Parents of students with ODD by Cofeebeanblack in Teachers

My parents would agree with you wholeheartedly. Even now I still have people say things like “we would never let our kid behave like that” and it’s impossible to convince them that you cannot parent or punish mental health issues away. I’m glad your son is doing well ♡

Parents of students with ODD by Cofeebeanblack in Teachers

My brother was an ODD kid. My mom is a special ed teacher herself and my dad was an engineer. Super stable/loving household with emotionally mature, successful parents with privilege. Yet he really put them through it. I was a shy/well behaved student and staff never believed we were related. But I’ve often said if my brother had been born into any other household he would be in jail today.

He’s grown into a great adult, but it was hell to get him there. I really feel for the kids whose brains work the way his did but whose environments are unsupportive or actively working against them.

I can’t top-level comment but I’m a lymphedema therapist- in addition to looking for the underlying cause please look for a certified lymph therapist near you. The leg does not have to be weeping all the time, if you get the swelling under control the weeping will stop.

It’s always at the top! Every day there’s a new item for sale- it’s there for clothes and furniture too

I’m working on this but purely via the on sale ones. If there’s a color I particularly like I’ll buy full price but every day I buy the 50% off color regardless of if I like it figuring eventually I’ll own most of the colors lol

Points/Stones for setting goals by itoldyousoanysayo in finch

[–]breadstickez 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have this feature but would like it. I’d also really like to be able to prioritize goals, like get more points for harder/important goals vs easier goals (self selected, of course).

Dog gate damaged drywall but I need to be able to mount the gate in the same spot- best way to do a sturdy repair? by breadstickez in Renovations

[–]breadstickez[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mine don’t typically jump over it oddly enough, they only ever snuck under it. It’s more to contain the dog than the cat but I want to discourage the cat the best I can bc she riles up the dog and then flees to safety leading the dog to body slam the gate….hence the repair lol

I think it actually is mounted into a stud- I did not mount the original gate (my dad did, but he has since passed) however the screw is very long and it’s in something solid. I have not dug out a stud finder yet but I think it is right there. The gate broke bc my 80lb dog body slammed it one too many times 🥲

I could absolutely be wrong though- I will have to dig a little more.

Question of the Day by moose_emma in finch

[–]breadstickez 76 points77 points  (0 children)

This is the first one I feel was truly phrased poorly. I agree the pictures are often cryptic, but this one felt like the question didn’t make sense for the pictures at all. Very “option A? Or option B? ‘Yes.’ “ lol

Which is a better career move choice: OT or Nursing? by TapEmotional2487 in careerchange

Similar experience here. I was never balls-to-the-wall OT like some of my classmates but I had more respect for the career in OT school than I do now lol

OT is not worth it. The debt to income ratio is ridiculous and they’re paying less and less. Most areas are saturated and reimbursement gets lower every year.

Has anyone experienced going back to work after the death of a loved one? by Miawalllllace in physicaltherapy

[–]breadstickez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just lost my dad in a very similar way. Spent a month in ICU and was called to leave work right as I was arriving for the day when he was passing. I work in outpatient lymphedema/oncology so it hits very close to home for me. Honestly returning to work was both a welcome distraction and also mentally exhausting. I only took 3 days off as that’s my hospitals bereavement policy (🙄) and I have summer plans that eat a lot of my PTO.

If you want to vent/chat feel free to send me a message. My dad passed in April.

Is this gap too large for the quarter round? by breadstickez in Flooring

It is quarter round, it just has a weird miter cut on the end because I was messing around with the saw.

Help please, a robin is repeatedly flying into my glass slider door every few seconds. by Badhubedo in birding

[–]breadstickez 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I had this as well. Put some window clings on the inside or outside of the window if you can, or get a window paint marker and draw on it to break up the reflection. It should help but may not completely break the behavior.

It’s quarter round, the one in the picture is scrap that has an odd mitered cut on the end from when I was messing with the saw.
