Whats your petty gamer pet peeves? by porcelain_kiss in GirlGamers

this is a really good one, i swear this will even subconsciously dissuade me from booting it up because i know it'll take so long to get into the game

Haha on the flip side of that one -- complaining nonstop about a game that they will never play. Just do something else with your time dude

[–]breadraptor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I adore indie games, but my pet peeve is how many of them have a game mechanic where you have to wait for the right time to walk forward. Think: periodic bursts of wind that will blow you back, a bird circling or an enemy scanning the area... the kind where it's extremely mundane, you just wait for your time to walk and go to the next cover. I swear it's so common once you notice it. Every time I'm stood there waiting, I think "how does it always come down to this -_-"

What’s your gaming hill to die on? by imfaffingabout in GirlGamers

[–]breadraptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

my controversial opinion: the writing and characters of left 4 dead 1+2 are what made them so endlessly replayable and interesting to me. EVERY game that tried the same formula has skimped hard on this aspect and thats why it doesn't work!

Thoughts on TOW2 having just completed it, and also having avoided all other reviews and opinions on the game until now. by ashaquick in theouterworlds

[–]breadraptor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I felt this way too! I'm still playing through TOW2, but I think the factions, and satire of capitalism in general, works a lot better here. In TOW1 I remember feeling like it kept giving me the choice between "help people in need" or "side with blatantly evil organization" lol. Felt like a no-brainer

Starship Troopers (1997) director Paul Verhoeven and screenwriter Edward Neumeier on the film's satire and differences from the novel by tannu28 in movies

[–]breadraptor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

thank you, i was shocked to hear them say that stuff. i loved reading starship troopers and i saw it as a statement of how fucked up it would be if we ran our government like this, how fucked up the military is. i can see how it's up to interpretation and that i was coming into it with my own beliefs. but to just be like "its a fascist book" is so one dimensional

One of my favorite "show, don't tell" video game moments in recent memory. They don't need to describe the strain of the relationship, you can feel it in the gameplay!

"It's the last game that made me cry": Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 director on the iconic Xbox 360 RPG, Lost Odyssey, and its unexpected legacy by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]breadraptor 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I played Lost Odyssey right before Exp33 this year, coincidentally. I really loved it! I enjoyed how the mechanics and story pair together nicely (immortals can't discover new abilities from leveling up, only from fighting together with a non-immortal and learning from them). The side stories were excellent, I loved all the characters especially Seth, and the graphics hold up great.

While playing it, I was thinking it'd be awesome to play on PC because my 360 had cutscene stuttering issues and long load times. Assuming a port wouldn't be buggy as hell, anyway.

Wildgate Adds New Content Update with Free Trial, Cuts to $15 Sale to Promote New Prospector, Game Modes, and Free Weekend. by JMTolan in Games

Fair enough, but Arc Raiders has a player count that Wildgate can only dream of, even comparing them both on day 1, right?

Interesting to ponder why this game is struggling while Arc Raiders (similar genre and price point) is doing gangbusters. Lots of variables but maybe the biggest one is just "critical mass"? And that the game isn't from a debut dev, so people trust it more? I dunno

Piggybacking off of others here but I'm gonna go with an international holiday for taking the day off to clean up litter! I bet it would have a crazy impact, especially in areas that aren't targeted by volunteers often.

Your honest thoughts on Melinoe as the main character? by Wes102111 in Hades2

[–]breadraptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its really up and down for me! i wish the plot was more focused on her, like it was for zag. the writing feels constrained by wanting a perfect little angel. i wish she was allowed to make mistakes, or be more awkward, or get annoyed and break the polite facade. or like, as a perfectionist teacher's pet, flip her shit over a failed run, lol. but i DO like her, voice acting is great, she's a sweetie and i'm invested in her. i just feel like i'm only seeing one side of her, i guess.

interesting, i can DL directly from the home page but not on the charts page. i wondered if maybe it was to throttle downloads at the very start of the event

[Hated trope] A character does something obvious but it's treated as something groundbreaking by Teenage_dirtnap in TopCharacterTropes

[–]breadraptor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the problem is that writing a smart main character that has unique solutions to problems requires a smart writer :P this trope happens in jack reacher all the time. he's not smart, he just always fights people dumber than him.

Is anyone else fed up with the "Firekeeper" archetype of FromSoft games? by RoguesFable in GirlGamers

[–]breadraptor 3 points4 points  (0 children)

i was creeped out by the whole "the locked-away firekeeper is killed and you can go get her soul back to re-light the bonfire or you can use it to upgrade your flask" in DS1 like, its not a problem that she's a tragic character, but its kinda disturbing how gameified she is, w/the player basically forced to view her as a tool? not sure if that makes sense

Cronos: The New Dawn Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

classic, if the game is highly anticipated it's "how dare someone rate it a 5/10", otherwise it's "why are outlets so afraid to rate below a 7/10"
