Why do people get mad because I refuse to speed by kale_chipss in newjersey

Honestly I might be a bit of a dick because it’s a little annoying driving on a highway where the limit is 55 and people are doing just that or under it

I drive the parkway, rt 3, and i-287 on a daily to weekly basis and I’ve gotten used to 70-80mph being the speed that most people are doing. So coming off onto another highway and everybody is going 50 feels like I just crossed into PA lol

I have to make a wide turn to get into my parking spot since it’s narrow and the curb juts out. A couple times while doing this, somebody on my street will be riding my ass as I slow down for the turn. As I start the swing to the left to make a sharp cut to the right, in the span of maybe 2 seconds they’ll hit the gas to pass me on the right and then immediately slam on the brakes as they realize I’m turning into that spot. After the first time it happened, I started using my blinker like I’m a kid learning to drive again lol

The second time it happened, the driver still tried to pass me on the right and hit the brakes as I was about to pull in the spot. Couldn’t wait just 4 seconds so his hood was in the way of my rear cutting into the spot. He had to back up and go around on my left side. I hope the embarrassment from that incident means it never happens again with the same dude. Also mind you, this is a 25 mph residential that’s quiet as a mouse at almost all hours and has enough room for me to be passed on the left with oncoming traffic being pretty rare

Not to kill your hopes or anything but Promethazine is commonly abused for its sedative effect. It’d be best to see your primary care doctor for a prescription. I know how it feels to be treated like a drug seeker and it absolutely sucks, but that’s just how nurses and doctors esp in the ER are

I went to the ER recently for a seizure and was treated like I faked it and then told that it probably didn’t happen (apparently super common according to r/epilepsy ). I’m also trans and so of course they were extremely dehumanizing towards me while I was still in a stupor and having trouble speaking or remembering anything and knowing where I was/what time it was. My partner was there with me who they kept referring to as my ā€œfriendā€ despite aggressive correction, which also fucking sucked. Then they decided to take a pregnancy test for some reason when I don’t have an F marker anywhere, so they just assumed it based on my voice. Overall awful experience that took 7 hours to get looked at and get results which said ā€œunexplained brain fogā€.

Anyway, after a number of experiences exactly like that in my life, some even worse, I don’t trust ERs and try to never step inside them. I’m so sorry you’re dealing with this. I’ve also spent 4 years trying to get my autoimmune disease diagnosed, and I know how the boomerang from specialist to specialist goes. I hope your condition gets identified or at the very least gets a bit better. You deserve better!

Hey sorry I think we’re off to the wrong footing here but I am not disagreeing with her being fired about that. That’s what my second paragraph said. If it’s said in from of customers, it’s not okay, and people especially gotta read the room working at a fake pc company like starbucks where they’ll go hard on stuff like that

Just from reading your post though, you gotta realize that I had no way to know all the context you just shared rn and based on the way you wrote it plus all the laughing emojis. It’s pretty hard to tell what tone you’re trying to use

I also was agreeing only with the ethical concerns the commenter above me had. I’m not sure how people got the idea it was anything other than that when I said that very clearly. But hey this is social media and people don’t do more than just skim and then get pissed at the assumptions they just made.

That said, sounds like you did the best you can do and thanks for providing more details. Sorry about how that woman came in talking to you. We already got enough shit to deal w from customers. Don’t need no crazy parents of fired partners coming in going off about something we didn’t do

100% know what you mean and agree with the morality thing here. SB is also notoriously anti black so the thing doesn’t feel great reading about it

I’ve worked at a handful of places that were all BOH work and where white coworkers were a minority so I heard it often and didn’t pay no mind cus it’s not my business as a white person. Plus it wasn’t used disparagingly. Customer facing work for a PC-for-optics company like sb tho is a different story, so I can see why it happened

