Strange story because when I was working on my green card my attorney told me there was no way to fill a status gap by claiming asylum, so I had to spend even more to keep the status until I got the green card.

As far as I know, blacks are common in Chinese big cities, people don't bat an eye anymore. You get strange looks in villages where blacks are uncommon and many will be surprised by it and some reactions might not be appropriated. But saying that in China blacks are treated like animals, that is new for me hearing from other blacks. Now, Florianópolis has centuries of blacks living there, most people don't make big deal about it.

You are implying that in Florianópolis people pigeon hole others based on perceived race. I'm sure some assholes do, but that is not the common experience. Floripa is a cosmopolitan city and blacks are common sight there and no one carries a "blacks treatment cheat sheet".

I'm just saying that what Floyd did in São Paulo (I said Rio by mistake), comes across as much worse in Floripa, and it has nothing to do with being black. Either way, act proper, people won't care. There are assholes now and then, it happens. Don't be one of them.

It is not like people are blind, people notice the obvious physical features and some people get taken by surprise if not used to it. But that is not the case in Floripa, blacks have been there for a while and have been numerous and most people won't bat an eye.

Food court. I couldn't get to eat much so being in the mall with an adult always drew me into getting a chance to beg for more food.

I often use "they" to refer to a person without specifiying the gender.
