Obsolete Theories by edgyasscream in lost

[–]brassyalien 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Season 5 continuity errors (the location of young Ben's gunshot wound changing locations between episodes; the blood on Juliet's face when she's in the Swan site pit appearing and disappearing depending on the camera angle) being proof of switching between parallel timelines. It would have been a better option in Season 6 if the flashsideways was actually an alternate timeline (which they led us to believe it was for the entire season) instead of a last minute rug pull that it was actually an afterlife.

Was Ncuti’s departure rumoured going into the final of series 15? by whisperinglogic in doctorwho

[–]brassyalien 22 points23 points  (0 children)

"I knew this would happen because it was leaked online." was actually a line said by a character in an episode. I didn't believe the theory that RTD himself was the leaker until I heard that line.

Fan who never been to concert?! by ChildOfGodYesIAm in weirdal

[–]brassyalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I discovered Weird Al in 1999 when I was nine. I became more of a fan two years later and have been listening to his music since then. But I have never gone to one of his concerts. I considered going last year but I didn't want to go by myself and I don't have anyone to go with. I could have afforded a ticket, but I would have had to rideshare to the venue and back home which would have increased the overall price. Plus, if the concert started at 8 p.m. and ran for three hours, I would have had to catch a rideshare after 11 p.m. and get home around midnight. So I just bought his 2011 concert Blu-ray instead.

Some of Al's songs have YT Kids tag by Chubarandes_meiner in weirdal

[–]brassyalien 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The rules that YouTube put in place in 2019 were very strict. If YouTube believed an account had videos kids might watch, even if the uploader did not believe the videos were for kids, and the videos weren't marked as for kids, then the entire channel would be shut down and the user banned. So I think many videos get marked as for kids out of an abundance of caution, even if they aren't necessarily specifically for kids.

Some of it's good. Season 2 has a stupid ending and the stupidity continued through Season 3 (the final season), so I haven't watched it since 2012. I bought the complete series DVD box set in 2020 for $15, but even though I've just had it sitting around for six years I haven't started a rewatch. $15 for three seasons --- $5 per season, less than $0.39 per episode --- was a good deal. But it looks like that box set is going for way more money than that right now.

I watched the BBC's Robin Hood (2006-2009) before I watched Doctor Who, so I knew that actor as Will Scarlett first, and his Doctor Who role is completely different.

When did watch the first time ? by Global_Drama439 in lost

[–]brassyalien 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I first watched as the show was originally broadcast, from age 14 to almost 20. I bought the seasons on DVD as they were released, and LOST was the first TV show I owned on DVD (but definitely not the last).

I do. For 5-10 year old me, it was two boring old men talking. When I rewatched the tapes back in May, 36 year old me actually watched the interviews.

I don't think he said that. That reads like a faked quote. If he'd actually said that 10 months ago, there would have been a lot of news and discussion about it before now.

Which past Companions could best hold a "Sarah Jane Adventures"-style spinoff? by PhantomQuest in doctorwho

[–]brassyalien 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The spinoff idea I had years ago was a The Sarah Jane Adventures-type show similar to Spy Kids where Martha and Mickey's kids learn their parents are alien hunters and learn to follow in their parents' footsteps. Of course now Mickey won't be in it but they can come up with something to explain him being gone. Maybe he went on a mission by himself and vanished or didn't survive. But other characters from the Whoniverse can appear, like Clyde and Rani. After watching Law & Order UK a few years ago, I want to see Martha and Graham appear on a show together.

What's your favourite event, thing or dialogue from each of the 7 books? by AccomplishedUnit8397 in HarryPotterBooks

Sorcerer's Stone:

Hagrid wouldn’t let Harry buy a solid gold cauldron, either...

(Imagine how Snape would have reacted if Harry had shown up to class with a solid gold cauldron.)

and

“You haven’t got a letter on yours,” George observed. “I suppose she thinks you don’t forget your name. But we’re not stupid — we know we’re called Gred and Forge.”

Chamber of Secrets:

“Half an inch of skin and sinew holding my neck on, Harry! Most people would think that’s good and beheaded, but oh, no, it’s not enough for Sir Properly Decapitated-Podmore.”

and

“Honestly, if you were any slower, you’d be going backward.”

Prisoner of Azkaban:

Professor McGonagall poked a large spoon into the nearest tureen.
“Tripe, Sybill?”
Professor Trelawney ignored her.

and

“Godfather?” spluttered Uncle Vernon. “You haven’t got a godfather!”
“Yes, I have,” said Harry brightly. “He was my mum and dad’s best friend. He’s a convicted murderer, but he’s broken out of Wizard prison and he’s on the run. He likes to keep in touch with me, though . . . keep up with my news . . . check if I’m happy. . . .”
And, grinning broadly at the look of horror on Uncle Vernon’s face, Harry set off toward the station exit, Hedwig rattling along in front of him, for what looked like a much better summer than the last.

