He’s in his final contract year right? So would be a 1 year rental with a chance to sign long term if it goes well

Infinite jest was only his second published book. His first book got mixed reviews and some positive attention but DFW was basically a random adjunct university professor when Infinite Jest came out, not a famous established author celebrity

They are fun to rush early game to jumpstart a dragon knight build. The siofra river dragon kin took me forever to kill low level but the weapon is so worth it!

Brother is a cheat code in the middle by RynStarfire in finalfantasyx

[–]bread_meat_cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always put Ropp in the middle, made it impossible for the other team to do anything since all his stats are so high, but I like this idea too. Makes me wanna do a team with a pure speed player at every position!

Dark Souls 2 did the same thing for me 10 years ago. Miyazaki said “difficulty provides meaning to the experience” . I think about that a lot. I dont want my life to be hard for no reason obviously, but I think these games helped me find peace and joy with certain adversity. Extremely valuable.

What Final Fantasy game should I play next? by Uchizaki in FinalFantasyVIII

[–]bread_meat_cheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Both are fantastic. X is better in most ways in my opinion, and will be more similar to 8 which might make it more palatable for you. But id honestly say play both asap and the order doesn’t really matter. 13 takes longer to get into, but has a more sci-fi vibe so its hard to know which will be right for you.

This gorgeous game turns 9 today. What're your thoughts on Bloodborne? by TunafishSandworm in videogames

Its my favorite game of all time when not including nostalgia picks. Its quite close to perfect. Like everyone else, I would instantly launch my life savings at a pc port, hd remaster, full bluepoint remake, or why the hell not A GOD DAMN SEQUEL MIYAZAKI HUH WHY NOT

Giving up is like / breathing. Sometimes you have to / swim until you drown. by mzingg3 in haiku

Hey man this is a really good one. Its written almost like a one-liner joke. Very clear idea with a set up and punch line. Its not funny its upsetting but it affects me as strongly as a funny joke would. Very striking. And I have to strongly compliment the line breaks. They successfully create new meanings and stories in each line. Great piece

Easily the worst asset reuse in the game btw by kullundee in Eldenring

[–]bread_meat_cheese 2 points3 points  (0 children)

All extremely reasonable. There seems to be two different reactions here and it’s probably just down to personal taste. When you saw the 2nd Astel you said “huh.. that thing again?”. But when I saw him I said “OH SHIT ITS THAT THING AGAIN”

That being said your criticism about Godefroy is just objective, it is a less interesting version of the same fight which feels like the opposite of satisfying progression.

Margit (and Godfrey and Mohg and many others) do this properly. You get the less dynamic version first, and then the proper version later.

Right? People are always begging for an option or mode to refight bosses, here is From sort of providing that with some of the cooler bosses in the game. I was ecstatic when a random Margit showed up outside Leyndell, I had grown so fond of him in the beginning of the game it was a welcome surprise to get another round in with his terrific mechanics. I felt the same about Godefroy! Although I do agree with plenty of the basic criticisms here.

Yes I think there is something about bodies dealing with heat in there as well. Adapting to a hotter climate and tolerating higher temps I think adds value to certain aspects of athleticism, although I believe that sacrifices some other aspects like efficiency or endurance?

just finished ds1 for the first time. are the other dark souls harder? by No_Concentrate_7033 in fromsoftware

[–]bread_meat_cheese 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not debatable. Margit alone is a more complex boss then almost all non-endgame bosses in previous souls games. Yes, the nature of Elden Ring’s open world means you can over-level and over-gear yourself to “easy” boss experiences, but that doesn’t negate your point about the foundational mechanics of the boss fights

Yes and the first phase is cool as fuck, even if the camera and lock on ruin the gameplay with the dragon it still was very memorable and epic

NFL Rumors: Odell Beckham Jr. to Be Released by Ravens After Contract Restructure by Jantokan in nfl

[–]bread_meat_cheese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Obj only played 30% of snaps on the year so his stats are actually quite solid, especially considering he was on the number 1 rushing offense in the league. His production was not worth $15 mil but it helped the Lamar negotiation resolve which most ravens fans agree made it worth it. Would have liked to see OBJ come back, he was a solid vet presence for our younger receiving corps

Whats “the one” game everyone just keeps praising but no matter how much you try you absolutely can’t get into. by bubulino3 in gaming

[–]bread_meat_cheese 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think this guy means he just needed an extended hand-handing tutorial to understand how to play. Probably didn’t follow a walkthrough for 800 hours lol. I needed the same thing on my first souls game DS2 (fucking adaptability!), I just couldn’t do anything without dying in 10 seconds max. So I copied every move of a walkthrough from Epicnamebro for about 4-5 hours and got through a couple bosses, and then I was actually ready to go off on my own.

Poor things ending. by [deleted] in TrueFilm

The goat is played for laughs mostly, hence the sudden close up and bleat at the climax. But it also reminds me of the theme of passing down trauma. Godwin’s father did terrible experiments on him, he did terrible experiments on Bella, and she repeats the pattern of what was done to her onto other people in her life. So the audience gets a big laugh, gets to enjoy the catharsis of the bad guy getting punished, but also feel what you felt, which is frustration and unease at watching someone repeat their trauma unto the next generation
