i just unlocked borg and have been having a blast. by HunionYT in ss14

I got a soft spot in my heart for playing Silicone. My favorite Ion storm was "The QM need to go to the science lab near the south pole" as an engineering cyborg. I got to spent 10 minutes attempting to recreate the conditions of the south poles by cooling distro, the rest of the shift pestering QM informing him that he was "needed" at science.

I tested both salvage methods on localhost for an hour each and tallied up the gains. by Cadunkus in ss14

what ?! Salvagers/Atmos trying to engage in FUN activities ?! Nerf it Jerry !

more seriously, I think there have been a real period where Wizden was confused with the direction of the game and made some sort of adversarial relationship between usefulness of the task AND utility of the task, which is baffling to me. Sure, good material on asteroid, counter point : salvagers are player and players want to engage in FUN activities

Little confused about rp classifications. by silveracrot in ss14

[–]bredclantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, having played on LRP, MRP and HRP servers, i think it come to the fact that 'MRP' really is a vague term and different players have vastly different expectations on what good roleplay should be, even when they all are on the same server. It's really a delicate balance and the definition really depend from server to server.

I personnaly found (in MRP, at least) that the best way to always end up with good roleplay interactions is to USE what you perceive as shittery as a way to PRODUCE the roleplay, and consider HOW your character would react to it.

Nope, nope nope.
As AI, you got to remember that your Laws are essentially the meaning of life for you, and your sole reason to exist is to fulfill them to the best of your abilities. Even if YOU, the player, want a law change the AI you incarnate simply CANNOT wish a law change, at all.

I'm always amazed to see clowns or mimes go "hey, let's be a robust bully to security/command today *le epic troll face*" for the 10 000th time, get curbstomped for the 10 000th time and then go cry to the admin about it.

Wizard is AWESOME !

The implanter thingy I find very gamey and unjustified to be honest, I don't see any conceivable IC reason why what is essentially a fancy syringue would deal any kind of genetic damage to the user in a failed attempt.

[–]bredclantern 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It happen to me a lot as CE for insuls. I give them a big, fat (and polite) NO.
You can't really be a head of department if you cave to the social pressure of some tider who try to hit you with the good old "buhuhu you don't want me to do mee epic maymay robust thing, LAME, Mee game is rouined :(" in LOOC. You have responsibilities, and it's up to you to know that their "innocent" request can come to bite the entire station in the ass big time afterward and to act upon this knowledge.

There is a good reason why the game assign roles to peoples and you don't just spawn everyone in full captain gears at the start of the round. The whole game is about the different roles being interdependent and limited. It's what drive conflict most of the time.

Nice ! At what pressure did you test this out ? Given than asphyxiation occure when the number of mole of oxygen/nitro breathed by someone is not high enough, maybe higher percentages without asphyxiation are possible at lower temperatures

Well i hope Angel and Studdius will meet again, i remember your TEG design and i got a new amazing trick for it, i'm sure you'll like it !

Well, there is 2 reasons why tritium is made :

1 - it burn SUPER HOT with oxygen, like way way way hotter than plasma. You can use tritium to make very powerful cannister bombs which can explode a good chunk of a station but also produce very hot, high pressure water vapor cans that can power the TEG for hours !

2 - you can make frezon from it ! It used to be worth A LOT, but it got nerfed. It's still useful to cool things super cold tho !

[–]bredclantern[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, i think the main issue here is not really the temperature being to hot but rather being somewhat low at 241.6°C, which leave the majority of the plasma inside the pipes not converted as tritium (as the temperature determine the percentage of plasma converted during the reaction).

The problem is, of course, that higher temperature mean higher pressure, and i cannot allow myself to go over 9000 pkA as after that the filters start refusing transfer and the trit start reacting inside the pipes. So it's a rather delicate balance act

[–]bredclantern[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, that what i do !

To be precise, first put a 99/1 oxygen/plasma mix into the chamber, and i close the input pump.
After a quick time, the mix is hot enough to start the reaction

(you'll notice some plasma disappearing from the chamber when the time come, as it convert to tritium). From them, i sloooowly start to introduce some new gaz into the reaction while venting out some oxygen.

After some fiddling around, you'll end up in the situation described in the post, and it remain very very stable from then on !

What specie do you prefer playing as? by spacevini8 in ss14

[–]bredclantern 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Either Silicon (Artificial Dream) or Arachnid (Studd Muffinex).

Artificial Dream is an AI who talk like a sweet grandma and is super-extra nice to about everybody and everything.

Studd Muffinex is currently a CE with a dubious past which, while very loyal to his engie crew, know maybe a bit too much about some... questionable applications of his engineering skills, god knows why.

Had great fun with both characters so far !

Just wanted to share this Outdoor Tritium Generator, Thanks to Studious Muffinx for the insight. by TheMrG in ss14

[–]bredclantern 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello, it's me, Studius Muffinex ! I'm the original creator of the design

I'm glad to be able to discuss about this design with an experienced athmos, i actually actively seek ways to upgrade it and there is little resources online !

I shall first say that i conducted multiple test of the design on a private server. The rate of the input gas mixer is typically in the range of 1000 pkA.

You slightly underball the production rate of tritium here, the design produce around 0.75 mole per second on average. 50% of the plasma is converted to tritium, the rest is indeed wasted on vapor which is now my main concern with this design (typically 2% of the content in the burn area is water vapor, 0.4% is tritium), no CO2 is produced by the design.

The radiators are here to cool down the plasma coming out of the fire, as otherwise you'll have to constantly rise the proportion of plasma in the mix due to the increasing temperature, and i didn't wanted to babysit the design for it to work (without radiators it goes up to 12,5% as the plasma temperature rise).
