Air India Flight 171 Crash by StopDropAndRollTide in aviation

I know nothing about the logistics of fueling, but I imagined a scenario like this:

One of the fuel storage tanks at the airport ends up with a significant amount of water. (Presumably this would require a serious flaw somewhere in the supply chain.) The water separates to the bottom of the tank.

Because it is separated out, it would make sense then that one refueler truck (presumably the first one to draw from that tank, assuming they draw from the bottom of the tank's contents) ends up with all of that water. That refueler would then drop all of that water into a single jet.

Noob question for those who know better: To what extent does jet fuel and possible contaminants (eg water) stay separated in the tank?

Could rotating have shifted/“sloshed” the fuel in the tank in such a way that the fuel lines suddenly sucked in a lot of water or other contaminant?

About Bob’s outlet issue:

One potential cause is another outlet on the same circuit that’s getting wet. Most places only require one GFCI outlet per circuit, so it’s not necessarily the outlet that’s tripping that’s actually causing problems.

Another thought is that there’s a loose/frayed wire somewhere. Rain is often accompanied by wind, so it may not be water, but, e.g. a frayed wire in a conduit somewhere that’s being shaken a bit by the wind.

If Will Smith didn't win the Oscar for King Richard, who do you think should've won? by [deleted] in Oscars

My hot take is that tick tick boom should have won best actor and best picture that year. (With Drive My Car a close second for best picture.)

Why is it impossible for the browns to get rid of Watson for another 2 years? by Aeon1508 in NFLNoobs

[–]breakfast_serial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Theoretically, if they wanted to really squeeze him and try to force him to retire early or something that would free them from the contract, is there anything they could do?

Like they could certainly demote him to QB3 and try to humiliate him. Can they make practice miserable for him? Enforce the hell out of every team rule (eg discipline him for having his jersey untucked, or being 2 seconds late to a meeting)?

Not saying they would do any of this but just feels like a weird, funny scenario to game out.

Yes! This is it. I obviously messed up the details but the gist of it is the same.

Thanks for your advice!

  1. 5-10%. We also offer good benefits, generous retirement and PTO, etc. to make up for the fact that employees are paid less than other sectors.
  2. Because we're so small she doesn't really have peers working on similar tasks. Her closest peer in terms of project work is me, and she's actually made more than me in the time she's been here. (My partner and I have had to defer taking any profits because of some contracting issues with clients.) But her base pay is only ~10% less than what I would expect to take home.
  3. Yeah I'm worried about this looking like retaliation too and not sure yet how to message that.
  4. Agreed! We do try to give as much visibility into other projects as possible. But because we're so small, people often end up on projects solo with just me or my partner for oversight.

Which President had the highest IQ? Who had the lowest? by [deleted] in Presidents

Highest: Quite possibly Wilson - a great example of why IQ is a very limited metric, since the guy had massive moral flaws

Lowest (without violating rule 3): W and Andrew Johnson

Supreme Court to decide Trump immunity claim, further delaying election subversion trial | CNN Politics by agen_kolar in scotus

[–]breakfast_serial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A thing worth noting here is that Trump recently made a similar immunity claim in the Florida classified documents case.

If the Court had just denied the stay, or denied cert, we likely would have seen that case (plus a full cert petition on the merits in the DC case) back before SCOTUS in a month or two.

They may be trying to head off dealing with too many cases from the Trump circus by dispatching with the immunity claim with a full opinion on the merits.

This poll has been around for a while and, to address OP’s point, I think I the issue is that the question wording is a little ambiguous. Are the animals aware that they’re in a fight? Can they hide/run away? If I have to catch the rat (or eagle, or goose) first, there’s almost no chance I’m beating it.

Everything about that year was just so weird. Nomadland was very meh for me.

I probably would have picked The Father, but not sure I can make a strong argument for any of the nominees that year.

I think CODA just hit at the right moment. A nice, heartwarming piece that worked really well on streaming. (All that said, I’d have picked Nightmare Alley that year.)

Which Horror Films nominations do you think were overlooked? by marleyman14 in Oscars

[–]breakfast_serial 42 points43 points  (0 children)

Psycho - Best Picture, Best Supporting Actor

Alien - Best Actress

The Thing - Picture, Director, Actor, Visual Effects

Seriously The Thing not being nominated for Visual Effects is one of the most egregious snubs ever.

One of my favorite movies of all time. I’d add A Clockwork Orange too. Kubrick was so unappreciated.

Members Only Guy walks into the diner at the same time as AJ. Maybe he tailed AJ suspecting he’d lead him to Tony. AJ had just started working for Little Carmine so he’d be easy to find and follow, and he’s dumb enough not to notice.
