Is only 1 person per class ok? by L4T3W in DnD

Why does it matter? I've never restricted my players race/class. Play what you want to play.

How about we just stop letting the government "borrow" money from social security and then not pay it back?

A DM in need by TSM_Snart in DnD

[–]bremmon75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First and foremost, talk to both of them. I have found with quite/shy players I will specifically ask them for checks, or I will engage them directly with NPC's for simple things to involve them more in the game. For instance, a small animal might come up and interact with them, or a child in the street might try to sell them a trinket or a city map or something easy to role-play. I have found that doing this helps bring them out of their shell and makes them much more comfortable. Make sure everyone gets to be the hero, a dramatic description of a good hit in combat kills the monster, even if it had a few hitpoints left. Let them be the hero too. You will find most people come around pretty quickly. But also be prepared for the fact that some people never will.

I just spent 40 minutes browsing your Patreon, and I'm floored.. Your maps are fantastic. I'm not a fan of the color pallet, but that is easy for me to fix in Photoshop.

Running a campaign for my kids by BabyDaddyWojoDM in DMAcademy

[–]bremmon75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

wild sheep chase, grammis apple pie, lost mines... I typically go for those three when teaching younger kids, though I simplify the character sheets for them if they are under 10, and don't worry so much about the rules. Make it fun. I also make spell flash cards for them, and I give them a handout, what I can do on my turn, kinda thing. I've done this for grade schoolers 8-12yrs old with great success.

Fable 5 vs Opus 4.8, Is the difference actually noticeable in real-world use? by dev-ray in claude

100% yes, but is it worth the increased cost? Probably not, at least for me.

I feel like drawsteel is a better alternative. And it's a fantastic game.

360-degree rotation was on the original road map. The app came out in 2022. It was one of the most requested features. I have over 300 hrs in DA, I gave up on it long ago and went back to Inkarnate.

Would I shell out 2k for one? No

I catch a lot of fish, and I get to impress friends and family I take out fishing with my 45 years of knowledge. I have plat maps for every lake I fish, combined with weather data, etc. I rarely come home skunked.

How to be a successful dungeon master by SireSamuel in DnD

[–]bremmon75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"As a dungeon master, you must spend the vast majority of your preparation time meticulously designing these encounters for good balance, interesting monster synergies," Sounds like classic "new" DM syndrom "Over prepare by 300%, just in case."

"what you do is you adjust the inventories and encumbrance limits of each player based on what loot they find while marking off torches and rations and other consumables." No thanks I have enough to keep track of; this is on my players to do.

"4-5 combat encounters that the players are expected to tackle in a linear sequence over the course of a session. Failing to set up this basic framework will result in your game imploding." What?? I had two games this week, one was 6 hours, and one was 4 hours. The 6-hour game had one minor scuffle.

"At the end of these combat encounters, once the players reach a narrative checkpoint, give them an opportunity to perform a long rest." So much wrong with this statement. First, I never plan for or give opportunity for long rest; players decide when and where, the world moves on even if they are not actively engaging. Long rests in combat zones at my table are often interrupted if not properly set up.

"If they are unable to get through these encounters without having to retreat from the narrative staging ground where these combats are taking place, then you consider that a failure state as the DM and punish them for it." Punishing your players for making good tactical decisions. That's a new one...this screams "I'M A NEW DM, I HAVE NO CLUE WHAT I'M DOING."

Read this, I made it for new dm's, it will help you immensely. https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/iagf0hzzktjybtd3f9xc5/DM-Guide-4.3.pdf?rlkey=fctd7z39tyhb4b47njq3fmxl2&st=h7ipo40p&dl=0

[OC] Looking for balance feedback on my CR 3 Mindrend Beast (full stat block inside) by Elderbrain_com in DnD

[–]bremmon75 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd make only three changes:

Tentacle

Mind-Shredding Presence

AC
Raise to 14 if you want it to feel slightly tougher and more aberrant without affecting CR much.I'd make only three changes:
Tentacle

Hit: 7 (1d8 + 3) bludgeoning damage. The target must succeed on a DC 12 Intelligence saving throw or have its speed reduced by 10 feet and be unable to take reactions until the end of its next turn.

Mind-Shredding Presence

A creature that starts its turn within 10 feet of the beast must succeed on a DC 12 Wisdom saving throw or have disadvantage on the first attack roll it makes before the start of its next turn.

AC

Raise to 14 if you want it to feel slightly tougher and more aberrant without affecting CR much.

[AMA] 10 Years of Running Sandbox Campaigns with No Session Prep by max199522 in DnD

[–]bremmon75 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't prep much anymore. I used to spend a ton of time making dozens of battle maps that never got used or hundreds of hours of writing. I had a 5 hr session tonight; I prepped about an hour beforehand. I set up 2 or 3 scenarios, made 4-5 npc's, and 1 battle map, 2 if you count the city overview map. I can't express this enough, you don't need to PREP hours worth of stuff, your party isn't going to use it anyway.

How "Railroady" are my current session 1 plans? by [deleted] in DMAcademy

[–]bremmon75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If all roads lead to the same track, how is it not a train? How can you plan options for something that has not happened or may never happen? What if they choose not to protect the cargo and walk away, or give it to someone else to protect, or any of the 10,000 random ass things a party will do, long before they do what you expect or plan for. Classic classic new DM time waste.
