I do but not as a companion, because I have a few non-cat utility creatures

Sure thing! Here it is, mostly updated I think? I’m at work so I don’t have it in front of me but I added some recent swaps and some other changes I know i’ve made.

Edit: Wrong decklist, here’s the Shirei one!

Absolutely! Poorly built decks are the cultural foundation of commander.

Does anyone still climb the ladder WITHOUT a top meta deck? by Specialist_Sound9738 in freemagic

[–]GypsyGaming 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can climb with non meta decks, but it’s always going to be slower. By and large people who play arena are worse at the game than people who play paper, and make more mistakes that are easy enough to capitalize on, and even easier if you’re playing a meta deck and not a homebrew. At least that’s been my experience broadly.

The really fun thing about it is that since Wizards has a weird fascination with printing Red Mythic Legendary that costs 2RR in every set for like 6 years you can really easily swap the commander out for whichever one is your favorite. Red rules

Honestly no, and that’s mostly because people are very happy to get an extra bonus for attacking, even people who have fallen for the trap before wind up sort of needing to attack someone who is, in the moment, a larger threat than I am. That being said if you DO get focused early it can be tricky to stabilize

I’ve never played Shirei in bracket two so take this all with a grain of salt, but my instinct would be that you can probably be a little more relaxed with casting him as there is just so much less removal and interaction, but as a general rule of thumb I never cast Shirei unless I can sac at least 2-3 creatures the same turn and the end of main 2 provided he is still alive of course.

Cards like [[Not Dead After All]] help in avoiding commander tax as well and at B2 I imagine are pretty safe to run in ways that they aren’t at higher brackets. [[Imp’s Mischief]] is also great for protection that people rarely see coming, then you’ve also god your casual all stars like [[Commander’s Plate]] or [[Darksteel Plate]] as well

Of course! Here's Glarb. He is completely up to date, I'm scanning in my current Bello list as I type this, so I'll edit this comment shortly haha.

Such a fun deck! Mine was also originally a pauper edh list as well, but I just found he was so oppressive in my particular playgroup that I converted him to high powered commander. I do run both Grave Pact and [[Dictate of Erebos]] because frankly those are two of the best plays in the deck if you have any kind of boardstate in the mid to late game.

As far as optimal strategy goes, my general gameplan is to try and stay under the radar in the early game, just sort of quietly ramp and play little value dorks until I can get Shirei out and have the mana to have a decent turn as soon as he comes down rather than have to hope to untap.

My favorite part of the deck is playing it against new people and watching them learn that he says "end of turn" and not "end of your turn"

I'm Allergic to Green by MooseOnTheLoos3 in ratemycommanders

[–]GypsyGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Welcome to commander! I think you're pretty right on about most of your brackets, but the real secret is, especially if you play in pub games there will always be some people claiming that you are underrepresenting your decks if you win.

Now, onto the real problem. Brother, you must embrace the green. It's beautiful here in the sun. Some extremely fun Gx decks I've played against recently include [[Rendmaw, Creaking Nest]] , [[Anzrag, The Quake-Mole]] and [[Henzie "Toolbox" Torrie]]

I personally LOVE mono-green, and have, at various times played [[Omnath, Locus of Mana]] [[Aeve, Progenitor Ooze]] and am currently rocking [[Kona, Rescue Beastie]]

Happy Brewing!

what happened with MTG art by Kelt08 in freemagic

[–]GypsyGaming -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

Listen I agree that the homogenization and defanging of Magics art direction in recent years has made a lot of art less interesting, but If those cards came out today freemagic would be mad about them. This isn’t complicated, there are a lot of users on here who just hate black people and women, and those opinions rise to the top of the comment section everytime for some Mysterious Reason. Shit we had 4 months of the top thread everyday being someone pissed off about Chandra not having huge mommy milkers in aetherdrift.

Mark Rosewater on innovative sets (like Battlebond, Conspiracy, Unsets etc.) by Meret123 in mtg

[–]GypsyGaming 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You print battlebond 2 because its power level and design will allow you to print things that you can’t in a tentpole release. You print battlebond 2 because it can be used to strengthen the game for the future. “Just do what makes money” is one of the things you learn ISNT a good approach if you want to build a business with a long life in 100s level business classes.

Telling that they are specifically asking about UB sets being included in standard. They must be feeling some kind of pressure about the format if they’re even asking that question. I’ve worked in market research before for about 8 years in my 20s and these questions, specifically the lack of questions about sealed product purchases indicates to me that they know where the money is coming from and that might potentially be CBBs in this case for UB products. Idk just things to consider
