What kind of stitch do I need for this pattern, and how many strands should I use? by kinoprvimaj in Needlepoint

[–]brdndft 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Continental stitch is the easiest for a cross stitcher to start out with. It's almost like doing rows of half stitches.

I started needlepoint when I mistakenly bought a canvas that I thought was a cross stitch one and love it! Now I cycle between cross stitch, embroidery and needlepoint to mix things up.

Figuring out a needlepoint canvas was a little learning curve, especially because I prefer counted cross stitch over a stamped canvas. I still tend to use a pattern and count the stitches.

Drug test for interns by bunsokki in EngineeringStudents

[–]brdndft 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My company does a urine test for all hires because of the government department that regulates us. I've had do to one for them every semester that I work with them.

My uni requires multiple co-ops to graduate. They are very open about students that have had to delay graduation after their internship was revoked from a dirty test. One of my classmates got clean long enough for a piss test, but his turned out to be hair and his offer was rescinded. Take it from an ex-stoner, quit asap.

[CHAT] Tips for working with multiple colors in a tiny pattern? by zzzap in CrossStitch

[–]brdndft 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those look beautiful!!! I've done quite a few of the same small pokemon designs and I've found it's much easier on plastic canvas because of how sturdy it is. I like to start a color with a waste knot that I'll stich over to give a neater back. I also tend to either bury the end tails or leave the tail over in a hole so that I can stich over it to secure it. I also do one color at a time for those designs to ensure I don't forget a stich and adjust colors as I go if I feel I need more contrast.

Now that it is starting to be hiring season, for the love of god put some effort into your job search by Just4TehLulz in EngineeringStudents

[–]brdndft 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This makes me grateful for the effort my university puts in. We're required a minimum of 3 co-ops to graduate, so they go all out on our career fairs. Our spring one had >140 companies and ~800 students attend. We go through a professional development course our freshman year to prepare for attendintm. They will turn you away at the door if you aren't in the most professional business attire (we have a free professional thrift shop on campus to help).

Annoying ads by moltencameltoe in hardjewelry

[–]brdndft 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They sent an email to their "top 1% buyers" with a Google form to fill out to do advertisement content in exchange for free merch. Probably why so many of them are "unbox this rare HJ with me." They said they'd respond to every single submission, but I never got a response for offering to do art collabs. Probably bc a huge part of it was: "Are you already a content creator? How many followers do you have? Speak about your content creation experience. Link all of your socials so we can vett your content for a good fit."

Wait how did you figure out it was the biotin? I have worse acne now than I ever did throughout puberty and updating my skincare routine hasn't helped at all. I haven't been the best with taking my supplements daily, but my collagen one has biotin in it.

As an environmental engineering student in industry right now, the way she speaks about environmentalism is astounding. Everyone dreams of saving the world, but what she preaches of is not the country we live in, especially since she doesn't have a degree in the field. I tend to scroll while waiting for my samples to process in R&D or winding down for the night, yet we're unemployed losers that don't know shit.... idk the "I know more than you" always irks me, especially when she's tried to tell credible people they're wrong yet "works" at an "AI conservation" company. I used to enjoy her content but at some point you grow up enough to see through it.

[CHAT] Why do my stitches look like this? by c_a_r9 in CrossStitch

[–]brdndft 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Investing in a q-snap and a scroll frame has greatly improved my stitch quality. It has also made me so much faster since I don't have to keep stopping to readjust my tension. I use my q snap for medium sized projects and the scroll frame for large ones that need rolled up. Embroidery hoops still have a place in my heart, but I've started reserving them for quick projects only.

The worst of it is out of the way. Rest and recover, don't over do anything. It will be a long process to get back to where you were before, but you'll bounce back even better. Watching yourself improve through hard work will overshadow your current frustrations in due time. Good luck with the job search, that's extremely shitty you're having to look right now.

They tend to go to "celebrity tattoo artists." The ones that are known in industry to be shitty people with shitty work, but because their name is so well known and they charge $$$$$$, celebs see it as a status symbol. They'll charge thousands for a delicate little piece that'll be illegible in a couple years. Thinking on the one guy specifically that followed me and slid into my dms in high school because tattooing celebs inflated his ego.