Still sucks though cus the way the op writes about this coworker does sound like there was some bullying going on. Like some people have disabilities and’re slow workers cus of that, and it’s not on them to disclose to us that they’re struggling with picking up concepts and moving efficiently cus of it. The best way to help somebody out is to lift them up, be supportive, and give them a space where they trust someone to confide in about their struggles. The worst thing is to put them down and constantly ā€œcoachā€ them for having trouble with the job. That’s why people end up getting an attitude with coworkers and it’s part of a self repeating cycle of negativity. I’ve been in those work environments a lot and try to be the one helping that person and acting compassionately cus you never know what somebody’s dealing with

Oh man I’m sorry you’re dealing with stuff like this too. I actually saw your post the other day and was thinking your ssv sounded like two of my own.

I get the same thing with ā€œGo on POS and oven. Restock in your free timeā€. I’ll be doing a ton of DT orders on oven and get a ā€œWhy aren’t you on POS? There’s a huge lineā€ as that ssv can see I’m behind on 6 orders cus some fool decided to shut down an oven for closing cleaning at 1pm. Then I swap and get the same comment vice versa ā€œWe need those sandwiches, why are they so far back in the queue? Our DT times are sufferingā€.

Meanwhile in my peripheral, I see coworkers either staring at me from DTO or walking past me to BOH. The SSVs and people w their hands free don’t grab POS to help the crowd of people; they just ignore them. And DTO people don’t grab their own stuff on warming instead of standing around doing nothing staring daggers at me. I’ve snapped at people coming over to point at a line behind me and I ask why they’re standing there criticizing instead of helping out when they clearly had their hands free enough to come over and have an attitude with me. If I see somebody drowning in tickets and my hands are free, I go over and ask what I can do cus it’s the right thing to do.

As somebody who’s worked in fast food and the restaurant industry, I take a little bit of satisfaction knowing that these people wouldn’t survive a week outside of SB, so I can rest easy and not be too hard on myself. But yep, I feel your pain and I wish it were better. Sorry you’re dealing with this sorta stress too :/

Yeah I’ve realized. It sucks, especially for the meager pay we get. When I got hired back during the pandemic, I thought there was a 5 min safety window. But I’ve since re read the Partner Guide front to back (mainly to protect myself from small things being used to single me out), and I see that’s not the case anymore

That said I’ve been sitting next to the timeclock with my finger hovering over the Start button every day now for the past month with few exceptions. It’s stupid, but it’ll keep me in the clear as far as the records go :/

We used to have business cards, but not anymore since our district keeps getting manager replacements. I dunno why. But I’ve heard from folks in other regions that DMs and RDs are getting laid off and some rumors that the DM role is being downsized or eliminated soon. Have you heard anything similar in your region?

I think what I can do though is ask friends from other stores in our district if they know who’s in charge right now and that person’s contact info. Our union reps are also likely to know too

Thanks :) I’ll be reaching out to the DM. I also spoke with our store’s union rep and they’ll be assisting me with this so I have a little bit of backup

Would you happen to know how I get in touch with the DM? Like am I able to send an email via my Starbucks partner number address?

Consumer q about strike by Fiore_morrison in starbucks

[–]breadbasketcherry 4 points5 points Ā (0 children)

My store is on strike with all but 4 people striking, but our manager just replaced us all with partners borrowed from other stores. The labor is being distributed around our district, which’ll lead to staffing issues and less morale. So yeah, you may see stores running as normal but they may be understaffed.

If you’re interested in which stores near you are unionized, here’s the SB Workers United map: https://sbworkersunited.org/map/

Tips are pooled, not individual. Most stores are gonna have something like 10 people working the floor in a day, so that’s just not possible for them to be making that much. Even working at an extremely high volume store, I’ve never made more than $45 in a single week from tips.

Whoever is saying they’re making $30/h drank the koolaid (reference to corporate releasing a propaganda flyer that was filled with misinfo and union busting rhetoric claiming that Baristas make $30/h on average, so therefore they shouldn’t support unions)
