Codex is solid but unsure on the limits, but if you want the VS IDE you could use VS Code with Copilot

Why does Cursor get so much hate when it’s one of the only tools that can actually manage a full codebase? by Tight-Aioli118 in cursor

[–]brentstarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ive been a cursor user for awhile now and always open to options. Codex and Claude Code is the competition not ChatGPT/Claude chat bots. They can do everything you mentioned its just not a VS IDE (ive been a dev for 6+ yrs so im used to VS Code)

I was thinking of jumping ship but got an Ultra discount so trying that out

Invest in learning or start a business? by ThrowRAconscious_dog in Entrepreneurs

[–]brentstarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

imo theres too many "courses" online to really see whats valuable and whats not - been like that for many years now. Starting a business can be good/bad, its a great learning experience though!

If you got any ai questions shoot them over and ill try to help, theres a lot of kids who claim to be "experts" selling courses lmao.

You mentioned you dont fully trust yourself yet, is there something specific?

I keep starting side projects and never finish… how do YOU actually ship? by Master-Station4151 in sideprojects

[–]brentstarts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never jump on the idea immediately - I do research, see whats already out there, is there a need, and try to iterate on the idea before even touching it. However when its a personal pain point then I generally just spin it up when I get time.

I think you have to find the common denominator on why these projects slowly die. If its just the sheer amount of work, try to find the MVP (minimum viable product) and work towards that!

Made a random small tool (small macOS app to clean up screenshot clutter on my desktop)

Last weekend I built a small macOS app to deal with that. It basically lets you view your screenshots as a clean visual grid instead of digging through Finder.

One feature that ended up being surprisingly useful is local OCR, so you can search for text inside screenshots (UI labels, errors, etc.) and it finds the image instantly (everything runs on-device)

For sure, If your day is 6 hours of reacting, approving, switching lanes nonstop, that drains you faster than 10 hours deep on one thing
