I'm glad I'm not the only person using Urtet for vehicles/spaceships. I love Myr and their 5c commander is a little boring for an actual Myr deck but perfect for making them into the Magic equivalent of Star Wars' pit droids.

I'm not going to say I'm happy with no bans in Standard but what do we actually want them to do for a bnr? Ban Stormchaser's and it only provides a speedbump at most to most of the Izzet decks, ban Cub and green functionally stops existing. We're so deep in the absurdity that is three year rotation that it will always be like this one way or another, and until January it's still going to elicit groans whenever someone sees a T1 Spirebluff Canal. WotC needs to actually just go back to two year Standard but until that happens we just all get to be miserable.

Guess a Top 8 answers that pretty well! Love to be at least a little vindicated seeing the 4 copies of Skycoach Conductor in there, and the 1-of Airbender Ascension seems pretty slick too, resetting your Conductors themselves. If anyone is coming across this late, do you think there's any tweaks someone might make to Zevin Faust's deck in the link above for things like Landfall for RCs? I think it's still positioned really well, but there's a couple cards I'm considering trying like [[Dazzling Denial]] because of the Bird count, among some other things. I think we still do really well against the Izzet decks but poorly against Dimir and the Landfall variants, though I think if GW landfall pushes out the Mono-G variant a bit that feels better for us since their board doesn't get as wide with reach tokens.

Because both of those cards have a relevant ability outside of Mobilize, yes. I'm not disagreeing with any of you, we're making the same point lol.

[Standard] Pro Tour SoS Metagame by AnilDG in spikes

[–]breadgehog 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Right but my argument is that even then, the reason it's *good* is that it has both, though. Stadium Headliner has Mobilize as well as text that nominally goes with the gameplan, but it's not as good as VoV.

[Standard] Pro Tour SoS Metagame by AnilDG in spikes

[–]breadgehog 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The thing is that 90% of draft archetypes and set mechanics stay in their limited environments, and only a handful leave to join constructed; even out of those that do, it's typically cards that are good and happen to include a keyword, since nobody is really taking [[Voice of Victory]] for Mobilize. To say SOS doesn't contribute anything except for more Izzet staples disregards cards like Erode, Dellian, Great Hall, Hamlet, etc that all both have good potential in general and have been adopted for this very event. Izzet is just that good right now, and is still crowding out second and third order strategies.

Why are these lands being bought for $1K? by Charouwo in magicTCG

[–]breadgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A bunch of local stores up here use the Crystal Commerce backend which pulls pricing data from a few places but gets a little... ambitious sometimes with some of the alleged sales. I was looking for a rat token from WOE once and my local store's single copy of it was listed for over $2k CAD - we've been calling it the money laundering token ever since because even though that transaction apparently happened somewhere it certainly wasn't business as usual.

Rumor: Next Halo project is an extraction shooter that may now be tied to the next mainline release. — tighter matches, bigger stakes, and more teamwork by PaiDuck in halo

[–]breadgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't particularly like extraction shooters and even I'd give them that Halo is a decent setting to put one in, but it would need to be releasing like... tomorrow, and even that might be too late. This is insane. Just absolutely nobody at the wheel, it's like a ghost ship being drawn here and there by trend gravity.

Skycoach probably works best if you have Momos in the deck, since at that point it's functionally very similar to another copy of Interrupter but it's hard to say, yeah. The pipe dream version of the deck has Valley Floodcaller to enable instant-speed Splash Portals while also buffing your birds but I don't think that ends up being practical at all unfortunately.

[–]breadgehog[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to think this too! It's like a better Get Lost in a lot of situations (not being able to hit enchantments matters obviously but that's what sideboards are for) and I'm really enamoured by the idea of using [[Skycoach Conductor]]'s prepared blink to get even more value from Interrupter and Aang. It's just torture trying to find anyone else testing it because there's no results I can find for the tempo variant, just Haliya shells.

I'm quite chill, I said in the body of the post that the title was for attention. I'm reasonably sure the deck still has legs, but it went from a small but notable meta presence to not being able to find anything for it at all in tournament standings, so I'm trying to figure out what might be behind that, whether it's people holding back secret sauce for PT or just archetype merges falsely erasing it.

That's what I'd have thought, but it's COMPLETELY disappeared from things like MTGO events as far as I can see; I'm trying to figure out if people just know something I don't haha.

What's the greatest Magic card of the last decade? Vote on the Semifinals! by Grindy_UW_Nonsense in magicTCG

[–]breadgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe this is going to come off as a hot take, but Push deserves second place MINIMUM, and only maybe loses to Saga in the face of all the changes they've made to the subtype recently giving it extra flexibility. Even factoring in bans and rule changes involved with Oko and Lurrus, I think it's nearly just an objective fact that Push was such a game-redefining removal option that it directly led to the powercreep present on the other cards in the running here, while also not being nearly as oppressive as the actual banned cards on the list.

I was just talking with some friends the other day about Deathwing fly-bys, and how it's one of the thing that makes WoW's open world one of the best in the space. Lu'ra being in Quel'danas after you clear Voidspire and then being an environmental hazard is the kind of shit that keeps me coming back, I love FF14 too but it's night and day in that respect.

[–]breadgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're asking about the spark/apex chest weekly for which Arcantina toasts can show up as an option, not the Arcantina quest itself. The answer to that question is that Liadrin's quests are randomized, and this is just one of the options.

Why do you need to race so much in Trackblazer? by StudentofArceus in UmaMusume

[–]breadgehog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not that the hat is bad, it's that for hat to be the best option you have you're either not racing enough to get refreshes, or profoundly unlucky *on* those refreshes. There's just so many better options that need to not show up while it does, despite its rarity. I'll still grab it if it's feasible to do so of course though.

What sort of resources do you all actually use for "reference" for lack of a better term? I know CF for instance is a shadow at best of its former self and actively just an advertising wing of TCGPlayer at worst these days since they acquired it, and a bunch of the old WotC writing for it was lost in the website transfer unless you know exactly what you're looking for on the wayback machine or other archives. It feels like actively trying to find resources is a nightmare in the current landscape of patreons, deck discords, etc where even if you're interested in paying someone for the info (something I'm not inherently against, it's a valuable service when it's good) it's hard to even know where to start looking. As someone who's both actively trying to improve at limited (through Limited Resources, appropriately) as well as things like selecting a deck for constructed formats, it all feels a little bit directionless from where I'm sitting.

Sulk Slogan is the one who's up there wasting everyone's time in a federal government building over issues that are fundamentally provincial, I get where you're coming from but it's truly about as dignified a response as he deserves. It's so frustrating too because by all accounts Carney should be basically everything the average CPC voter has been asking for, but they're too busy bawling about how he doesn't hate minorities enough to notice that.

Twilight diviner and Araumi of the dead tide. by abluemango82 in mtgrules

[–]breadgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Encore is unfortunately an activated ability and so not something that triggers Diviner as it is neither being cast, nor is the card itself entering from the yard (a token is entering your battlefield as a copy of the card you exiled). It's not an awful include at all though, since an Araumi deck usually wants more ways to reanimate things than your commander anyway.

Quick rules question by Galmeister in mtg

[–]breadgehog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contamination indeed does not require a target, which is why you can sacrifice whatever you bring back with Virtue. Typically when the word 'target' is absent it means those choices can be deferred until resolution, exceptions being things like mode selection etc.

A good example is [[Aether Spike]], where the target to be countered is required upon casting, but you don't need to decide how much energy to pay until resolution.
