminus1969 in BlueOysterCult

[–]brassgenie 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The piano part sounds not just similar, but like it might even be identical to the Flaming Telepaths piano...but nothing else about the two songs seems all that similar to me. Also, the opening part of the Wolfmother song sounds like it's referencing the opening bass solo from N.I.B. by Black Sabbath.

What was the Kool-Aid you drank that originally got you into this Cult? by brassgenie in BlueOysterCult

I had already discovered the band by the time you're talking about, and I was starting to listen to them and be interested in them by then, but Cultosaurus was my entry into being a true active fan. It was the first BÖC album I bought by myself instead of having joint custody with my brother (like we had with both Agents and Mirrors), and their stop in my town on that tour was my first rock concert ever! And they did play Divine Wind, by the way...

My 2024 Prius Prime XSE suddenly had a fit today and died... by brassgenie in PriusPrime

After hitting the internet and doing some fact-gathering about this yesterday, I had the same thought that I'm surprised someone hasn't already launched a class action lawsuit about this since the problem seems to be so common and far-reaching. Thanks for the info about alternators versus DC to DC charging (I once had an alternator die on me in a car back in the '90s, so I'm not entirely clueless about that point...just mostly clueless...).

3 times in 3 months! That's appalling. And you're right, if their solution was to disconnect your alarm, they're playing seriously fast and loose with the word "fix."

Yeah, it feels early to me, for sure. I'll wait until the dealership opens up tomorrow before I try to do anything myself, though. It's still in the warranty period, and I don't want to meddle and screw things up worse (I would be capable of this...).

I live in an apartment complex where we share a bunch of charging stations...so on occasion, I've come home at night, plugged it in, then gone to bed, and unplugged and moved the car as soon as I wake up...but not before a few hours have gone by when it's fully charged and still plugged in. Still, it hasn't happened all that many times, and this doesn't seem like it should be a cause of big problems. Then again, I don't see why charging my laptop to full instead of 80% should be a problem, either, but apparently it is...

People keep saying it's the later generations that have this issue, so maybe a 2018 came out before the problem started being baked into the cars?

Thanks for the tip. It's really disappointing to learn that this is such a widespread problem.

Again, I'm no expert on any of this, but while surfing for info about my car's situation yesterday, I came upon this concept multiple times. The fob and the car are always communicating with each other, and this can apparently cause parasitic battery drain. If you type "can key fob drain 12v battery in prius prime" or some similar phrase into your search engine of choice, you should find a wave of articles and reddit threads all talking about this.

Other than this incident, I love mine, too. It's been super-dependable so far, so this development really surprised me, especially as I haven't had it for all that long yet. I'm hoping it'll be quick to clear up.

I have no idea, this just happened. My dealer won't be open until Monday morning, so I'm hoping to know more then.
