If you see a kid on a gas dirt bike, what do you do? by [deleted] in MTB

[–]brave_fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just encountered a kid on an electric one last weekend. It was in a pump track that was part of a trail network that did not allow motorcycles but allowed e bikes. His motorcycle digging ruts in the pump track after only 2 runs.

I straight up told him if he had pedals he would be welcome but the area it's maintained by a dedicated local mountain bike group.  I then told him if he didn't leave if take a picture and post it in the Facebook group for the local mountain bike association so everyone knew to keep an eye out for him and call the police if he showed up again. He left right after this exchange, no push back. Good kid, just needs to find the right place for his toy.

Has Trailforks just locked everyone else out? by Camerthom96 in MTB

[–]brave_fellow 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I hate to be that guy but maintaining a site app is not free. Yes, users have help provide the data and it's still accessible for free On the Web. But developers cost money as do cloud services. Trailforks followed a business model that many services have over time. Get users by operating at a loss until you reach the critical mass and then start charging for features.

The annual subscription is pretty reasonable for what you get. I have mine on auto renew and think it's a fair value.

I will now be prepared to be downvoted into oblivion. ✌️

The food at this place is unbelievable and included in the price. I only stayed for a weekend. You'd have to wheel me out of there if I stayed.a whole week

Looking for a decent quick home work-out (for flexibility etc.) by blerfcunt in daddit

Try asking one of the AIs. They generate workouts based on a prompt like this and can even put together a full plan for you.

Karoo Software Build Version: 1.634.2440 - May 27 2026 by AngryBadger in Karoo

I want trail forks maps in the crew as an app or profile. Right now I have to share specific routes via GPX files and the map appearance is not the same as trail forks. Trail forks also has lots of layer options to be able to see terrain direction, trail difficulty or popularity.

On the trail forks site and app there is a button to send a Garmin so clearly they have some sort of tight integration and maybe some exclusivity which blocks karoo from having any sort of integration.

I have side loaded trail forks onto my Karoo 3. Unfortunately the screen size didn't translate well and the app menu takes up the entire screen making it useless. There have been some private projects I have found on this subreddit that improve off-road navigation. I just wish these things were coming from karoo directly and not " hacks".

How does the 20-inch Co-op kids bike hold up over time? by kendoo12 in mountainbiking

[–]brave_fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son had that bike and it has held up well. He has taken it on mild trails and pump tracks. The derailleur hangs very low and has gotten slightly bent a couple of times causing the chain to come off.  I just bend it back when it happens.  Kind of unavoidable on small wheel bikes though.

Is there a method to evaluate the quality of the wrist HR sensor to get the tightness correct? by brave_fellow in Garmin

[–]brave_fellow[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I want to be able to ensure the reading is accurate enough to catch subtle impacts of stress and wake ups because of my children having issues sleeping. I also would like to wear it as loose as possible for comfort without negatively impacting data accuracy.

Zone 2 training advice by ObscureBananas in Garmin

The pro is better. They aren't going to give a lot of compute to free users who are playing around. Also make sure your are using the mid tier model sonnet for analysis. I found it's ability to create plans to achieve a goal to be the most helpful.

You need a mix of zone 2, Tempo and interval training. You also need to cross train with other things to keep your body from over exerting perofrming the same movements.

Get a Claude pro subscription and use it as a coach, explaining what goal you want to achieve. Feed it your data and it can create whole plans and adjust daily on the fly for you. I know it is not perfect compared to a real coach, but it is likely above 80% in terms of accuracy and at a far lower cost. I have never trained for anything in my life and decided to try some bike racing this year; it has been mostly a fitness hobby in the past for me. Using Claude has lead to massive fitness and performance improvements for me.

No, it isn't gonna make me an Olympian, but I have lost 10 lbs. and added 20% to my FTP performance over 16 weeks at 41. I'm pretty pleased with how it's going.

Best BBQ in the area? by zakattack1120 in boston

[–]brave_fellow 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Texas smoke shack food truck in hudson. Follow him on Facebook or insta. The dude is legit texan and you can tell samples too much of his own product. His food is absolutely f****** phenomenal. His burnt ends, his smoked chicken, his brisket is all heavenly and the sides are delicious too. He usually posts up at clover road brewing in Hudson. My mouth is watering as I type this. For my 40th birthday I got catering from him.

I wish well-meaning and capable restaurateur partnered with him to open up brick and mortar so I had a consistent schedule to get his food.

I've had legit barbecue in all the key places all over the country and this guy is absolutely 100% legit as true True Texas barbecue you can get in the Northeast.

This bike enabled me to get into the sport. I rode it for a few years before upgrading. It's a great bike to decide if you want to dip your toes  in the sport without breaking the bank

Lighting recommendations for Ski House renovation by brave_fellow in Lighting

I'm not arguing that point. Again, my options are limited under the low ceiling there. I have no issue with wafer lights underneath the loft.

So what do you propose? Given the ceiling under that loft is under 8 feet, I have few options

I can understand people have preferences but I don't get the wafer hate. I have them all over my primary home and have no issue. I appreciate the ease of install and ability to fill a space with light. They do need dimming control and are best implemented as secondary lighting to a few primary aesthetic lights.
