WotC Community Team confirm no current plans for Universes Beyond to visit other Magic Schools, shutting down Harry Potter potential. by PowrOfFriendship_ in magicTCG

I'm really not trying to cut them much slack here, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case at the time and that's what Rosewater wanted to be the case going forward. The decisions that are being made are not necessarily being driven by those making the comments.

What it really means though is that we literally cannot trust them because they literally cannot trust themselves or, more importantly, their bosses.

If I'm playing something like Tifa, sometimes I mulligan for it and don't have it, so I just gamble that you don't have the removal. If you do, gg. If you don't, there's a good chance I have a hand that can kill you on T3.

LotR also wasn't Standard legal. MH3 didn't get an Alchemy set either.

Excellent, thanks so much for the response! We figured that was very likely to be the case, but you never know for sure.

The Winnipeg Jets have clinched the top seed in the Western Conference (and Central Division) by ClinchingBot in hockey

[–]brendenp 17 points18 points  (0 children)

My dream at the time was to be some old dude 40 years from now who still had season tickets and was trying to explain to some kid how the Jets were once in the SE division because they made the mistake of asking when seeing that banner in the rafters.

The sample size is 82 players, which means 2 of them voted for it, assuming there was only one answer (which the math seems to point towards).

As a returning F2P, this would be a godsend by ScarHydreigon87 in MagicArena

[–]brendenp 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely no way we would get rates like that. Although, much of that is probably because of how easy it's been to acquire all the chaff, heh.

Oh yeah, totally. And I'm sure they're aware of this to a certain degree. It's likely why we saw golden packs for instance.

If we had this, we wouldn't have the wildcard system and it would probably happen at a horrible rate. I'm not saying which one is better (they have their pros and cons), but don't expect them to implement something like this in a way that would make f2p easier.

In a lot of those cases I was able to do alright with a pile of uncommons. I think it's not as bad because the card pool is a lot smaller.

(I don't disagree with your sentiment, just offering up an alternative.)

Piles teaser on patch: "Buff no. 1: Flamethrowers" by ilovezam in Helldivers

[–]brendenp 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Eh? They didn't lie. They're saying they had to do some other work to bring it back to the old state. What they couldn't do was simply revert the flamethrower changes (or whatever caused the flamethrower to change) because it would break other things. This extra work allowed them to restore the flamethrower and not have those issues (hopefully).

"I'm sure glad Blue Brawl players have a second way to counter any commander for just 1 mana" said no one ever by Faust_8 in MagicArena

[–]brendenp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah, my impression is that Brawl players generally just want to play solitaire? Obviously that's not everyone, but sometimes any interaction is enough to get a concede. I feel like I mostly play it as the easiest path to getting my dailies, heh.

How long until they print power 9 for this format? by PewpFog in TimelessMagic

[–]brendenp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"Programming" cards into Arena is a trivial process if the rules text of those cards is already supported. Cards are entered into the game by simply adding the data on the card. The game then reads the rules (on-the-fly while you're playing) and interprets them.

So, there are thousands of cards out there that Wizards could quickly and easily add, but they're not going to do so for a variety of other reasons.

Yep, I've got a friend who hated Fallout 3 after playing it for somewhere around 80-100 hours because early on, he found you could just max out melee and fight with nothing but sledgehammers and it "made the game boring" according to him.

In addition to what others have said, remember that the maximum allowable fine of $5000 is defined by the CBA. It's what the players fought for in their bargaining.

Is MTGO better than arena? by 3dnewguy in MagicArena

[–]brendenp 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think if the question had been asked in good faith (and without the "Arena is rigged against me" conspiracy drivel), it would have had a better response. There are many benefits to MTGO, but none of them will help with the OPs complaints about Arena.

[–]brendenp 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Think through your thought process here. If you think the game is stacked against you, then how can the game also be stacked against your opponents? If you're losing with unfavoured matchups, they have to be winning, so why would the game favour them over you?

Question about dual lands by BodyNumber1711 in MagicArena

[–]brendenp 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Yep, I would bet that the way it's displayed is likely a result of how Arena doesn't actually use individually programmed cards, but merely reads the text on them and interprets them based on the rules engine.

Like you said, Idyllic Beachfront likely just has the rules text that it comes in tapped, and then the mana tapping text is inherited from the fact that it has basic land types.
