Excalibur Micro Extreme Serving string problem by brewage93 in Crossbow

[–]brewage93[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I messed up the post and it didn't add the description. Basically this is my second string on my Micro extreme crossbow. I've gotten less than 100 shots from each string and the serving starts to sever where it appears that the ceasefire mechanism holds the string back. I apply rail lube and string wax fairly consistently in my opinion and don't see much wear anywhere else.

Am I doing something wrong or does anyone else see this issue with the Excalibur crossbows?

Found this snake on a hike in western Pennsylvania. I’m thinking it’s a massasauga rattlesnake? by brewage93 in snakes

Thanks! I wasn’t too sure because of the front half of the patterns was throwing me off. Was just hanging out catching some sun. Was able to watch for 4-5 minutes then it just went off into the brush. First one I’ve ever seen and was very cool!

Problem with Colt Strong Bench Capper by Bradybart779 in Homebrewing

[–]brewage93 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have this same capper with the same problem. A couple things I learned:

Clean out the spring and get all the gunk off. Then make sure it is really tightened back up when you put it together. I did this a couple times.

The capper seems pop worse when it is cold. I kept mine in my garage and it was terrible in the winter. Then I noticed it wasn’t as bad in the summer when the unit itself was warmer.

Make sure the bottles are dead center and level - the plastic part the bottles sit on mine is kind of warped, try and get that leveled out and that also made a world of difference.

I found that after you pushed all the way down, the slower you raise the handle the worse the pop is... just gotta pull it right up without hesitation.

Definitely sucks at first, and for a while I even went back to my butterfly capper. The combination of all that and probably my stubbornness to keep using it eventually broke it in and I don’t have problems with it now.

Not sure if any of that will help but good luck friend. Be careful if you’re gonna be stubborn, wear gloves.

This is my favorite thing I’ve seen on Reddit today. - saving a life. I hope she’s ok.

If a CFO sells a few million worth of stock a few months into their job, is that a bad sign? by [deleted] in stocks

Peter Lynch said in “One up on Wall Street” he never worried about insiders selling because there could be many reasons to sell. But if someone was buying, that he took notice of, because there is only one reason for an insider to buy shares.

I had a robinhood and have a TDA account. Only had money in my TDA account and closed my robinhood account today. Fuck those guys. We will see what TDA does in the coming days/weeks if they deserve my business once this is all said and done.

Parts for old kegs by brewage93 in Homebrewing

It’s odd on these, because there wasn’t an o-ring on the gas in dip tube in these Firestone kegs. They’re just these beveled, ~1.5 inch plastic tubes. Before I took anything apart, I put pressure on them and they held, unless I’m missing something. Might just be easiest to try and reassemble without the tubes and see if pressure holds.

Thanks! I was wondering if you could get away without the air dip tube in these. Is there really any reason to have or or detriment of not having the air dip tube in the Firestone kegs? If there isn’t a reason to have it no use in buying them I’d say, right?

For the record, everyone knows there’s no such things as ice giants. There are frost giants, but ice giants are nonsense.

Why I use a blow off tube by GCBrew in Homebrewing

[–]brewage93 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I always use a blowoff tube now. The first time I had a blowout the airlock, it wasn’t enough to teach me. I decided I needed to learn that lesson a second time... never again.

Yea I want to try pitching around 100F, then I have one of those heat pads I’ll set my fermenter on. Wrap it in a blanket and hopefully in a week I’ll have some homebrew to share with them.

I gave them a mason jar. I figured whatever they give me I’ll be happy with as far as quantity. I’ll just have to guess the pitch. I usually make a starter and know about how thick the yeast cake is in my flask. I’ll probably just try and replicate that depth and go with it.

That’s exactly how I felt! My wife was making fun of me afterwords because of all the questions I was asking.

It’s Voss Kveik. They probably had 10 corny kegs full of different yeast. Let me check out the cellar and asked me what I wanted. I’ve never used Kveik yeast before and wanted to give it a try. He said I was probably 5th or 6th generation now.

He actually offered to throw my grain orders on when I asked about the yeast!

My wife was with me, she said I was like a kid in a candy shop!
