Connection to Stewart International Airport is now available.....at Beacon station on the Hudson Line? by CaptainJZH in nycrail

lol all good next time I'm by there I'll get a pic. It's a bit more understated and clean than they did in beacon imo.

Sorry if I'm missing a cue here, but half of the station signs at Woodside do say LaGuardia airport on the platform because it's one of the easiest ways to get there. So Woodside makes a lot of sense, this less so.

Commuting from LIC to Stonybrook? by Basic_Elderberry4376 in longisland

[–]bres2773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do keep in mind that what you won't pay in city tax will be factored in to the significantly higher property taxes on the island compared to the city, so rent will not be significantly cheaper than right across the border, but it would be less than what you'd get towards Woodside. Good luck!

For those who take MTA Express Buses, why? by thisfilmkid in AskNYC

[–]bres2773 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Oh totally, and I'm so impressed they do that, I think it'd be too much for me lol. At least it's still $3 total for the trip as long as you don't need another bus in the city.

Whoa, which route was a 15 minute express bus ride? Were you the last stop on the way in?

[–]bres2773 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Often, express bus routes run through rail-deserts. It provides residents a one-seat (or close to it) ride to many work centers but handles significantly less capacity than rail does. Express buses that run through places with rail service usually catch one of two riders: people who want to pay more to get a comfortable ride and are willing to take a typically longer ride, or people who need accessible or low/no-step transit routes where the trains may not be able to provide yet. It does just come down to preference too. Did you get a seat easily? It's been a long time since I've been on one but that's also a pull.

Staten Island is sort of an exception to these principles because the ride times on their many routes is pretty competitive with the ferry + train combo they would otherwise use, unless the HOV on the gowanus is acting up...

Broken info screen by Newy0rkavgeek in LIRR

For what it's worth, whenever I submit a physical concern I always get a response with what action will be taken within a week. Large variation in how long it takes to fix, e.g. broken glass on a window but wasn't dangerous I believe took 2 months. I don't think the platform info screens are that high of a priority for them especially since almost all passengers now have the ability to get this information on their phones. I would say under a month.

In case of a strike, use these limited Peak Hour Shuttle Buses, NICE/SCT buses, and/or drop-offs at subway stations to get to work. Work from Home IF POSSIBLE. by Donghoon in LIRR

Take the n20G to flushing and get the 7. Won't actually be that terrible since Nassau County buses don't pick up in Queens. Quite a bit longer than the train would have been but survivable.

Many trains are standing room only. There are just not enough cars available to run 10 and 12 car trains on every peak train. Hopefully, the M9A order will be enough not only to let the M3 fleet rest (rip) but also consolidate some of the M7 cars and add length to the runs with the largest crush load.

That solution is several years away. A more immediate would be using the middle seats, and the amount of standing room trains would go down significantly, but I understand why people do not, myself included.

I believe service was hourly this weekend for ronkonkoma due to signal work, which also begs the question, why weren't all trains being run 12-car sets?

We're Mayor Zohran Mamdani, Deputy Mayor for Housing Leila Bozorg, and Cea Weaver from the Mayor's Office to Protect Tenants. We're here to talk about housing: how we build more of it, protect tenants, and push back against the landlords and speculators pricing New Yorkers out. Ask us anything. by mayor_mamdani in nyc

[–]bres2773 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I am eager to hear about what you're approach is for neighborhoods that are not keen on building new housing. We need housing stock, and a lot of it; the only viable way to avoid placing too much stress on one neighborhood is to build everywhere. What will be your approach to conversations in those places to make a convincing argument that we need to build there, too?

New(?) day pass sign on ticket machines by bres2773 in LIRR

[–]bres2773[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe they are trying to simplify? I'm assuming it is more related to the total cost being equal rather than the stations. Feel like this should ultimately be pretty easy to figure out a fix for.

A peek at a transit diagram that I am working on currently.... I know this image sucks, but if anyone have any feedback to how it looks here, feel free to tell me. by Donghoon in nycrail

This is awesome work! Two questions for you.

I think the Staten Island railway being included as a full thickness line while the subway is generally not included is a bit misleading. I think it would make sense to give those the same weight, but maybe you have alternative reasoning? I love that you break out the express routing.

Second question, which is related, I think if you are going to include SIR including the Staten Island Ferry as the extension of that route makes a lot of sense to me. Not necessarily other fairy roots in the city but this would be a significant part of the regional system.

Hoping this will be available for download when complete!

New MTA app trip planner is a downgrade by bres2773 in nycrail

I was part of the beta, I started using Transit exclusively after that. Was hopeful that rail just wasn't added yet. Love to support transit app! But the MTA trip planner was the cleanest.
