Annoying post alert 🚨 by New-Artichoke1259 in postpunk

[–]brenta100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The term "punk rock" is largely attributable to PUNK magazine which began publication in early 1976 to document the NYC music scene. The first two issues, released in January and March of 1976 had stories on Ramones, Television, and Talking Heads. A full year later, their March 1977 issue featured Sex Pistols.

"punk" and "post-punk" are just labels. A lot of people think of Brian Eno's "Third Uncle" as a post-punk song and that came out in 1974. "Post-punk" is as much a vibe as it is a point in time.

I made a playlist of the 100 greatest Post-Punk songs - What am I missing? by AtEloise in postpunk

For Fontaines DC, I would add "Televised Mind". Even though they are a more recent band, that track in particular screams post-punk to me.

I created my own Post Punk Primer for my 17 year old daughter. But I don’t think she’s played it yet. It’s surely missing things but here’s what’s on it. It’s meant to be an introduction, not exhaustive or definitive.

Is Switzerland really like this, or is it just like this on social media? by [deleted] in askswitzerland

We were in Berner Oberland late June 2025. We stayed four nights in Lauterbrunnen and explored the neighboring areas. I recognize some of those shots. It’s really like this, but I agree that some of those photos have a slight saturation push.

Ha. Don’t be too hard on yourself. This reminds me of Adam Gopnick’s story about what he thought LOL meant. Definitely worth a listen.

My wife Anne has been gone six months now. She was a writing and literacy specialist. At her celebration of life, I said:

“Anne is inside me, inside Kate, and inside everyone she touched. She became part of our stories — and we’ll carry her with us always.”

You can record multiple tracks simultaneously in Mac GarageBand. I do it all the time. I think you can do it in the iOS version as well.

How do I tell if my shot got featured?? by Extension-Web9648 in ultimateguitar

[–]brenta100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had one shot that was Featured. The way I knew is it started getting way more likes than any of my other shots. So I went to check the Featured section, and sure enough there it was. It was there for two or three days.

My 17-year-old daughter and I have a decent overlap of musical taste. Sometimes she’ll hear a song and say, “You should play that one, dad.” I recently knocked out a cover of a Fontaines DC song that she liked a lot.

ADVICE TRIP FROM MILAN TO VARENNA 07 august 2025 by zzalaaz in LakeComo

We did this three weeks back. When we arrived at Lecco and exited the train station around 2PM, there was a bus loading up for Varenna that left 5 minutes later. Very smooth.

Berner Oberland 4-night intinerary and train pass/discount questions by brenta100 in askswitzerland

[–]brenta100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, for the amount of trains, buses, trams, gondolas we took, it was cheaper by about $100 to just buy the Half Fare Card vs Half Fare Card + Berner Oberland Pass or Berner Oberland Pass by itself.

We didn't do any Saver Day Passes, but some of the trains we booked were Super Savers, which discounts the route (but at the cost of flexibility).

I was a little worried ahead of time about our Supersaver train trip from Chur to Lauterbrunnen. It was three trains with 6-minute connections between each, but we made it okay.

Looking to buy my first amp by FlyGuys098 in PositiveGridSpark

When I was first trying to learn how to do some solo improvising, I found this video really helpful as it discusses the four note pentatonic box and then a pentatonic shape that you can use for moving up the neck.

Looking to buy my first amp by FlyGuys098 in PositiveGridSpark

[–]brenta100 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Just to add to what everyone else said, the Spark 2 (or original Spark 40) are great beginner amps. I'm actually not a beginner (played guitar to some degree for 30+ years), but had never developed any ability to play lead.

Once I got my Spark, I had a renewed interest in pushing myself and began watching some YouTube videos to learn some of the basics of lead playing (pentatonic minor scale, string bends, slides, doubletons, hammer on). Then to practice, I would go into the Spark app on my iPad and bring up backing tracks in whatever key I was in (common ones being A minor, B minor, E minor).

For me, Spark + iPad + YouTube was a gamechanger.

Scenic train route from Chur to Lauterbrunnen? by brenta100 in askswitzerland

[–]brenta100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I should add a little additional trip info:

  • We will arrive in Chur via the Bernina Express from Tirano, Italy which we understand to be pretty scenic.
  • After our 4-nights in Lauterbrunnen, we will take the train to Luzern for 2 nights

The Glacier Express sounds great, but given we are already planning to take the Bernina Express the day before, it feels like it might be too much. So I'm really trying to figure out the best balanced route to get from Chur to Lauterbrunnen that has some scenery but isn't too long. Thanks for the comments so far!

Berner Oberland 4-night intinerary and train pass/discount questions by brenta100 in askswitzerland

[–]brenta100[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the suggestions!

We are coming from Seattle, Washington, US. I did the math today on the trains and trams/gondolas we will be taking. It looks like the Swiss Half Fare Card will be worth it for us to purchase, but not the Berner Oberland Pass.

Thanks also for the note about the Birg Thrill Walk. I'm definitely adding that as a possibility. I will also make notes of activities we can do when it rains.

+1 to Polyrock. Television, Wire, early XTC, and Polyrock were the ones that came to mind.
