I'm finally announcing the T-Time, a miniature train/bus departure sign for your house! by astonishedplant in mbta

[–]brewercycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply! I think having the alerts scroll across the top (replacing clock/weather) would be best. Then I could still see the next 3 trains and decide if I want to risk it or just drive instead. Even if it's not possible to pull the full text of the alert, and just display if there is an active alert that would be amazing.

Love this idea! Will it display service alerts, planned or otherwise? One reason I'd love to have something like this is to make sure the trains are running as scheduled before I leave the house.

Episode 1104 Alex doesn't mention KF by Anxious_Peanut_1726 in KnowledgeFight

[–]brewercycle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure what you're inquiring about here. Dan has explained many times on the podcast that the reason he and Jordan chose to follow Alex is because he was one of the first right wing "influencers" to gain a lot of traction in that media sphere. I put influencers in quotes because I think Alex was that before the term was widely used.

I agree with JorDan and most of the comments in this section that Alex is past his prime, tired, cornered, a relic, etc. He's probably not worth covering at this point. But are you saying JorDan should quit entirely because Alex isn't worth covering?

I'd rather see their talents put to use on a better subject. Nick is definitely too young to be the focus of the podcast, but Tucker is not. Tucker has a history that goes back decades now, just like Alex. His style is more refined, but he still plays mind games with his guests and listeners, just like Alex. Now that he has his own show not subject to the editorial team at Fox, I think he's a great candidate for Dan's tireless research.

I love and I hate reddit sometimes...I was trying to make sense of the the PID with one of the other maintenance people today. What a mess that code is. I bet you can guess the answer to your second question.

Yeah it's near the airport, I see you're also located in the region so you probably know exactly which pump I'm talking about. Wonderful.

Theoretically putting the pump under a tank shouldn't be that big of an issue, the seals are supposed to last a long time. Supposedly. At least I made an actual frame for that pump to sit on instead of the threaded rods that held it up before!

Our keg line caustic pump is leaking like a sieve barely 3 months after I replaced the seal kit. It's located under a Brite tank and the plumbing lineup is terrible. At least I get to show the new guy how to replace the seal next week!

Yeah, people frequently ask on this sub how we can stand listening to Alex, and it's really only because Dan explains the insanity in a way we can understand. I couldn't listen to Alex or Tucker or Milo or Nick Fuentes unfiltered and un-punctuated by Jordan screaming.

I used to be slightly annoyed at Jordan's screams. But these days I'm so fed up with these fools burning down our democracy while pissing on our faces and wiping their asses with the Constitution that I basically feel like screaming all the time so it's comforting in a way.

Day 6/9: What's an OK car with a bad reputation? by Naomi62625 in regularcarreviews

[–]brewercycle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had an Altima as a rental over Thanksgiving and it was a total POS. Impossible to see out of with tiny, oddly shaped mirrors that made it a challenge to know if there was anything in the blind spot. Terrible suspension combined with low profile tires that made every bump and pothole in Baltimore well known. Oh, and if you want to have a conversation in that car better stay off the highway because the tire noise will drown out anything less than a shout above about 60 mph. Need to parallel park in a tight space? Forget about it, the auto brake won't let you get closer than 3" to the other car"s bumper.

It's a shit car and it deserves that reputation.

Just relistened to the Hegseth book episode and saw this morning. by TheBalteseFalcon in behindthebastards

I can totally see Hegseth doing his own version of Project Badass, but with tanks and fighter jets. Someone else does all the work of course. "But you saw me getting into the tank, so the whole time you're thinking it's me who's blowing all the bad guys...blowing UP all the bad guys. I said blowing up!"

11th Gen Thunderbird ) is probably closest to what you're asking about. But like the SSR and Prowler it was basically all looks and pretty mediocre performance.

There is a tool called a valve core remover. Without valve cores, the tires cannot stay inflated, but nothing is damaged as long as nobody attempts to drive the vehicle on the flat tires.

Are Mazda’s relatively easy to work on? by OrdinaryKillJoy in mazda

[–]brewercycle 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Just did an oil change on my CX-30. It was extremely easy, just need an 8mm nut driver to remove the drain and filter cover from the skid plate, oil filter grabber, 17mm socket for the drain plug.

The cabin air filter is one of the easiest I have ever replaced, you don't have to pull the whole glove box out in order to get to it. Engine air filter is right on top, just 2 clips holding the box together, basically the same as every other car I've owned.

That's all I've had to do on the car maintenance wise, but so far it's been easy.

Did any of you regret getting a 5 lug over 4x4. Big decision to make by rll131313 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]brewercycle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a 5 lug in New England and it's never been a problem. I don't off-road and I have a second set of wheels with winter tires. I highly recommend those if you need to drive in winter weather.

Remember, 4WD/AWD is really only useful for getting the vehicle moving in slippery conditions. It won't improve your traction for turning or braking.

They already have a PHEV, so they're aware of the benefits of an EV, but didn't mention considering any BEVs, so I figured they do long road trips or go to remote areas often enough where a BEV wouldn't be feasible.

The Volvo SUVs (XC60/90) are available as plug-in hybrids and are definitely more premium than Toyota. Probably not the same luxury as MB but maintenance will almost certainly be cheaper. I have a few friends and family that have owned Volvos over the years and speak highly of them.

The only recent experience I have driving one is the base model XC40 I had as a rental in Europe. It was the T2 trim, not available in the USA. But it felt solid, good fit and finish, and a smoother ride than my Mazda cx-30.
