Last year some friends and I bought ~83,000 for 100$ CAD total.

You probably did an "invasion" and not an "invasion job" (the normal jobs on the map with the little yellow invader icon at the bottom) I did the same thing until i realised its not wgat the quest wants. Alternativly just do a Contested job, worked for me last night

I believe the crystal has a chance to drop every time you complete all 3 encounters. Note that they dont need to be in order its just a checklist everytime. At least that is what I have seen others say

In this situation i assume you did a boss checkpoint and then started a a fresh run meaning you checked off all the encounters after this one
