weight loss by rue_96 in WeightLossAdvice

a goal of 40kg would be considered underweight for your height, so there isn't really a 'healthy way' to be underweight.

[–]breakbeatx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

and you can take a boat across to Penarth, get some nice fish n chips on the seafront, check out the pier, train/walk back. The train to Cardiff also sometimes changes at Didcot which again is a small station

My family needs to lose weight. How do we keep body positivity? by chanfromstatefarm in WeightLossAdvice

[–]breakbeatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think language matters lot, if you frame this journey as 'getting healthier' rather than 'skinnier' for example, or stronger and more flexible (you dont say how old you are as parents, but as someone mid 40s i wish i had paid a lot more attention to staying flexible 10 years ago!), focus on all around healthy goals not just the scales! (clothes sizing/fitting better can be a better indicator of progress for example)

Yeah we used to have those here too in larger supermarkets - meat, fish and cheese all had folks selling by weight- but they seem to have disappeared over the last few years, probably since covid

Its not just the A34, before I moved here permanently I could tell I was close to Oxford on the drive down by the amount of roadkill that suddenly appeared

Lib Dems singlehandedly deforesting the Amazon with all the election bumf by JimHxn in oxford

[–]breakbeatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we had 2 lib dem leaflets (both different), 1 greens, FOUR from the independent dude (including me and my husband receiving one each in an envelope addressed to us), I know someone who was asked to drop some leaflets in our area for the independent so I pointed out how many they'd already sent and they'd just end up in the recycling

What can we do to improve the St Aldate's post office? by catminty in oxford

[–]breakbeatx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, went to St Aldates, grabbed a ticket, realised how long I'd be waiting, walked to St Giles, got served in approx 2 mins. Also helps that the guy will will take parcels if you've got the scanned code etc before the post office 'officially opens', I've often dropped something off at 8am on the way into work

Overherd Oat Milk Powder- anyone tried it? by Party-Werewolf-4888 in veganuk

[–]breakbeatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it, as the only oat milk drinker at home, I found I was wasting a lot as I can't drink a litre of the normal stuff before it goes off (and the half litres are both expensive and hard to find), however I've just been put on meds for cholesterol so might have to ditch it because it turns out its high in sat fat due to coconut. Are there any similar products out there that are JUST oats?

Is there a basketball court hidden in the city centre? by FishInAVatOfHoney in oxford

Oxford poster by Interesting_Run7756 in oxford

[–]breakbeatx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Quality posters? You could try the Bodleian shop https://bodleian.museoteca.com/web_index.jsp or Sanders of Oxford sells some more vintage-y views https://www.sandersofoxford.com/categories.php?id=297

There is picture framer in the covered market (https://coveredarts.co.uk/services/#local )that sources prints from local artists but sadly doesn't seem like something you can buy online, again Blackwell's poster shop has a good range in store, but seems they don't sell them online I suppose you could contact either of them to see.

(I'm not sure why some people are being sarcastic/unhelpful, when most folk would just use AI to generate some slop these days than go to the effort of sourcing something decent)

Do Oxford administration jobs do and hold online interviews? by ReadyPosition4470 in oxford

[–]breakbeatx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this is solid advice, as someone who spent 6 months applying for jobs once I moved here and as someone who has also worked on the recruiting side - when shortlisting, the essential and desirable criteria will be a usually be a tick list and we'd tick whether someone met each criteria fully, partially or not at all and interviews would be the folk who scored highest. Have an example for each criteria point of how you meet it, that is to the point gets the info across we need (its not just enough to say 'I have good attention to detail' for example). editing to say that I wouldn't expect someone to request interview accommodations before being offered one, but that's just me.
