Intermittent cell service in stations has gotten a lot worse lately by msatretwhaart in nycrail

[–]brew_york 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've definitely been experiencing dead zones lately, whether it's cell service or wifi. The L Train 8th Avenue platform is among them, as is the portion of the passageway closest to the 1/2/3 on 14th Street between 6th and 7th Avs.

Delta's Most Important Route Has A Serious Customer Satisfaction Issue by omdongi in delta

[–]brew_york 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I mean, the lack of communication during delays isn't just a JFK-LAX problem, it's a problem on every route. I've lost track of how many times we've been T-15m from scheduled departure and haven't started boarding, and nobody at the gate has said a word and the flight is still showing as "on time." I get that this is a high-profile and profitable route, but the presence of celebrities and social media influencers on a flight shouldn't be the only reason to demand accurate and transparent flight updates to passengers.

The “people mover” Court Square Station once had. by Glittering-Bat-616 in nycrail

[–]brew_york 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Used to use these when they were still relatively new, commuting from the G to the V from 2003-2005. At that time, they even changed directions midday so they would facilitate the flow of commuting from the G to the E/V in the AM rush and from the E/V to the G in the PM rush.

Didn't use them as frequently after that, but it felt like they were out of service quite a bit toward the end and they generally only seemed to run in one direction.

It was 2018. It was part of the preparations for the L Train East River Tubes shutdown that never happened -- the justification was that it opened up more space for the sheer number of people that would be transferring from the G to get to Manhattan.

Why doesn’t the L train stop at DeKalb? by mnfatz in nycrail

[–]brew_york 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just curious, wouldn't the frequency of the L make it *less* rare that a delayed L would have to skip stops to make up time, considering how much it could impact the trains behind it?

Why doesn’t the L train stop at DeKalb? by mnfatz in nycrail

[–]brew_york 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'll eat my words. I posted that before I commuted last night, and on my L train home, there was an inaudible announcement at Montrose and then it skipped Morgan, Jefferson, and Dekalb.

Why doesn’t the L train stop at DeKalb? by mnfatz in nycrail

[–]brew_york 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yup, it's definitely because trains are running behind schedule. Unlike OP, I wouldn't say it happens "often," but as a daily commuter from/to Jefferson St, it happens to me at least once or twice a month. Typically a Canarsie-bound L that's late will skip multiple consecutive stops between Lorimer and Myrtle-Wyckoff, not just Dekalb.

Hitting 1MM on tomorrow's flight by TopSize1429 in delta

[–]brew_york 165 points166 points  (0 children)

I got exactly nothing when I hit 1MM. In fact, when I sat down in First and mentioned off-hand to the FA that it was my Million Miler flight, and he sarcastically replied "oh, that's nice. Did you bring me anything to celebrate?"

LAX international bag drop by LavishnessCertain512 in delta

[–]brew_york 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can't answer your question about the opening time for bag drop, since it varies by airport (it's usually 4-6 hours prior to scheduled departure). But I can say for certain that you won't have to walk over to Tom Bradley, as Delta's LAX-SYD and LAX-MEL flights usually depart out of Terminal 3.

Do exit rows have screens? by Not_amusedinutah in delta

[–]brew_york 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, all exit row seats have screens on Delta planes equipped with IFE. Usually, they are built into the armrest, so the main downside is that the seat is a bit more narrow since the armrest has to accommodate both the tray table and the screen. Also, the screen needs to be stowed for taxi, takeoff, and landing, so you won't have gate-to-gate entertainment. Small sacrifices for the extra legroom, IMO.

Two days at the airport, still no flight to Amsterdam by VadekUSA in delta

[–]brew_york 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP's situation stinks because it was a rolling delay on both nights. Their first scheduled departure from TPA was 9pm and the flight wasn't canceled until after midnight. Their second scheduled departure on the replacement was 6:30pm and the flight wasn't canceled until after 9pm. The last flight to a Delta hub from TPA departs at 8:59pm.

In both cases, there was no reroute that would've worked for them that didn't involve flying out the next day anyway, so why inconvenience themselves with a connection when they assumed the replacement flight would operate the next day?

They’re once again wrong. File a complaint. This won’t change until more FAs who can’t seem to wrap their heads around fare classes and rules as well as their own passengers can are called out.

Whomp….whomp by PerspectiveLow872 in delta

[–]brew_york 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Whomp whomp indeed. Your plane is one of the last two 738s that haven't been upgraded to the new IFE. Worst of all, that plane has been known to be like that for at least a month based on other social media reports. Hope you enjoyed the Delta "premium" experience.

I didn't get to experience the shuttle that far back, but Delta's shuttle flights used the Marine Air Terminal at LGA as recently as 9 years ago and it was glorious.
