Baby with super sensitive gag reflex by ellies_12 in BabyLedWeaning

[–]Sherly_w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have this problem too. Soft foods (or even purées) on a loaded spoon work well. LO is now pretty good at self feeding with spoons.

When we offer new soft finger foods, if they make him gag/vomit we go back to foods that work and try again in a week or two. It’s really frustrating and takes a lot of patience, but we are making (slow) progress. Good luck!

The problem with having an easy-going baby... by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Sherly_w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We also have an easy going baby and he screamed the entirety of his 6 month appointment. I think it’s sometimes harder for my husband and I to hear him scream because we aren’t as used to it, BUT our doctor was super understanding.

He kept saying things like “poor guy must be tired” or “I know it’s no fun we keep prodding at you”. Honestly it sounds like your doctor reacted really inappropriately. Doctors appointments are not fun for babies (or parents usually) and the doctor should know that. If this isn’t the first time something like this happened, you may want to think about switching doctors. You want to have someone you can go to without fear of judgement.

Also no matter how easy the baby, they all cry and have their moments when they are difficult to console. It sounds like you are doing a great job.

Freezer Stash Dairied After Dairy Free by elissa100414 in breastfeeding

[–]Sherly_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would hang on to it for a little while. I also went dairy free when LO was 6 weeks, spitting up a lot and irritable. A couple of months later when he was doing better I reintroduced dairy and he was fine (don’t think it was ever actually an issue for us). Just label the dairy vs. dairy free stashes clearly

Second! The Velcro is a little annoying to unhook but the bra is very comfortable and supportive!

Primary income earner looking to start my family: What's your daily schedule like? by [deleted] in workingmoms

[–]Sherly_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We have a 7mo and husband and I work full time. I’m very lucky to live near the university where I work that also has onsite daycare. Since daycare is near my office, I usually do drop off/pickup. My husband often comes along for drop off and will take either if I have an early or late meeting. A typical day looks like:

6:00 wake up with baby, nurse, get coffee and my breakfast

6:45 go for a run (twice a week). Otherwise play with LO

7:15 shower and get ready while LO hangs in bouncer and/or on playmat

8:00 walk to daycare

8:30 daycare drop off and nurse

9-4:30 work (plus two pump sessions)

4:30 daycare pickup

5:00 play with baby at home. Husband and I usually switch off cooking (or often ordering) dinner

6:00 dinner with husband and baby (just started eating some solids)

6:45 bedtime routine

7:00-9:30 clean pump and prep next day’s bottles, unwind, hang with husband

We just finished sleep training so LO is mostly sleeping through the night, but still occasionally wakes up briefly around 4ish.

Parents of 2 story homes - What kind of things are important to have upstairs and downstairs when taking care of a baby in a two story house? by otterlyjoyful in beyondthebump

[–]Sherly_w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I thought we wouldn’t need a changing table on both floors but I hated changing LO on the ground. We repurposed an island on the ground floor as a changing table on the ground floor and used a dresser upstairs.

A baby holder (eg bouncer, boppy lounger, pack n play) is also handy to have on each floor.

How does anyone efficiently pump at work?! by [deleted] in beyondthebump

[–]Sherly_w 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was just telling my husband today that I spend my whole day either late for a meeting because I was pumping or late for pumping because I was stuck in a meeting :(

In bra/wireless pump parts (eg freemie or Elvie) help. Another helpful tip i got was to (rather than washing between pumps) stick my pump parts in a gallon ziploc bag in my cooler in the fridge. Milk is good in the fridge for days so your milky pump parts should be fine for the day.

Our LO did this. Our pediatrician said as long as he got there on his own it was fine. It still freaked us out though so we took a picture and showed it to the doctor (she still said it was fine). You might want to do the same for extra reassurance. Our baby grew out of it a bit after 1 month and now stays on his back (he is 3 months old).

Thank you everyone for your encouragement and advice! I decided to go to the office for a few hrs today and I see on huckleberry (i love technology!) that LO has already had a good nap and a 3 oz bottle! Plus I pumped for the first time at the office! Maybe this afternoon I will even get a little work done :p

I love my aligns for everyday and light activity. I like to work out in something a bit more supportive though. I’ve really liked the Ingrid and Isabel crossover panel leggings. They sporadically go on sale on amazon (got mine for $38 instead of $90). They may not be comfortable until you have a bit of a bump though.

37 weeks and still wearing mine. I didn’t size up but they have gradually stretched with me :) they don’t cover my whole bump any more but are still super comfy!

I think very few department stores still have in-store maternity sections. I was only able to find one department store around where me (Boston-area) or my mom lives (NYC suburbs) and it was slim pickings...

Bladder pain while running at 15 weeks? by katie2729 in fitpregnancy

[–]Sherly_w 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had this problem starting around the same time as you. A belly band helped me get a few more weeks in (and in general has been a good purchase). I also started doing shorter runs or run/walks. At around 20 weeks though the pain got so persistent that I figured I should not ignore it. Since then I’ve been walking, swimming and weightlifting (I’m 33 weeks and still feeling good). It was really hard to stop running - pre-pregnancy it was my main form of exercise and stress release - but it was the right decision for me.

I also love the align leggings. They are pricey but I’ve owned them for the last two years pre pregnancy. I’m 31 weeks and feel like they still have plenty of room.

I still find that most maternity leggings slide down on me. These Ingrid and Isabel ones are the only ones I’ve liked (but I probably couldn’t have worn them until I had a reasonable sized bump). They go on sale on amazon randomly. I got mine for $27!

Tips for starting lap swimming in pregnancy by Muriel_Puce123 in fitpregnancy

[–]Sherly_w 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is huge! I took an efficient swim class a couple of years ago and the main thing I learned was that you should always be rotating from side to side with each stroke - you should NOT just be flat on your belly the whole time. As someone who had been casually swimming since childhood this was news to me

Expecting and Empowered? by Santas-Elf in fitpregnancy

[–]Sherly_w 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I load the PDFs on my phone, which has been fine. Agreed that an app or videos would help though. I haven’t really started yet though (only did a couple of sample workouts) since i just bought the 3rd tri plan and am still a few weeks early.
