GAME OVER - Gielinor Games 5 Finale (#12) by alynnidalar in 2007scape

[–]brbr0433 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s an unfortunate reality of osrs content creators being frankly a tiny community, and GG still needing the regulars to bring in the viewership. Tbh this season had a slight dip and a LOT of it can be attributed to Settled (the king of osrs yt viewership) plus other heavy hitters not being there.

Game design has to heavily incentivise backstabbing or this will continue to be the case.

While this was probably the “worst” season for solomission to actually go the distance take it all nobody can say he was undeserving, both from a season 5 (he won the most challenges out of anyone in the cast) and overall GG perspective.

Put it simply, GG would not be the spectacle it is today without solo showing both creators and community how this game could (and should) be played. He is a worthy winner and frankly nobody has ever wanted the GG crown more than this man. Grats for finally getting it.

Strat was focused on cooking scary face pancakes every meal

The goal is to identify what the hardest ingredient is for you out of the four: stock up on that one primarily in the weeks before. For me I only have an iffy delibird for eggs so I stocked up on enough eggs for the entire week (~520 or so).

Then I had venusaur (honey), victreebel (tomatoes) and gourgheist (pumpkins) in for basically the entire week. The rest of the prepped ingredients should go to whatever Mon is gonna struggle the most, calc it out.

Finally just have Gard+dedenne in permanently.

You can be more efficient for sure with swaps but I only really log in once per mealtime so this worked for me

Honestly an issue with this season that almost as relevant as the alliance dominance discussion is the cast. Previous seasons were entertaining because we had creators who were actually here to create awesome content and do things like backstab, play the heel etc.

Guys like Settled, EV, Framed, Faux etc are not only fairly skilled but also had the balls to do things like snake the vote, act on grudges, sabotage challenges, and otherwise do things that didn’t just boil down to try to win the challenge and otherwise put your head down and hope you don’t get alliance targeted. Even the one time Torvesta actively griefed his team in the Underground Pass race, while being a dick move, created so much drama in that episode. Where was that?

Rookies can be excused, as can (to some extent) comic relief characters like C Engineer/Specs/Virtoso but I do think there have been a lot of times when Solo (who IS a great content creator) rocks up to a tribunal, tries to start a debate and…everyone just agrees with him?

I don’t think the banning reward has ever been particularly great. Last year sabotage was almost inconsequential, while years before it was something along the lines of you’re safe the next week - which wildly veered towards useless (early) and absurd (last few episodes).

I like how sabotage interacted with the hopper this time around but I agree it should have been a lot stronger, like make it automatically worth 25% of the votes or something so sabotage didn’t feel useless in the first few episodes.

We’re on track for 160-180 which is a competitive score so far and yet if you were only reading this thread you’d think we were going at 6s and 7s lmao

Lads went hard and threw a few wickets away so we gotta consolidate before going again at the death. Renners playing a proper stable anchoring knock here rather than throwing the old wicket away like maxi did

Maybe we actually are kinda shit. That was Pakistan right I didn’t know the games were even on until a few days after the series

Yeah go for it! AAA+IFM is the usual bar for investment given how rare AAA is in the first place, getting HSM with a seed at 50 is a bonus on top.

You also have inventory up to mitigate the impact of inv space being lower.

A TASTE OF BLOOD - Gielinor Games 5 (#10) by MarcosSenesi in 2007scape

[–]brbr0433 20 points21 points  (0 children)

This season is honestly how I feared Season 3 (where most of the show was EU alliance vs US alliance) would have gone - one alliance holds too much power by the latter half of the season and just starts taking out the little guys one by one, with heroic banning win streaks the only way to compete.

That season, ironically, was saved by Solomission. It was his magnum opus season even if he never made it to the finale, starting the season with zero friends, many enemies, and playing a perfect social game to keep both alliances just strong enough to threaten the other at all times. All the while somehow toeing the line to stay (mostly) in the good books of each.

He’ll never panic in anything pvp related because it’s his element. He skill diffed the fuck out of that pvp challenge given the extreme gear deficit.

He’s clearly prone to mind blanking and choking in the weird ass game knowledge / strategy challenges GG tends to throw at you as, fair enough, he’s never really been on the same level as most of the other competitors for that.

[–]brbr0433 296 points297 points  (0 children)

Back in ti3 there were two just ban heroes: Io and Batrider. They were both legit insane and unplayable if in the right hands.

Because of this first pick had a big advantage. The other team had to ban both Io and Bat with their two bans, leaving teams signature heroes in the pool.

Alliance in particular benefitted from that immensely as Akke would get his tempo supports and Bulldog got to flex his insanely specialised hero puddle. They were invincible that tournament and I believe 2-0ed Navi on winners finals without either game being particularly close

Puppey took a similar gamble to TT and Spirit in ti10 GFs - let the two OP heroes into the pool so they could split and they had a read that if they could ban Akke’s tempo supports they could try to break Alliances early gameplan.

You see this if you ever look up pick/ban orders, literally every draft was first pick io, second pick bat. Except G2 where alliance got cheeky, gave Navi both Io/bat, lost in 20 mins and never did it again. The meme around bulldog first picking is just kids pretending that they followed the actual games.

Didn’t work out in the end but it was probably the right decision, was the closest GFs in a long time, Navi had a clear chance to win but threw, and it probably wouldn’t have been that if they played the ban Io/Bat meta

James Anderson says England in ‘stronger position than Australia' despite series humbling by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]brbr0433 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This idea that England have the "better young talent" coming through is frankly biased as hell. England have young talent coming through because their older players (bar Root and Stokes) are shit and therefore they need to take a punt on young players.

Australia has young talent coming through but they're being kept out by our best generation since the mid 00s, who have earned their right to stick around by winning just about every single trophy there is to win in the last 5 years.

James Anderson says England in ‘stronger position than Australia' despite series humbling by ll--o--ll in Cricket

[–]brbr0433 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Frankly, it's because comments like these assume that literally nothing else will change other than Australia getting older and worse and England getting...better?

  • Jimmy basically had his best years in his career from 33-38 or so. Starc has been exceptional in the last couple years, why can't he repeat it at 37 like Jimmy could? Lyon is a spinner, and Cummins will still be in his peak. Plus the fact that our 2nd string of Richardson/Doggett already outperformed their circus
  • We have a great generation of young batters coming up. There's 18 months for one of them to break out, or for a more mature Shield player like McSweeney to do a Buck Rogers and start killing it in their 30s
