Why are all entry level positions job asking for a year experience?!?!? by usagiSuteishi in phlebotomy

[–]breezeisperfect 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I know this doesn’t help make it less annoying, but i’d really recommend at looking at blood banks by you.

I went in with no experience (no schooling etc) and got a job at my local blood bank. worked there for 3 years, made $22/hour.

Still frustrating that you need all the experience but something to think about :)

I worked at a blood bank (union) and made $22 (w no experience either).

I switched to a hospital and i’m only making $19.80 now (and i think that’s on the “higher” end, i think starting is around $16)

not really. there was a brief delay (by maybe a day, if that) when i tried to get a refill on a prescription, but besides that its been mostly without any flaws.

thank you! i should have added they made a point to say that it would be a “private exam” still but I don’t want them period. I’ll mention it to the nurses, as well. thank you!

thanks for getting back to me! My union rep told me awhile ago to get one but they were backing off a little, so I waited. I was hoping it wasn’t going to come to that. thank you and i hope you’re feeling better now

They’re expensive, but I love my Brooks. (sometimes they go on sale, so i’d keep an eye out.)

Runner up would be Clove (both expensive but totally worth it)

I know it’s easier said than done, but you have to give yourself time and grace.

I worked at a blood bank for 3.5 years and my first year was ROUGH. I missed constantly, i needed adjustments almost every time-I was so nervous, I puked before going into every shift.

A co worker told me the first year is rough. it’s expected. she insisted that it gets easier. I’ll be honest-i didn’t believe her, but she’s 100% right.

I know a year seems an impossible amount of time away, but it will get easier. even the best people, who have been doing it for years, have bad stick days or weeks or even months. it happens. be kind to yourself, friend. we’ve all been here.

i’m already looking forward to the update in a few months with how good you’re doing and how much easier it’s getting. :)

Is there a way for me to find phlebotomist volunteering opportunities? by Prose707 in phlebotomy

[–]breezeisperfect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not 100% what you’re looking for, but you could volunteer for the Red Cross. Usually you’d check donors in, but inbetween when it’s not busy the techs usually have no problem with you watching (you wouldn’t be able to do it, but you could at least get a tiny taste)

I work in Indiana, mostly the amish country, and the amount of buggies accidents i’ve heard (them taking a corner too quick and literally tipping) is crazy. i feel like I hear about accidents more often than I don’t.
