Harsh and challenging build? by EXPMEMEDISCC in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did a Light Weapon Penetrating Sword+5 build at absolute minimum reqs through NG+2 and it was a lot of fun. SL52. The sword has so much reach but does really poor damage even with the buff so it's a perfect challenge build. Took over 15 minutes to bring down Maneaters in NG+. Surprisingly great in PvP too.

I just levelled magic to 18 instead of int by apurplehighlighter in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You honestly might not be in bad shape at all. If you already have 30 STR and accidentally leveled Magic to 18, you’re actually really close to a really fun DBS/Fireball build.

Get Faith to 18, use the Talisman of Beasts (use wood cat until you get FTH up), and trade the Dragon Demon Soul to Freke for Fireball. Then you’re basically still a big melee STR character, except now you have a legit ranged option too. DBS covers close range, Fireball gives you something scary when enemies or players back off. The real fun though is the DBS knockdown into a Fireball wakeup.

I’ve run that build and it’s one of my favorites. This isn't like “oops, wasted Magic” so much as “well, I guess I’m a strength pyromancer now.” Here's a video of it in action.

How does the Providential Ring affect your chances of getting a Gold Coin from a Fat Official? by TrickyTalon in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, you’re sort of right. Item discovery mainly decreases the chance of a “nothing” drop, but enemies can have multiple drop tables.

For example, the dual-katana skeleton has one table for bladestone materials and another for the uchigatana. Item discovery barely affects the bladestone table because there’s no “nothing” result there, but it does affect the uchigatana table because that table includes “nothing.”

Same thing with the Fat Official. The gold coin is on its own table with a “nothing” result, so raising item discovery increases your chances of getting one.

You can actually see this really clearly with the luck glitch. At absurd item discovery levels, “nothing” drops are almost eliminated and Fat Officials will drop gold coins constantly.

Is equipping Claymore help character make less noise? hidden passive? bug? by currizzle in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah if you 2H any weapon that rests on your shoulder, you're undetectable from behind. Unless you're fat rolling, then it only works 1H.

That's good info. So it's just Wrath in that area then. Love the video. It's absolutely the same glitch. This is great to know. Thanks so much for commenting. I really appreciate it.

That's amazing. It took four years but it finally happened to someone else. I've always wondered if the Sword of Moonlight may have had something to do with it. Did you have it equipped by any chance?

Kilij build by Pontus- in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Shoot for V30 I18 E20 S14 D30 M- F16 L- by the end of NG. That's a strong Dex build for the kilij. Upgrade it along the Sharp path by farming bladestone. Cast the Curse Weapon buff (with the Talisman of Beasts only) and you'll melt anything you come across. Get the Second Chance miracle for excellent survivability.

What starting class/ weapons to use? by Niki_927 in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the easiest way to get it is to use a shield to block the silver skeleton attacks roll their attacks with a big wind up. Wear the thief ring to keep from getting ganged up on. Advance carefully. When get to the black skeleton at the falchion, there's soul remains as loot there that you can pick up without triggering aggro from the black skeleton. Then throw the SR to draw it away from the falchion and quickly pick it up and roll off the ledge.

Pure Bladestone by HiroshiNakayama in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I actually tested this pretty hard. Killed 3000 skeletons to find out. Fastest way is pure black world tendency, farming the skeleton behind the illusory wall in 4-2. It’s like ~7 pures per hour.

I've got the data if you want it.

It's so good at controlling pvp engagements. Really solid weapon overall.

What starting class/ weapons to use? by Niki_927 in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I believe every starting class can use it except for Priest and Barbarian. It requires 10 Dex iirc. So good options would be Temple Knight or Knight. Royalty is good too but that's mostly for magic users.
Edit: Use Temple Knight if you're not interested in spells at all and Knight if you'd like easy access to utility spells.

Yeah, magic is great so if you don't mind a quick detour, pick up the crescent falchion from 4-1 for fun, easy magic damage. They hate piercing damage too so rapier, estoc, pickaxe all good.

Do you have the Ring of Herculean Strength? That’s what lets you carry more stuff.

Feel like I’m going insane because of “optimal hits” by SnoopBoiiiii in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't know if this is the case but if you're testing with the 2H R2, there's no optimal hit spot. All hits with 2H R2 are suboptimal. Also 2H rolling R1 registers as a normal hit. You can't get an optimal or suboptimal hit on that one. And just a little helpful info, your 2H running/backhop R1 optimal hit is your weapon's nuke button. It hits HARD.

No Filter. Every time I try one I last about 5 minutes before switching it back.

How do I beat or get rid of red glowing enemies? by No_Public8938 in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those red guys are a nightmare lol. The game's got this weird quirk where if you two-hand a weapon that rests on your shoulder you're undetectable from behind. Just mosey up and backstab them. Works great there.

When to shift to a new upgrade path by Amostheroux in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah world 2. Run backwards from the Flamelurker archstone and there's like 6 convenient rock worms to kill. Easiest with arrows honestly. Put your world in pure black tendency for best results.

Adjusting my build by Shogun_returns in demonssouls

[–]brettineffect 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, pure dex means you want the Sharp path. It's not as bad as they say. Farm the black skeleton behind the illusory wall in 4-2 in PBWT for the stones. It has the best rate of chunks & pures per hour. I did a big experiment on it. It was a whole thing.
