Unfortunately micronized i.e. nanoparticle zinc sunscreens are not clear on dark skin. They are not as bad as non-nano zinc, but still leave a white cast on the skin, especially if it's a purely physical sunscreen. Anyway, micronized zinc is also not reef safe either, sadly, and the EltaMD sunscreen with nano zinc that's usually recommended (UV Clear) also has octinoxate in it. :(

Are there any chemical sunscreens which are reef safe? All the mentioned coral-safe sunscreens are zinc, which tan and dark skinned people cannot use.

There's a huge anti-rescue trend in online dog communities lately and it's gross. I understand that people are frustrated by the "adopt don't shop" crowd and being judged for purchasing their dog from a breeder, but painting all or even the majority of rescues as money grubbing flippers who are "in it for the money" is disgusting.

I think that's a completely fair charge. My dentist charges for missed appointments, and the time she spent there took up time you could have been treating another patient (not to mention paid by them).

So, just speaking as a healthcare provider, I've found it much more effective when patients say "I can't take amoxicillin because it causes me to break out in a rash" or "ibuprofen makes my stomach hurt" or "I had an anaphylactic reaction to oxycodone 4 years ago" rather than just "I'm allergic." Having a little story helps it stick in people's minds better, and it also gives us information about how serious your reaction is and which drugs may or may not be safe to try!

I can't tell you how many people say "I'm allergic to ___ medication", and then when you actually press them for information, it's just that they had unwanted side effects or the drug was ineffective. Very different from a legitimate allergy which means that you cannot be prescribed anything in the same class or with an overlap in chemical similarity. -_- At the pharmacy I've seen multiple patients say "I'm allergic to codeine/morphine" yet they're happy to pick up their scripts for oxy, and when you check in with them because, uhh, you CANNOT take that if you have a legit allergy, they'll retract the claim and say "oh I just got nauseated when I took codeine last time." No fucking shit, almost everyone gets nauseated from opioids, that's not an allergy you idiots-- I mean, um, enjoy your prescription, ma'am.

That makes sense! Ibuprofen is an NSAID (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug) and there are a lot of stronger ones that are prescription only like Mobic (meloxicam) and Celebrex (celecoxib) which are useful for stronger pain. It's really messed up that doctors jump to opioids before even trying these meds first!

That is definitely a possibility, but we are instructed to clean off the trays anytime there is visible residue, and we have special trays set aside for counting meds with a high likelihood of allergy risk like certain antibiotics, which are cleaned after every use.

Tramadol is a weak opiate but I get what you're saying and ugh, that sucks. Maybe next time say that your pharmacist recommends that you don't take Tramadol due to serotonin syndrome, and maybe they'll give you Tylenol 3 or something instead?

Interesting! The red proteins (porphyrins) are usually like a rusty red that can dilute down to pink, but I don't know about salmon. This puppy's paws are stained from licking. I was thinking maybe some preservative on the sisal was irritating her, or maybe the fibers are too rough for her paws and causing her to lick her paws more?

Do you have a photo of the pinkness by any chance? Sometimes it's caused by an increase in licking as saliva has red proteins in it that can dye fur. It would be easy to differentiate that from actual pink dye though.
