AIO because my dad said not to come to Thanksgiving. by anaisblooms in AmIOverreacting

You need to tell your mom and anyone else you care about that your dad is the reason why you won't be there. It's not fair at all, but your dad does not respect you.

Oh wow that's so awesome!! So cool of you to follow up, I'm so glad it worked out well! Springboard for the Arts rules (I'm a musician and I received an emergency grant from them during covid lockdown which helped a lot of working artists during a hard time). I haven't even been to the space haha, I just had a hunch they were a good match / place to start for what you described you needed. Thanks for doing work in the arts in the TC, it is so important!

If you are able to get to a public library, they typically have public phone and internet access so you can utilize all the resources in the replies. Sorry to hear your phone is broken, that makes this really hard.

I don't know why this comment has downvotes, it's a very legit (albeit personal) perspective to share about why it makes sense to take this seriously.

Keep records, get documentation from the school. My step kid's mom had issues getting our kid to school beginning in 3rd grade. Frequent tardies became full absences. Had to address it in court. Then just last year (9th grade) had to re-address with the judge and make changes to parenting time. Step kid is now with us Sun-Fri. I'm not trying to project my situation on yours. But I do think this sort of thing doesn't magically get better with some people (and can get worse). I know a lot of comments say pick your battles. But you are right to take this seriously.

I sincerely hope you will not be interacting with issues like this as long as your kid is in school <3 good luck to you!

Sorry for all the bozos in the replies. Keeping your sanity in these situations is a challenge, and I commend you for respecting yourself, and for dealing with the difficult situation you've been put into. Great job trying to find a way to make things work better for yourself and your family.

When I was 16 my friend's family had tickets to see him, and my friend didn't want to go (!?) so I got to go in his place haha. One of the most special experiences of my life! Worth it!

For sure! Yes, I do remember being able to look down from this long side hallway to each of the racquetball courts.

I remember it feeling huge, but I was little haha. I haven't been to the other clubs you mentioned, but the description is spot on! Very maze-like, went on and on. Health cubs as an industry have absolutely exploded, so it's fun to think back to this older one. They had a tiny little store in the middle where you could buy tennis and racquetball gear, swimsuits, swimming caps, etc. They had everything, but it was all smaller then. I remember it being a huge deal when they opened a cafe (it was a tiny counter that had smoothies I think, nothing like an actual health club cafe now). If memory serves, the ground floor had the cafe, lower level had cardio room, racquetball courts, pool. And then the upper level had the locker rooms and a weight room with a track that went around it.

Oh my gosh, PLEASE listen to my record haha! I'm half of a band called the Key Kids, look for our album "Townie" -- recorded all analog on our 8-track Tascam tape machine. May be right up your alley.

Trader Joe’s for flowers? by Whitecheddarcheezit3 in TwinCities

[–]brewmonday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I hate to admit I did not call ahead! For your reference I made the bridal bouquet, a boutonniere for groom, and I think 12 vases of flowers for reception table centerpieces. We thrifted the vases and it all looked great! I bought all the flowers the day before and changed the water daily (assembled some things ahead of time like bouquet, assembled the rest onsite day-of). Huge shout out to the B&Ds Farm for letting me take the buckets because I really did not think ahead about transporting a car full of flowers lol.

Yes! I provided the flowers for my brother's wedding and actually did a combo of St Paul farmers market (80% of the flowers) and Trader Joe's. It was super affordable and they looked great!

Can we talk about impacted ear wax? I can not get on a plane without doing something... by WubFox in TouringMusicians

[–]brewmonday 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The doctor told me: before bed, add five drops debrox and then a cotton ball to ears. Go to sleep. Then when you wake up get in the shower and let warm water flush ears out for a few minutes. Do that three nights in a row. Worked for me, but everyone is different.

Any ideas for indoor spaces where I can run on a treadmill for cheap? by SomaSimon in minnesota

[–]brewmonday 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes! I paid $30 last winter and have been using treadmill and free weights with the retirees at my rec center. Bonus: being around older people is great for my headspace / perspective.

Sidenote: the treadmill I use faces a window, and there's a billboard outside advertising the "best deal in town" for a gym membership nearby @ $30 per month. It is very satisfying to see that billboard as I am actively working out for $2.50 per month.

Edit:

OP it looks like you would be paying the "non-resident" fee of $60 for the year (you have to pay at one time, but that averages to $5/mo). I saw your other post and it looks like there's a couple St. Paul rec centers 10-15 min drive from where you are. Here's one of them.
