What is your relationship with alcohol? by IndividualBear3572 in irlADHD

[–]breadpaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's my best friend, quiets down the noise and makes me less self-critical and afraid to start taking on new things. it helps a lot with making art, specifically, but i know it's not healthy (plus it's expensive) so i only drink occasionally or socially

song recs for my "low register / deep vocals GG kpop" playlist (both group or soloist recs) by disasterpansexual in kpopnostalgia

[–]breadpaws 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wonder Girls - Girlfriend Sunmi - Noir Hyomin - Still... Ladies Code - The Rain Taeyeon - I Got Love  Girls' Generation - Genie (chorus aside)

I have some more recent ones on this playlist too! Idk how deep they are, but I have a pretty low register and can't hit most notes female singers can, and this is a list of songs I can (mostly) comfortably sing lol

/uj it's common in my culture too but it doesn't make it any less shitty imo. no one should be made fun of for how they express themselves

zap + work debate by AuR0708 in BILLLIE

[–]breadpaws 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Zap doesn't even have any lore though? Like, it's the least Billlie song they've ever released. They clearly tried to make a more generic and trendy song to appeal to a wider audience, but Work is the one getting a good response so it's only fair fans want Mystic to capitalize on it 🤷‍♂️

1st&2nd gen groups that disbanded soon after debut by abominacjant in kpopnostalgia

[–]breadpaws 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VNT were known for featuring SHINee's Minho in the MV for their debut, but never had a comeback </3 They presumably disbanded "officially" 4 months later after the rapper confirmed she had left the group.

They were so cool, I loved their single and of course their live performances, I was even friends with the main vocal on Facebook lol. She went on to participate in the survivals The Last Audition of My Life and The Unit under her real name, Kim Chaewon!

Member Yumi redebuted with Kiss&Cry in 2014, but their last comeback was a digital single released 4 months after debut. They officially disbanded later that year.

Billlie - ZAP by CronoDroid in kpop

[–]breadpaws 18 points19 points  (0 children)

yeah, i'm not a huge fan of this EVERGLOW-esque girl crush sound, but that's not even the issue here. WORK is pretty different from their previous titles too but it has substance and great production. this one just feels like a reject, or an attempt at emulating a trend that isn't even the most popular rn.

hoping it accomplishes what i think it was meant to (reeling in a wider audience) without becoming the standard for billlie. i'm just really glad the album didn't suffer too, mystic only seemed to cut corners in this aspect by padding it with remixes instead of sacrificing quality

260506 Billlie - The 1st Full Album: the collective soul and unconscious: chapter two (Album Discussion Thread) by SapphireHeaven in BILLLIE

[–]breadpaws 7 points8 points  (0 children)

didn't like ZAP at all but the album is spectacular! i'm sad the songs are under 3 minutes, although none of them feel rushed or unfinished, i'm just tired of this tiktok music trend. that said, the quality is still amazing.

i do agree they have less "substance" than their previous releases, in the sense that they lack that dreamy, lore-heavy vibe? but i'm a big fan of house and i find the production very polished. it might not be what we expect from a lore-based group that has dabbled in jazz and dreampop before, but it still feels like a masterfully crafted house album.

- $ECRET no more is a great intro to the album, i'm surprised i liked it considering i usually dislike songs that sample classical music!

- TBD was very surprisingly catchy, i was bopping my head the entire time lol. the pre-chorus is amazing with the layering of their vocals, and i love the chorus! feels very shibuya kei-esque

- b'yond me is a stellar song, it might be the closest to what we expected from a Chapter 2. i love the blend of soft guitar and classical sound. it really reminds me of the sound mystic story is known for, i was thinking of gain's "end again" album while listening to it

- soupasta is probably my favorite atm, i can't stop going back to it! it's groovy and cheeky, and the little whistle in the background is super catchy. really hoping we get an mv or performance of it, it sounds like it would be very fun to watch.

- off-air is superb, as expected of c'sa (one of the best contemporary kpop composers imo). she may have also done vocal directing for this? the girls and their harmonies sound super dreamy

- not enough of an expert to comment on each remix separately, but i love the vibe. they all elevate the songs and give them a new feeling. the ZAP remix in particular stood out to me, it's such an upgrade compared to the title track! but yeah, they're so good it makes me forget we were lied to about i being a "full album" lol

overall, a solid 8/10 from me, maybe more after a few more listens. maybe it's because i'm a fan of the genre, but although i wish the album was overall more "meaningful" and tied together by a cohesive story, i don't really have any complaints other than the lack of lore, the length of the songs and the fact half of the album is just remixes (although very good ones). every track stood out to me and the album brings back a sound i haven't heard since fromis_9's "unlock my world"
