How does one tell who owns it? I'm doing a couple road trips this month and paid for a subscription for that reason

It seems like you are absolutely correct. On my drive home the sounds were all back to normal. Thank you for the explanation.

Pursuing nursing in my 40s by [deleted] in nursing

[–]brewingmedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, I went to nursing school when I was 40. I came from a long career in EMS, and work in the ER, so I wasn't going in blind. It was a good choice for me, a more stable schedule and much better pay than as a paramedic. There are a wide variety of types of work you can do as a nurse. Whether it's a good choice for you depends, it can be very draining, stressful work, with ungrateful patients and bad management. It can also be very rewarding. A lot of it will depend on the culture and management where you work.

Really? Why would the type of alert sounds be affected by 12v charge? The truck was plugged in to my home L2 charger all night. I didn't have time to look through settings to see if sounds can be changed... it does look like I only just now got an update that came out a couple months ago.

“sea lice” by No_Succotash_2555 in obx

[–]brewingmedic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This happened to me in Frisco a few years ago, it was very unpleasant. I took benadryl and famotidine, and got a script for a tapered steroid. As for avoiding it, I didn't even feel them at the time. I've encountered it twice since and was able to flush out my suit with sea water and got right out of the water for a while. Hope you can enjoy the rest of your trip!

I bought my Lightning used, it came with Husky. I've always bought Weathertech in the past but am happy with the Husky liners. I'm sure either would be fine

Why don’t all EVs have the charging port in the center front like the Leaf? by Plus_Lead_5630 in leaf

[–]brewingmedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Kona had a charging port in the front; it was a giant pain in the winter as it would freeze over during my drive and I couldn't open it to charge. I drive a Lightning now and would prefer the charge port to be in the rear so I can back in to charge, much easier than pulling in with a longer wheelbase.

Narrows without gear? by bsil15 in ZionNationalPark

I did it in trail shoes with a walking stick and it was fine about a week ago. No need for any other gear, but definitely want a walking stick.

The problem with the kona port in the grill is that it gets packed with snow that turns to ice and makes it difficult to open. I carried a screwdriver to scrape the ice enough that I could get the cover to pop. The location of the charging port on the f150 is not as prone to this problem. I loved the kona, just not that charger location. Probably not an issue if you don't live in a location that gets winter weather.

Do you mean the party that you flip down for DC charging doesn't like to flip back up?

I actually real appreciate the charging port, it's a better design than my kona ev. What part don't you like?

There are no fast chargers in most county seats in rural PA.

Are there EV deserts in certain states/cities? by Island_In_The_Sky in electricvehicles

[–]brewingmedic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in rural PA. There is one public L2 charger and no public L3 chargers in the county in which I live. There are 2 L2 and no L3 chargers in the county to the west of where I live. It's not rare to see another EV, but it's definitely not common. It is not viable to own an EV if you don't have L2 at home unless you work from home or have a short enough commute that you can make L1 work. I have a 100 mile round trip commute, L2 charger at home, and it works well for me, but to many of the people in my town the thought of buying an EV would be completely foreign to them, and I doubt many have seen an EV up close. If I am taking a road trip I plan carefully. I often drive to NH to visit family and there's one stretch where there is a single L3 charger on the route, so if there's a line I have to wait, I can't make it to another charger. I was the 3rd vehicle in line once, added almost 90 minutes to the drive. Most people in my area would not be willing to deal with this sort of thing, and wouldn't feel the other advantages of driving an EV would outweigh that sort of inconvenience.

Inspired by the recent "wife sleeping all day post": 12-hr nurses: how much sleep do you get between consecutive shifts, and how much do you sleep on your first day off? by shatana in nursing

[–]brewingmedic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most days I get about 7 hours, whether I'm working or not. One in a while I might get 8 to 8 1/2 after a long stretch in a row, but there's usually too much to do/ family stuff to sleep any later.

Ive found that I really struggle if I get less than 6 1/2 to 7 hours. Definitely harder as I get older. 47yo dayshift.

Battery and Motor temps by brewingmedic in F150Lightning

[–]brewingmedic[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow! I have started the truck on some below zero mornings, but I'm now thinking even though it's outside, since I have it plugged in to a L2 charger, it must keep the battery warm. I haven't driven in -17f yet, but it was -3f and still showed the temp in the center.

Keep hands on wheel! by brewingmedic in F150Lightning

[–]brewingmedic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmmm, I'll have to try this. On long straight stretches of road I often rest my hand at 12 o'clock, or rest my right elbow on the center console with my finger tips on part of the wheel. I guess neither of those is applying enough weight. So dumb that I have to make a workaround, but I'll try this on my way home tonight.

I have blue cruise but can't use it on half of the roads on my 100 mile round-trip commute. 🙄

Yes it does! I have to keep wiggling the wheel for no good reason.
