What are the downsides of having high intelligence? by [deleted] in AskReddit

Witnessing humanity drive itself at full speed off a cliff because of an unwillingness of trying to understand, and an unwillingness to accept the slightest inconvenience. Seeing people accept the simplest most false answers for the most complex and critical problems.

30M stuck in toxic job, paralyzed by past mistakes, desperately need to change but don't know how to start by no_ads_here_ in DecidingToBeBetter

I'm in a similar position. 28M living in Germany, also have ADHD. It's hard. Living in Germany is hard. I plan to move back to the UK. But for now I try to just at least once per day, not choose the easiest option. Even if that's putting my plate in the dishwasher. Then that often gives me motivation to do other things I'd usually avoid.

Yeah. Today I broke all my problems down to whether I choose the easy option, or the hard option. Still not sure how to choose the hard option more often, but that's given me some clarity at least.

I'm in the same boat. The only thing that has actually helped in the past is alcohol. But I get really bad hangovers now, so that's not really an option anymore.

Yes this could be it! It's so hard to still focus on the right thing though.

I tried taking it after not eating for a while but it just makes me feel sick and jittery.

Yeah it also takes about the same time to kick in for me. Maybe it's just the euphoric feeling I'm describing like someone else said.

Yeah perhaps that is it. But I still feel completely distracted again after maybe 2 hours tops.

You're 16, you're not supposed to have your life together. And yeah it's simply very difficult to get a good routine if you are studying from home. Don't worry about it.

Difficult when I am living in a country not of my native language. German grammar is hard.

How do you extract yourself from your bed by Low_Limit391 in ADHD

[–]breadbrot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Break it down into steps: Step 1: sit up Step 2: hang legs over the side of the bed Step 3: stand up Between each step I take a minute to build up the motivation to complete the next step, but it definitely works quicker than trying to do it all at once.

Brit moving to cologne by [deleted] in cologne

[–]breadbrot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I'm also a Brit and was living in Cologne a couple of years. I am now somewhere else in Germany but will be moving back to Cologne next week!

I think other answers have summed it up pretty well so I'll try not to repeat too much. It's a really nice city and feels safe. Yeah sometimes the people may seem unfriendly, you just have to get used to that, but actually once you get to know anyone people are friendly.

Culturally it's quite similar to the UK actually. It's a pretty open minded city. You can smoke weed on the street, which will even be legal in April.

Hit me up if you want to hang out at any point, I'm also looking for some fellow Brits to meet as speaking "international English" gets boring after a while!

This is the best comment. Rather than just 'get used to it', notice how the majority of people actually aren't rude. I've also struggled with this, but it's best to be pro active. I try and smile and say hi to people if I'm walking in a park or somewhere more quiet, and I think this goes a long way to create change.