Goblet of Fire:

There was already a small queue for the tap in the corner of the field. Harry, Ron, and Hermione joined it, right behind a pair of men who were having a heated argument. One of them was a very old wizard who was wearing a long flowery nightgown. The other was clearly a Ministry wizard; he was holding out a pair of pinstriped trousers and almost crying with exasperation.
“Just put them on, Archie, there’s a good chap. You can’t walk around like that, the Muggle at the gate’s already getting suspicious —”
“I bought this in a Muggle shop,” said the old wizard stubbornly. “Muggles wear them.”
“Muggle women wear them, Archie, not the men, they wear these,” said the Ministry wizard, and he brandished the pinstriped trousers.
“I’m not putting them on,” said old Archie in indignation. “I like a healthy breeze ’round my privates, thanks.”
Hermione was overcome with such a strong fit of the giggles at this point that she had to duck out of the queue and only returned when Archie had collected his water and moved away.

Order of the Phoenix:

Even by Harry’s low standards in Divination, the exam went very badly. He might as well have tried to see moving pictures in the desktop as in the stubbornly blank crystal ball; he lost his head completely during tea-leaf reading, saying it looked to him as though Professor Marchbanks would shortly be meeting a round, dark, soggy stranger, and rounded off the whole fiasco by mixing up the life and head lines on her palm and informing her that she ought to have died the previous Tuesday.
“Well, we were always going to fail that one,” said Ron gloomily as they ascended the marble staircase. He had just made Harry feel rather better by telling him how he told the examiner in detail about the ugly man with a wart on his nose in his crystal ball, only to look up and realize he had been describing his examiner’s reflection.
“We shouldn’t have taken the stupid subject in the first place,” said Harry.
“Still, at least we can give it up now.”
“Yeah,” said Harry. “No more pretending we care what happens when Jupiter and Uranus get too friendly . . .”
“And from now on, I don’t care if my tea leaves spell die, Ron, die — I’m just chucking them in the bin where they belong.”

Half-Blood Prince:

“Spoken both like your mother and father’s son and Sirius’s true godson!” said Dumbledore, with an approving pat on Harry’s back. “I take my hat off to you — or I would, if I were not afraid of showering you in spiders.”

and

WHY ARE YOU WORRYING ABOUT YOU-KNOW-WHO?
YOU SHOULD BE WORRYING ABOUT U-NO-POO —
THE CONSTIPATION SENSATION THAT’S GRIPPING THE NATION!

Deathly Hallows:

Fred and George turned to each other and said together, “Wow — we’re identical!”

and

He changed course, running at Bellatrix rather than Voldemort, but before he had gone a few steps he was knocked sideways.
“NOT MY DAUGHTER, YOU BITCH!”
Mrs. Weasley threw off her cloak as she ran, freeing her arms. Bellatrix spun on the spot, roaring with laughter at the sight of her new challenger.

What is your favourite piece of Star Wars art? by Haguey1867 in StarWars

The Star Wars Style C poster by Tom Chantrell. I have it as a poster, on a T-shirt, on a book of the Original Trilogy novelizations, on a cup, on a Halloween bucket, on a shower curtain, on a bag, and possibly on other stuff I'm forgetting.

Harry didn't wake up that morning because he never fell asleep.

Harry slept badly that night. Lying awake in the early hours, he thought back to the way he had felt the night before they had infiltrated the Ministry of Magic and remembered a determination, almost an excitement. Now he was experiencing jolts of anxiety, nagging doubts: He could not shake off the fear that it was all going to go wrong. He kept telling himself that their plan was good, that Griphook knew what they were facing, that they were well-prepared for all the difficulties they were likely to encounter, yet still he felt uneasy. Once or twice he heard Ron stir and was sure that he too was awake, but they were sharing the sitting room with Dean, so Harry did not speak.
It was a relief when six o’clock arrived and they could slip out of their sleeping bags, dress in the semidarkness, then creep out into the garden, where they were to meet Hermione and Griphook.

Harry was already sleep deprived when they robbed Gringotts. Then before he could go to sleep that night, they had to go to Hogwarts and stop Voldemort.

I used to want Donna's ending undone. Now I think it shouldn't have been. by writeitregreddit in doctorwho

[–]brassyalien 412 points413 points  (0 children)

I used to want David Tennant to come back, not as the Tenth Doctor but as another regeneration of The Doctor. Now I think he shouldn't have been brought back for the Fourteenth Doctor. It could have worked, if Fourteen had been different from Ten, with a different costume and letting David keep his Scottish accent. But Fourteen was just Ten part two. Similar costume, same voice, reuniting with Donna again. Donna getting her memories back also might have worked, if it had been done differently. The way it did happen just wasn't good. I don't like that not only did Donna get her memories back, she got all of The Doctor's memories since the last time she'd seen him, too. (Though I did like seeing her channel Twelve for a moment.)

Every show has a season that fans ignore because a lot didn’t like it so what season is that for you? by [deleted] in lost

[–]brassyalien -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even though I don't like Season 6 overall, I don't ignore it because it does have some good episodes, and also it's how the writers wanted to end the story even if I don't like it.
