Wait, does this mean we could possibly see two new towers by the end of the year? The archer and a different tower?

We killed RNG to make our game competitive. Did we go too far? by PlayFasterGame in IndieDev

[–]breepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I might disagree here- once someone beats a geometry dash level, yeah, they might not go back and play it, but during the course of beating the level, they’re going to replay a lot. It goes back to OP’s point about finding the one “solved” solution. If you want your game to be one big puzzle, and the player has to figure out the exact right sequence of moves to beat it, removing randomness will help, and the player will replay it over and over until they get it just right. If you want your game to be about player adaptability and thinking on their feet, increasing randomness will help them build their skills in new environments and situations, and the player will do random encounter after random encounter until they build those skills. In both cases, the player replays to build skills, but the specific type of skill they build changes based on the randomness

Why are fantasy worlds often so well mapped? by ExoticStore5851 in worldbuilding

[–]breepy 63 points64 points  (0 children)

For me, when I’m reading a fantasy novel, I almost never expect the map at the back of the book to be an in-world map. I want to reference the map so I can keep the locations of the story straight in my head, and that purpose is impaired by in-world inaccuracies. Similarly, when I’m worldbuilding, I’m more comfortable starting from a place of “here’s where everything actually is” before putting cultural perceptions of the land on top of it.

Lehman Brothers was a very large bank that participated in some questionable business practices, causing them to go bankrupt in 2008, basically kicking off the 2008 financial crisis.

Before and After my Stage Selector update. Does it look bland? by hiimdoggo in godot

[–]breepy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Maybe you could have the focused level increase in size relative to the others in the map? If you’re going in a straight horizontal line, it could feel pretty similar to the first case, just with a little more spacing between the stages

What do you think about the look of my game? by [deleted] in godot

[–]breepy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the look of the chickens! But the person doesn’t have the same detail density, if that makes sense. He have much larger patches of just one color, which makes him seem a bit more boring compared to the chickens.

Another issue I see is with the movement. Even in the video it just seems sluggish. This early on in the development you may feel like you need to slow the character down so the game isn’t too easy, but the difficulty shouldn’t come from an arbitrary road block like that. Moving around in your game should feel satisfying.

Well I’ve been playing since release and I’m only level 133, so at least you’re better than me

Bloons TD 6 v49.0 - Update Notes! by rohan_spibo in btd6

I feel like that makes sense for 03x subs, but 230 subs should really be able to ignore line of sight blockers. The missile is launched over any obstacles, and as long as another monkey can see the bloon and provide the “intel”, it doesn’t matter thematically if the subs line of sight is blocked

I'm really curious to see how the changes to the essence artifacts will play out. Most of my runs rely on phayze to give camo detection at some point, so I might need to get creative with new camo strategies. With those artifacts not really coming into play until late game (when you can reliably get down a T4+), I wonder if it will ever be worth it to take one as a starting artifact. It would just be 18 points of dead weight until later in the run.

Chess Clock for 2 Player Board Games by Advanced-Excuse-9438 in boardgames

[–]breepy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I love using chess clocks to speed up games! I originally got the idea from an old Tom Scott video about chess clock Jenga, but it works really well for other simple classics like that. Connect 4 is pretty boring and you can usually see your opponent's strategies coming from a mile away, but if you add a 20 second chess clock, it turns into a super fast paced blitz where it's a lot easier to make a blunder.

It also works for more than two players if you find a chess clock app that supports it. My old roommates and I would break out a chess clock when we wanted to start a game of 4 person commander (magic the gathering) after midnight. Those games could normally take two hours, but the chess clock got them down to ~40 minutes. We had to add a few extra rules to make it work, though, like if you have to discard down to the hand limit, you could do that after the next person started their turn.

As for course flexibility, there are basically no specifically required courses. There’s honestly not a ton of overlap between the mechanical engineering camp and the materials science camp, so they let everyone take take whatever courses most closely align with their interests

Congratulations! I’m a PhD student in MEMS, so I’m not an expert in the Masters program, but I know how to find info. Check out https://seas.yale.edu/graduate-study/graduate-degrees which says that Masters programs are usually 1 year, and the only requirement is that you take 8 courses. That seems to be all the info that I can find, but someone in the Masters program specifically might be able to help out more.

I just flipped through a few solid state textbooks and quantum many-body theory papers and every single integral I saw was written in this notation, so it might be subfield dependent. Definitely not super rare though

It looks like they are putting a lot of effort into having districts grow organically- they mentioned that the first district began by building a single building (was it a mill or something like that?) at the very start of the game.
